Scott Ambush, low profile anchorman of Spyro Gyra. An excellent bassist, compares to any of the high flying stars of jazzbass today. Also, great bassguitar, picked or slapped, fine sound. I love this video.
Just when you think you've heard it all, you think you know all the top musicians worth knowing, you find something like this, and feel a bit embarrassed and a bit humbled. I watched, and totally enjoyed that. So, so tight.....
Man I love Scott bass playing. to me he is one of the funkiest bass players around. and bass players mac. should respect him as such. great vid. Peace!
You can't get much funkier than that! What an homage to James Brown and Prince. Two of the baddest funk masters ever!!! Spyro Gyra, keep the jazz and the funk alive!!!
Scott Ambush! Wow. He's the best. I remember a coworker of mine years ago telling me about him. I caught him playing a few times in at the Tacoma Station in Maryland/DC area. He was very good even back then!
He's from Frederick MD, a town very close to me , people that I've talked to that know him say he's a great guy...that always makes me like a player more.
I believe each of their early recordings had more than one drummer in session. Eli Konikoff eventually became their full-time drummer. Over the years, they'd have Richie Morales, Joel Rosenblatt, Ludwig Afonso and the one featured here, Bonny Bonaparte. I wish the audio were better. I had to turn my volume way up to hear anything.
Man,...Scott Ambush is a Victor Wooten and Marcus Miller wrapped up in (1) bassist. He can execute what they both have in their playing. This dude is "BADD"! His custom made basses even sound like him. He's talented (period). :) My hat's off to a bassist like this. S. M. O. KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!! You go SCOTT!!!!!! Hit them where it hurts,..."BRUDDAH"! Thank you, Coop' Bass "4" Life :)
Sadly this band is kinda Underated, god they have one of the best Rhythm in This world. I hate music nowadays, band like spyro gyra can't get much gig these days sadly.
Caught these guys at the Blue Note in the village about 2 weeks ago. They kill. I was exhilarated and exhausted by the end of the set. Scott Outlaw chops time into tiny, tiny little pieces.
COOP YOU SAID A MOUTHFUL THIS KAT HAS TO BE ONE OF THE HARDEST BASSIST IVE EVER HEARD. WOULD LOVE TO SHAKE HIS HAND, THEN TRADE IT FOR MINE..DUDE IS TOP SHELF...
great band........great sax player MR BILL........................ lol scottt.oooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh, MONSTERRRRRRRR!!!!! if someone have the link to download this concert.... pleaseeeeeee.......... LOL thnx
Bonny B is every bit as good as Carter Beauford, Thierry Arpino, Vinnie C. and Harvey mason. To say he doesn't come close to the talent of Beauford is wrong. Did you know that Carter was beaten out of the Leno gig by Marvin "Smitty"Smith? Not putting any of them down as they are ALL a damn sight better than me!
Been following these musicians for 4 decades and they still amaze!
i love this sax plaayer............. it's him that made me change my way of listener of his instrument.... really great guy!!!!!!!!!!

I think Bonny had a stroke if I remember correctly. He was fantastic!
