- The 2021 Kia K5 is all new for this year, shedding its previous name, Optima, for a globally-universal nameplate. Complimenting an aggressively styled interior and exterior is a 12-speaker Bose audio system, found in the upper-level EX and GT trims. With a larger touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and decent sound, it's certainly an upgrade over the lower models. However, it is worth noting that the lower specs with the smaller screen support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while this system does not. Strange decision on Kia's part.
Bose does not provide maximum wattage for this radio.

The Harmon Kardon sound system in the 2021 Kia Soul Turbo sounds way better than the bose unit they put in the K5
That’s so interesting, Harmon Kardon Generally makes excellent sound systems, I have the Harman Kardon system in my 2020 mini Cooper S 2 door, however I had a 2021 Volvo S 60 and the HK was lacking, also as a loaner I had a 2021 BMW M440 I with the HK and it wasn’t as good as the mini, and that car was $74,000…😅 i’m looking to get a Kia K5 GT with the Bose. Previously I had a Bose in my Audi A6 in the early 2000s and it actually sounded great, but then of course there wasn’t a ton of competition and I didn’t have a ton to compare it to, I can always upgrade the amp and or sub if I dislike the Bose.

Definitely not a fan of Kia’s switch to Bose. The previous Harmon Kardon systems they used were all way better.
Once you get the Bose up high it’s actually really good it just doesn’t thump until you turn it up loud
So crazy to hear that this car speaker’s aren’t that good. I really was thinking bout getting the wolf grey gt line. I got a Kia Soul 2018 rn and my speakers sound amazing. Doesn’t fade are nothing.

Standard 6 speaker in my friends gt-line was Definitely lacking low end.Even with bass levels and vol. Maxed out But about 2 weeks later I heard it again and the bass was actually punchy. I've heard some speakers/tweeters need to be broken in before proper sound can be heard. If u sense a change later on can u please lmk? Or an update vid would be nice too lol.

Are the 6 speaker system in the lower trim bad enough that its a must to upgrade to the Bose system?
I have the GT Line with the 6 speakers and I cannot wait to upgrade the speakers lol. It’s not terrible but definitely not good by any means.

But the way I see it, a system would have to be the best sounding, best operating, and have all inputs. I'd say the GX 460 Mark Levinson is the closest there is, but if they could improve the infotainment operation, it'd be a 10. Same with GLS 580, infotainment is kinda a pain to use.

Are there any sedans that have the "punch" in the sound system like in the SUVs?
That's a good question. Off the top of my head, Volvos. But typically having a subwoofer mounted in the trunk helps.

@@harshs538 It was good, but it focused a bit more on crisp sound in the front of the cabin rather than powerful bass. It's definitely good though.
Only think I can think of is getting new speakers. Or do what I did, and install 2 12 inch subs and trust me, that will have the whole car bumpin😂. I also have the k5 gt-line
I was really impressed with the Bose Sound System in a ‘21 Altima SL. That thing had some thump. It sounded great.
So final verdict...Camry , Altima , Sonata , K5...which one has the best system in terms of depth and crisp?
Sonata hands down I have the limited ultimate and the Bose audio in that can’t be beat IMO

Is it better than the previous Optima’s Harman Kardon sound system?
I have a 2016 optima with the 9 speaker Harmon Kardon stereo and I much prefer the harmonics of it over the bose system in the k5. If you are able to test them out I would, but I definitely like Harmon Kardon better. The biggest downfall of it however, is bass can get distorted at times and create a minuscule popping noise. It rarely happens, but it does. It just may be my car however
No you’re right, I have a 2020 Kia Optima Ex with the HK 10 speaker system and it does make the popping noice but it’s not obnoxious to the point where you get annoyed. It’s only with bass intensive songs and depends where you have the bass settings at. It sounds better than the Bose system imo and has good bass mids and highs etc.
Just traded in my 2019 Optima SXL with the HK system. Now have a 2023 K5 GT with GT1 package. The Bose sounds clearer but the bass was better with the HK system. The bass in my optima was set to a 5/10 and the K5 i have set to 9/10. Both systems sound good in their own way. Just not the bass I was used to but I will adapt.

Yes I agree with you. The Passat has one of the best systems. I have heard dynaudio and Fender also the standrd one. All of them so much better than the systems in higher priced cars Like Lexus LS and Audi A8 and BMW Bowers and wilkins. Passat systems have better authentic quality sound.

Unfortunately Bose doesn't publish their maximum outputs.
So annoying that the lower end k5 with the 8 inch screen gets wireless CarPlay and the higher trim does not.

@@pilonator If you get the package that includes the 10” inch screen, you don’t get wireless Apple car play you have to use the usb plug. Only the 8 inch screens get it. Which is stupid

But Eh, GT still gets the Stinger N-line engine and vented seats.
I have heard from, what I consider a trustworthy source, that 10.25" screen will get it from a firmware update eventually. When? That is a different story. Kind of pissed me off too but whatever. I didnt know the 8" screen even had such sorcery until after I bought my K5 EX. I just like having options dammit! Lol.

I came across this video because I was looking up whether the Kia 12 speaker Bose system has a subwoofer. To be completely honest it sounds terrible. My fully loaded charger with beats audio had much better sound but even my friend’s low trim charger with the stock audio has better sound. The Kia sound is very poor. It is unfortunate that I’m stuck with it for the next 34 months.
Sadly have to agree. My 2015 optima had better sound. Just got the GT with GT1 package and I'm slightly disappointed. The bass doesn't seem to really be there.

I love my GT and I don't mind the system buuuuut it absolutely needs more lows or an aftermarket sub.

My thoughts after test driving this.
Did not like -
1. Bose 12 speaker centerpoint system - sound is not powerful neither has clarity(kind of muffled). Had high hopes here. What was Bose thinking? In fact, Bose did a far better job with just 9 speakers on the 2020 Altima SL and no subwoofer. Sounds way more powerful and clear.
2. Interiors do not give a finer finish feel. For example the temperature control knobs.
3. Lane keep assist was little wobbly(really need to concentrate to feel that), not sure why.
4. No chrome handle bars.
5. Acceleration could be better. Even sport mode did not help.
6. Stiff steering, almost as if a heavy spring wants to center it immediately.
7. Hard braking - Braking wasn't smooth and very sensitive.
8. Needless to say - The logo on the steering.
9.Paint job could be better,
What I liked -
1. Can activate lane keep assist even without cruise control. Should help even in non highway drives. Great feature.
2. Lane keep assist doesn’t require hands on wheels for a long time. For me it never asked. 😀👏. The dealer got me off the highway soon.
3. Rear view camera clarity.
4. Overall technology considerations. Bang for buck factor. Would make you think twice before you can let go off this vehicle when compared with rest in similar category.😀
The GT line could be a better consideration and even better the Stinger(Amazingly designed) if it has to be a KIA buy at the end of the day.
Why do you keep saying has to be a KIA buy, kia this kia that, they are a car manufacturer and they stood up and relayed their pricing to compete with the others, this isnt some cheap knockoff, japanese car manufacturers should actually take notes from these guys
