You're dead right - there is often an implied sneer to the term "entry level". What is more, you will never hear it said if you go into a dealer to look at a so-called "entry level" watch while wearing a 20K+ piece. In that case they will be full of how it is "unbelievably good value at the price-point" and how it makes a great "vacation watch", etc. But if any customer is spending 1000s on an over-priced factory mass-produced item (sorry folks, but that's what Rolex IS, when all is said and done) then they really have no business trying to make that person feel cheap...
Well, it is the entry level Rolex. But otherwise a > 5k watch is not entry level at all. Not even in the world of luxury watches. Personally I would call every mechanical watch up to around 3k entry level. This includes most watches of Seiko, several by Union Glashütte and even some by Longines, Nomos or Oris.
I have the white in 39. It's arguably a perfect watch. Forget entry level, just overall it's perfect. And the value is actually tremendous when you compare it to a submariner with the same movement.

Paul Hanson I went to a function and spoke with a guy who is a billionaire. He was wearing an Oyster Perpetual. He said he’s always wore it and didn’t like over the top watches.
Before the current Rolex price hike I considered this model and went into the city centre to look at one and try it on for size. The watch came out of the display case and the assistant handed it to me. As soon as I handled it I really just could not get my head around where they got that price tag from. It did not feel cheap just not special and didn’t look or feel better than my Seiko Saab. Fast forward a few hours and I’m looking at a Damasko in another shop and a Grand Seiko was left in a tray from a previous customer. I explained I had never been up close and personal with one before and here is the difference as soon as I handled it it shouted quality, the polish the bracelet the hands everything was way way better than the Rolex OP and what’s more it was around 2/3rds the price. In conclusion if you really have to have Rolex on the dial go ahead. But if you just want a lovely watch perhaps it does not have to have that brand name on it!
well said, bravo. proud owner of damasko and sinn here👋, while I do have couple of rolexs in possession, my sinn, damasko, seiko and many others are earning way more waist time than my rolexs😅…… might end up flipping them lol, okay beside the OP I got, that's a keeper.
Mark Playford Someone talking sense. Seiko, Damasko and Sinn are intriguing to me, but I have yet to handle any of them, with the exception of lower end Seikos. I’ve bought loads of Seikos over the years, decent build overall and I have NEVER lost money on them. My SKX007 that I have modified is built like a tank, but I must admit, the accuracy is going off a bit at the moment, though.
robert bishop Thanks Robert, then you really should both Sinn & Damasko are built like tanks both built from fantastic super hardened steel, and some technically brilliant models. Seiko Presage models are fantastic value for money on the way up to GS or even perhaps Credor.
Tom The Fish you said “I don’t get the obsession with watch size” but you’re the one who’s adamant that the 34mm is a “woman’s watch”. Are you insecure in your masculinity? Can you not afford one? 😢
Love this watch and slightly shocked it’s now discontinued... got mine in June and brilliant everyday watch. I’m not a fan of the new OP 41 colours and like the three white lume markers at 369 as stands out nicely against the rhodium.
Thank you for your content Jenni! I’m in search of my first luxury watch and don’t just want a “jewelry” piece. In my short amount of research it seems like watch makers believe women don’t prioritize quality or movement and just want something pretty. Which is definitely all good, but I’m hoping in the future they design beautiful quality watches for smaller wrists and not necessarily super feminine.
Geord Doesn't have the paraflex shock absorbers, fwiw. 39 does. To me, that does matter, plus the 39 dial+hands makes a distinctive statement I like. 36 would be my ideal size however.
Agreed. The 39mm feels more like 41mm bevause of the large dial. I wanted a 39mm explorer 1 but it just felt too big on my thin wrist. Went with the black sunburst dial 36mm op and im even more thrilled about it than the day i bought it
I agree, the proportions of the 39 don’t look right {IMO)! I purchased a 36mm 3 6 9 dial a couple of years ago. It’s my only Rolex and is an outstanding “every day / all occasions” watch
I was so excited for this channel when I saw the video about the first all steel watch from Lange. Then it seems that focus has been mostly on Rolex like almost every other watch channel...

Nothing 'entry level' about this!!!! However, it should probably more accurately be called 'the best value Rolex' without having to sell your house to buy one.
I already own 3 submariners, the OP 39 white goes well with any look in my opinion and very sleek elegant craftsmanship that no one should be sad to own as their first piece over any other Rolex watches. It’s a kind of a perfect watch that doesn’t scream attention. My collections are more of an investment that can be handed down and still retain its value.
Great video. Good, useable knowledge and advice. I picked this up in black, 34mm last year and I still absolutely love it. In the world of many over-bedazzled time pieces and kitsch, few brands still do classic models well and the OP carries that standard of timeless simplicity and quality. Thanks and keep up the good work.
This was my first high end "luxury" level watch. Have had it for 3 years now and it could easily be my only watch. Honestly, I think it beats a lot of the other rolex sports watches in looks. Only wish there was anti-reflective coating on the sapphire, you miss a lot of light play on the dial because of glare.
That's because you are a poor working class millennial Lol. I have 4 Rolex. But the real ones. Not the poor person entry level one lol It sucks to be you
Back in '97, my first entry level watch for my entry level job as a staff accountant was a Movado. I was enchanted by the utter simplicity of the dial. It was beautiful. Fast forward to 2014, I got a date just with the rose Roman dial and jubilee bracelet. Just got it serviced recently and looks brand new. In 2017, I purchased a submariner 114060. This was right before the crazy hype on SS Rolex's Now I'm setting my sights on either a GMT master II two tone root beer or the Rolex Hulk. The accountant in me says to get the Hulk due to better value retention. My sensible side says to get the root beer. The root beer is so stately looking and the color scheme is pleasing and soothing to the eyes.

My first splurge was a Sinn U1 T, I too have gone overboard at times just because I truly like Wrist Art! My collection ranges from Kickstarter watches up to Rolex Sub, Datejust (Birth Year 1965), JLC Hometime Reverso! Too many times Heart over Mind, live and learn. Yeah Right! I really liked the look of this Oyster Perpetual 39mm, the nice clean look of this piece, and that dial just looks so amazing! Thank You for this video review Jenni! Keep those videos coming!
i think i never looked for this beautiful oyster perpetual i think, i found the perfect watch... it´s perfect stilish, simple, weareble, affordable .... low profile... PERFECT and the color is stunishing.
Agree! It's my favourite feature on the Hulk. Also it does not really save that much on costs. There is no crazy materials or anything used, its just an extra stamping...
Interesting how people talk about watches and value retention, you get zero with most cars, yet we dint give it a second thought, buy what you like, enjoy it.
Well not unless you buy vintage or super cars correctly...similar really... however buy a Citroen versus an Audi or Mercedes and see what they are worth in comparison after 3 years versus the desirability and longevity?...it’s also a question of how much you are prepared to pay versus the cash you lose. Take an example of omega vs. Rolex. A Rolex is twice the price with say -10% loss on a OP that’s -$600 down, versus -30% loss on an omega = that’s -$900 down. However you spent 3k vs shelling out 6k - if you have the cash great, if you’re borrowing, a different story. ...Unless you sell the watch yourself directly, you will lose money. No matter the brand. Are you buying to sell or buying to keep and wear? However Rolex retain/ gain so many buyers due to their value retention and safe bet, overlooking many cool and interesting, possibly better watches based on that rationale. Nobody can afford to lose vast sums. Rolex likes it that way. It’s what keeps them desirable at the top of the sales pile. You can’t say the same about other iconic and better made, more expensive watch companies. You will lose money on most way more expensive watch brands, JLC, Vacheron, etc. That’s why Tudor is growing in popularity (good quality same factory, and as affordable as what Rolex were 10yrs ago) you could buy 2 Tudors for one OP. Anyway I am rambling now but you get the picture.
I wanna get the Tissot Seastar 1000 with the metallic bracelet...it’s probably an affordable watch and not a luxury but it would be the most expensive watch I ever bought. Do you have any suggestion or tip about it?
Superb video. I completely agree that the OP is a nice piece, actually one of the coolest pieces in the whole Rolex range in my opinion. Very pure and simple. Quite unisex as well. I considered buying the 36mm blue 3-6-9 but opted for a white date just instead.
The OP is one of my favourite Rolex watches. Much prefer to a Datejust without the cyclops, it’s understated and classy. 39mm is the perfect size too. It wasn’t my first Rolex as I bought mine 25 years after my first. I didn’t buy it because it was cheaper, I bought it because I really liked the design etc. It’s a shame that some would think I got this because I couldn’t afford a more expensive model.
After I get my entry level Rolex I am planning to buy an entry level private jet in a color that matches my entry level supercar. But first I am going to drink some Henri IV Dudognon Heritage Cognac Grande Champagne, my entry level drink of choice.
That’s a lot of money for a name and three hands. For that, you can get an Omega with day/date and exhibition caseback, better water resistance, more unique design

Ric Chrono Both a Damasko (DA43) and a Sinn are on the list. Damasko could even be this year! 😁
I have a couple Rolexes but that Rhodium dial has me sold. A beautiful watch!
I bought the 34mm in December and I adore it
@Tom The Fish 34 OP is not a "women's" watch 🙄
@Tom The Fish maybe if you feel the need to compensate, it is.
Tom The Fish Sorry to hear about your fragile masculinity. Wear the watch that makes you happy, no matter what size :)
ElliotDrinksWater unless we magically went back to the eighties a 34mm case makes it absolutely a women’s watch.
Tom The Fish you said “I don’t get the obsession with watch size” but you’re the one who’s adamant that the 34mm is a “woman’s watch”. Are you insecure in your masculinity? Can you not afford one? 😢
I acquired this as my first watch at 19 years old, never looked back!
It's a beautiful,simple and a must have.
You are my shero! Your passion is contagious! Landed my first OP
Love this watch and slightly shocked it’s now discontinued... got mine in June and brilliant everyday watch. I’m not a fan of the new OP 41 colours and like the three white lume markers at 369 as stands out nicely against the rhodium.
I own this watch and Jenni is correct on the size and fit. For me, I think it is the best fit modern Rolex. I like its fit better than my explorer.
"Entry level" sounds like an insult. Great review, thank you.
The 36mm version is the only watch you will ever need, the OP is Rolex at its purest
My choice too...I own a 36mm 3 6 9 blue dial. A great everyday watch for every situation.
Geord Doesn't have the paraflex shock absorbers, fwiw. 39 does. To me, that does matter, plus the 39 dial+hands makes a distinctive statement I like. 36 would be my ideal size however.
I am not a big Rolex fan, but this watch in this specific color combination is really gorgeus!
imho, the 39mm is on the big side, I much prefer the generation before this, the 36mm OP with the 3,6,9 dial.
There are still 3-6-9 36mm OP in blue colour, the champagne was also available but I think right now only on the 34mm.
That sunburst gunmetal dial... 😍⌚✨
Such an underrated Rolex. Great bang for buck too!
Just got this one and I think I’m keeping it. My first was a 36 datejust but wasn’t really feeling it. This watch is absolutely beautiful.
I was so excited for this channel when I saw the video about the first all steel watch from Lange. Then it seems that focus has been mostly on Rolex like almost every other watch channel...
Check out theWatches.TV, not much love for Rolex over there!
Chris Brown They have quite a diverse and unique content. I might have watched a few of their videos in the past. Cheers for the tip 👍
I just watched the Zenith Defy Lab video. Watchmaking heaven 👌 Too bad this escapement has not made it into their commercial product lines yet.
I love watches, I love watch channels and I love your commentary
Nothing 'entry level' about this!!!! However, it should probably more accurately be called 'the best value Rolex' without having to sell your house to buy one.
Cmon Graham we all know in the future you’ll be getting one with pocket money man 😌
@@CachCraftCach My pockets ain't deep enough, if they were an Omega of a similar cost for me over a Roly anyday.
Since when does a house cost 8k lol
@@Makendu well there are some rare ones that are auctioned
I already own 3 submariners, the OP 39 white goes well with any look in my opinion and very sleek elegant craftsmanship that no one should be sad to own as their first piece over any other Rolex watches. It’s a kind of a perfect watch that doesn’t scream attention. My collections are more of an investment that can be handed down and still retain its value.
this is the only rolex where i see good value.
That's because you are a poor working class millennial
Lol. I have 4 Rolex. But the real ones. Not the poor person entry level one lol
It sucks to be you
@@SUPERMAN-pn7dm Can't tell if you're being serious or just trying to get a rise. Either way, it's apparent it sucks more to be you than me.

This was right before the crazy hype on SS Rolex's
Now I'm setting my sights on either a GMT master II two tone root beer or the Rolex Hulk. The accountant in me says to get the Hulk due to better value retention. My sensible side says to get the root beer. The root beer is so stately looking and the color scheme is pleasing and soothing to the eyes.
I ran into the similar dilemma a year or 2 ago, I ended up with a sinn U2 and I must say I am a happy man.😉
Might as well go for a GS Snowflake at this price, if brands don’t pertain you
That’s a gorgeous watch also.
@@bassoskat better by every metric as well
@japanwatchconnection bs
i have a 34 mm olive green Rolex Oyster Perpetual , i'm a skinny guy and the watch looks fantastic
There’s a great review of that watch on TH-cam..... a guy with a drum kit.....check it out
I love my white dial OP 39. However, at this price point, I’d take my Grand Seiko snowflake or my GMT SBGM221 over the OP 39.
Just bought a Oyster Perpetual DateJust today and I love it!!!!
Beautiful. Love the color scheme on this OP.
Amazing color...And the little touches of turquoise is just amazing!...
I have been watching watch channels and following along but just came across your channel! Amazing content and style. Where the heck were you (on my feed) :-) Subscribed!
34mm for me, hate the double baton dial on the 36mm OP. And the 39mm wears way too large.
i think i never looked for this beautiful oyster perpetual i think, i found the perfect watch... it´s perfect stilish, simple, weareble, affordable .... low profile... PERFECT and the color is stunishing.
Brilliant. Can we do the Speedmaster Moonwatch?
I want that
Women can't operate chronographs.
Wow. Is their anything left to say?...
I'm partial to a watch with a date complication but this piece has tempted me in the past
No excuse for a $5000 "luxury" watch without a quick-adjust bracelet.
@@snapascrew it does not, you need a tool to adjust it.
Agree! It's my favourite feature on the Hulk. Also it does not really save that much on costs. There is no crazy materials or anything used, its just an extra stamping...
For this money you’re lucky it’s on a steel bracelet.
This guy fucks.
What a gorgeous watch. Black & blue and grape 🍇
Entry level just means "You can't possibly be satisfied with this watch. Make sure you come back and buy a more expensive one!'
I sold my 41mm Sub and purchased the OP36 instead. I’m very happy with my decision
very beautiful watch!
Anyway I am rambling now but you get the picture.
one of my favorite watches
undated
only time ...
waterproof and for all occasions
I wanna get the Tissot Seastar 1000 with the metallic bracelet...it’s probably an affordable watch and not a luxury but it would be the most expensive watch I ever bought. Do you have any suggestion or tip about it?
Its a good watch👍
Superb video. I completely agree that the OP is a nice piece, actually one of the coolest pieces in the whole Rolex range in my opinion. Very pure and simple. Quite unisex as well. I considered buying the 36mm blue 3-6-9 but opted for a white date just instead.
Paying $8000 for a $5000 watch is not the way to buy something that will "retain its value".
My dream watch :) Oyster Perpetual 39 Rhodium
Nearly went for this model but instead went for the 34mm olive green dial
I've got the same one. Beautiful dial. Orange is the perfect contrast.
My first Rolex.
Is that your husband hand-modeling some of the watches? I laughed at myself really loudly when I realized 😂😂😂
Martin Q: "Partner" not husband. S/he can be the spouse of any wo/man, and vice-versa.
@@joeskeptical4762 wife/husband is the only combo
@@vincentvdl that comment triggered me as well. Then I realized his name is Joe Skeptical and it is so PC that the intent has to be humor.
She uses basically all the macro shots and script of her husband.
Excellent content as usual! The OP is such a fantastic watch. Gotta be one of the best 3-handers out there
Myself I would look at a Grand Seiko Snowflake or an Omega Aqua Terra.
You do nice work Jenni on these watch reviews some of the best information out there.
I would rather have this than a Sub. Very low key and not that flashy. But it would have to compete with a Grand Seiko.
RCH PE I can see you’re point, but I think the fact that the price starts at 5 grand for a sports watch, it makes an excellent everyday watch.
I really like this watch. Super clean and understated. Currently this model is sold out in almost every AD.
That’s a lot of money for a name and three hands. For that, you can get an Omega with day/date and exhibition caseback, better water resistance, more unique design
Love this channel, such great reviews. I was going to buy this oyster perpetual as my first Rolex but decided to buy the dark rhodium datejust 41. However I do love the brushed oyster bracelet, I may buy the op36 with the champagne dial as a daily wearer
She calls it "entry level"
And here I am hoping I can afford it one day without selling a kidney
Then you shouldn’t even thinking about a Rolex.
Lol
thats why it says "entry Level Luxury Watch" and not just entry level
