I've been collecting colorful glass for about 15 years. It gives me something to look for when I go to thrift stores, antique stores, and garage sales. I have a lot of mine in a window and love when the morning light shines through into the room. What I finally started doing, after I also ended up with way more cobalt blue than anything else, was to always carry an updated picture with my collection. That made it easier to remember what I have and where I need to fill in.
I collected beautiful colored glass for some years and put them in my kitchen bay window. Yes, the light coming in through all that colored glass is so beautiful. I learned about and bought a lot of crackle glass that really reflects the light coming through the window - they look sparkly. It was actually this activity that brought me to vaseline glass. I had been looking for some vibrant yellow, and a store person asked me if I meant vaseline glass. So...now I have a collection of vaseline glass (yellow and green). I still have to find the perfect curio cabinet with lighting ability that I can change to black lights, which makes vaseline glass GLOW a neon green. TIP: if you are shopping for vaseline glass, always bring a black light with you so you can test the glass before you buy it.
I think we all liked thrifting with you. I took a bunch of different clear bottles and put colored water in them. Usually have them on my window in the kitchen. The sun comes in and makes colored rainbows on the wall. But I may have to try something with colored glass. I love your hair too.
Some glass pieces are flash painted on the outside, so color could be scratched off. Other colored vases the color is incorporated during manufacturing process. When I was first married I wanted colored glass on a shelf in front of my kitchen window. I had a few pieces of clear glass vases so I put food coloring in the water. It looked pretty with the sun shining on them
18 square canvases could be put together to make 3 cubes you can turn periodically to alter the pictures. Stack them in a room corner and offset them just a bit one from another so no matter where you are in the room you can see beautiful artwork.
I have collected colored glass for years. When I find a new interesting piece I replace one of my older pieces to keep the collection evolving, and pass it along as a gift. I hope this blossoms into an enjoyable hunt for years to come.
I’m 75 so I grew up with mid-century modern and my mom was on top of things and a great decorator. Seeing you pick out colored glassware, I had a flashback where everyone collected empty pretty, clear whiskey bottles and put the same food coloring in 3 or 4 bottles grouped. We had light grey wall-to-wall carpeting (a “new” thing for the early 60’s) and a black & white mid century couch and 2 neutral colored chairs. She had several sets of throw pillows to change up with the colored water (turquoise, green, blue, orange ). Try it with some of these interesting clear bottles.
Totally love cobalt blue glass and the green is also beautiful. You can never have too many baskets! I ❣️ that tin footed pot. Maybe you could put a potted plant in it. Thanks again for sharing! 💯
If you got some fairy lights that are on a timer you could light up the glass for a few hours in the evening and not have to worry about turning them off or on. The color glass display would really look beautiful ❤️
Your neck of the woods has such a bunch of great offerings available. Never saw so many good baskets in our local thrift stores. I have a variety of small glass bottles sitting on my bedroom window ledge. It's a southern exposure to catch every sun ray. Gives me joy! And we ought to have such in our homes. 😊
True, I love watching Selena of The Vintage Bombshell, Laura Caldwell and XoMacenna Vlogs has some good ones especially wih Estate Sales. Got hooked watching Selena and Laura on the Recycled Life, they went thrifting in Nebraska at the Junk Jaunt.
Hand blown glass has imperfections in it. That means the better stuff has little creases and bubbles. The cheap stuff was molded and doesn't have that.
Mind you that Depression Glass is molded, but that type of glass is more valuable as it is vintage, but it is molded, not hand blown. It should also have some minor defects from factory.
I LOVE your idea of the colored glass, it so reminds me of a store I used to love in Glen, NH. It was called the House of Color, or something like that, and had one wall of windows with all kinds of colored glass in it. The offerings were more extensive inside, of course. In the back of the store they sold thing like Bass (brand) boots, and that is where I got my first pair that lasted for years. Perhaps they should have advertised that part of the store also, they may have in been in business a lot longer than the 40+ years they were!
Lauren, it's called a candle snuffer and the cool vintage lamp is pottery. :) I love your inexpensive way to get colored glass. That look was very popular in the mid century. If you ever find true MCM glass it's pretty pricey! Love all your finds.
I have been meaning to tell you for so long…you have absolutely beautiful hair!! Your hair is so lovely! How kind of that lady to provide a compliment. Keep up the good work!😊
Add some white milk glass that would be cool in what appears to me to be an ombré effect just in glass. I love the idea it is lovely and I may jus borrow the idea as I have a love for beautiful glass. For me the hunt of finding the different styles and colors is so exciting. Of course, you could always go and buy the new junk anytime but you won’t have near as much fun or great memories finding your treasures! Happy hunting Lauren! ❤
Canterbury Cottage makes some amazing things from thrifted items as does Liz Fenwick DIY channel (when she thrifts). There are a few others out there with awesome imaginations but Liz does an incredible job at staging her remade pieces. CC has some crazy talent though & I'm blown away at her creativity!!
A few of the pieces you have picked up can be purchased at the Dollar Tree. They get in different shapes and sizes on a weekly basis and in all the colors you want. It is hit or miss though just like Goodwill.
Yes, 2 or 3 are from Dollar Tree. Usually, you can tell quality glass because it is heavier. And look at wach piece to see if you can find mold marks - if you don’t see any, it may be hand-blown glass.
That lady is correct in your hair is absolutely beautiful. You should do a short on tour hair routine. I know it's not your normal content but inquiring minds want to know how you have such silky hair. Black shelves would look cool too for a pop of color for the glass.
Just dropping a comment on what some of this is called. The “bumpy,” red vase, is hobnail. When the glass is “peeling,” it means it was flashed, painted on, then heated. Try to find actual colored glass. The lamps are ginger jars. And as others have said, that candle thing, is a snuffer. Pretty things, can’t wait to see your finished product. I love reusing things, that are already available. Sustainability is always a good idea. Now, consider bringing reusable bags, when you go thrifting. It provides a bit more protection, and less throw away plastic. I’ve even brought some old towels, rags and pillowcase, to pack my stuff in, for the ride home so I don’t chip or brake my finds.😊
Everything you got is so pretty. I have to thank you, it never occurred to me to thrift some flat bowl like crystal or cut glass as saucers for plants. That'd be so pretty. I have several and that's what I'll do. So much prettier than those old plastic things you get at the garden center. Thank you!
Hi LAUREN! I just had an idea you might enjoy. Buy some glass paints. You can mix your own subtle variations for your bottle collection. My sister paints all kinds of plain glass bottles in which to put her home made bath salts to sell.
So like I'm seeing the solid colored items mixed in to the clear colored items seasonally. Like the pumpkin and the Santa and stuff just stuck in their color section at the right time.
Regarding your mismatched lampshades, I’ve seen DIYers remove the fabric and replace with strands of beads. Then use Edison bulbs. It’s a way to bring different shapes together.
In your 4.01 in video you spotted a China cabinet. I have that exact one. I have the complete set. China, buffet, table and chairs. Bought from a friend many years ago. After using as it was for a bit of time. Eventually went white, changing hardware. Kept origin al. Still have complete set. The only thing not changed was table top. I had to show my husband. Just wow. I have seen a dresser in the past that you did, that I also have. I'm in Missouri. .
When I saw that glass collection on Pinterest oh how I wished I had started such a collection years ago - I just love that look and with 50 years of thrifting behind me I could have made it happen. I do thrift alot of glass for my "garden art glass topiaries." and I have to say that it is getting harder and harder to find colored glass in my area (N.C.) You can tell if the color is solid by looking at the bottom of the object - if the bottom is clear then the color is probably sprayed on but don't pass up a unique piece if you really love it just don't ever soak it!! Good luck collecting. Have fun!
I love thrifting! It is so fun. I love cobalt blue glassware. Maybe have glass shelves in front of a window so the glassware will be shimmering in the light when the sun shines?
I had a great time thrifting with you! You picked up a lot of great stuff! I am really loving your new venture and seeing everything come together. I think I’ll need to watch each episode again--I don’t remember how the large space was going to be divided up for various transactions etc. Anyway it is going to be fabulous-for sure! Continued success as you see your dream to fruition-
I love the items you got. Love the green lmaps. Love the blue estate vase. It is almost identical to my candy dish in red that we received when we got married. It is heavy glass thick and sturdy with the ruffle. We got married 57 years ago so I am wondering if that isn't quite old. It's beautiful! You really got a nice haul. Loved all of it. Have fun with it all! Blessings
Absolutely love the glass collection, its going to be fabulous! And really unique. The candle putter outer thingy lol..its called a snuffer 😂 i have the exact same one. Fabulous upload.
Glass will take over your life. I’m a glass fuser and have been addicted for about 20 years. You can change the look of each piece just by adding water or a tea light.
The metal thing with handles may be copper or brass. Get a bottle of Bar Keepers Friend and try to clean a spot on the bottom to check. The glass is beautiful!

So cool 🎉
Great haul! The red bumpy glass is called hob nail.
You might try hanging shelves across a window. The light passing through the glass would look like a stained glass window.
I think we all liked thrifting with you. I took a bunch of different clear bottles and put colored water in them. Usually have them on my window in the kitchen. The sun comes in and makes colored rainbows on the wall. But I may have to try something with colored glass. I love your hair too.

I collect depression glass in pink and blues
You do have beautiful hair!
Love the haul!! It's called a candle snuffer.❤
I love those canvases. Jic you didn’t know, lightly sanding, gessoing, & sanding them again makes a whole new work surface. It’s so worth it.
That estate sale cobalt blue vase is gorgeous. 🥰
Yes, I would take a photo & run it trough Google images - it might be worth something!
I sell glass. None of them are that valuable but they do sell good and quick. @@PJwithheart
I too love colored glass!
I have always loved colored glass pieces. You picked up some beauties here, I'm a bit envious. You never fail to brighten my day.
candle snuffer. Lovely glass wear and pretty things. clever idea about the cut glass 'dish' as a saucer under a plant.
I had a colored glass collection for years, so pretty, bright, and happy. But, as I got old, dusting and cleaning it got old too 😅
18 square canvases could be put together to make 3 cubes you can turn periodically to alter the pictures. Stack them in a room corner and offset them just a bit one from another so no matter where you are in the room you can see beautiful artwork.
I love how your mind works - very 3-D, mathematic, & creative❣️ Cool idea❣️
Thank you that's kind of you to say.@@trixie9777
Love the colored glass idea! I’d say you got a pretty good start. 😃
I have collected colored glass for years. When I find a new interesting piece I replace one of my older pieces to keep the collection evolving, and pass it along as a gift. I hope this blossoms into an enjoyable hunt for years to come.
Love your idea of the colored glass !

Loving the idea of rainbow colored glass wear collage! You got some good ones so far...
Lauren I really enjoyed this version of "Thrift with me". Very nice haul, you found some amazing items, thank you for sharing.
😍
In the first part I really liked the pink vase.
Use the basket and metal patina plant pot holder for staging any rustic pieces of furniture.
Lauren you would be so good at flipping thrifted items! Easier than bureaus & such. People LOVE thrifting videos!!

Yes, love the go-pro and yes you do have very beautiful hair. Thanks for taking us thrifting ❤
Loveee those green lamps
These thrifting trips were so soothing. It's like thrifting ASMR. 😊😊
Wash all your glass in warm soapy water. Rinse then dry with a cotton dish towel. They will gleam beautifully.

Omg! Bass used to be a big fave of mine. Had a few pair of shoes and a handbag. Thanks for the memory!

I really enjoyed this video, which makes a pleasant addition to your furniture flips.
The 2 green bowls you picked up are sun flowers. They are part of a salad bowl set. I have a full set.
I have been meaning to tell you for so long…you have absolutely beautiful hair!! Your hair is so lovely! How kind of that lady to provide a compliment. Keep up the good work!😊
I believe the single green gold lamp is ginger jar in shape. Great haul!
That's what I was thinking too.

This was so much fun to watch. The old metal piece with the handles is so cool. You could put an artificial plant in it.
Or a real plant.
@@jadea.2694 I just thought fake because there’s no way to drain it.
Or a potted plant inside that you can take out when watering@@vickyb9918
I love the rainbow glass, here in England I always see blue glass, but I shall now look out for other colours ❤
Loved the Go Pro! Great haul! So much fun seeing what you got!
You did great on your colored glass collection. Can’t wait to see u display them

You can paint lamps and shades too.
I loved the way you shared the shopping
Thanks for taking us along with you! I think you bought some unique pieces. I like the pretty colored glassware! This was a fun video!

Glassware - Fire King or Anchor. Anything Depression glassware is sturdy and beautiful
What a great cool you have started !! On a white background- ❤❤❤
Really enjoyed the go pro, and thrifting with you. Such fabulous ideas, for your items.
I love thrifting. Pretty much have decorated my home with beautiful thrifted finds.

I use mismatched ceramic saucers as drip catchers for my plants. Gives some utility to those discarded saucers as well that are a bit old and chipped.
You found some great items! Thanks for sharing with us.
Such fun ideas! Can’t wait to see what you do with punch bowls!
Your color scheme is looking like jewel tones. Go with it!!
Great place to go for staging your lovely furniture. I love the basket.
I inherited my grandmother’s turquoise Fenton glass. I put it all on a table in front of the window this summer. It’s so beautiful.
Hi LAUREN! I just had an idea you might enjoy. Buy some glass paints. You can mix your own subtle variations for your bottle collection.
My sister paints all kinds of plain glass bottles in which to put her home made bath salts to sell.
On those twin wreaths - I like how you held them up, together but one off center from the other one. They looked pretty like that!
I had a huge cobalt blue collection at one time. It was always so fun to fine unique pieces over time while antiquing/thrifting.
The lamp is a ginger jar shape!
Thrifting with you was an enjoyable trip. Thanks for taking us along.

The green fluted bowls were sometimes part of a chips and dip set.
I love the green lamps, & the metal bowl/pot, & the wine basket could be used in your air B&B put wine in it for yiur guests.
Lauren, if u find one that is clear glass and you like the shape - use alcohol ink ❤. Its easy, usually in the stationary section, super easy ❤
You have the best goodwill thrift stores! I use the old cut glass plates under my plants too. I found most of mine at estate sales.
I LIKE THE GLASS AND LAMPS AND I LOVE THAT CALDREN YOU DONOT SEE AMY OF THEM ❤
Loved this video it was really really interesting you ave a very good eye for things. Can not wait until you do another 👍
Love the colored glass!Orange is also my favorite color.

Candle snuffers are handy and make great gifts
Colored glass looks great on a wood and black metal shelf in a window. i have a Murano glass collection in front of large windows and it is stunning.
Good morning from Georgia. I just love it when you go thrifting, you find some good things
I love thrifting! It is so fun. I love cobalt blue glassware. Maybe have glass shelves in front of a window so the glassware will be shimmering in the light when the sun shines?
I loved that pink glass that you looked at earlier. I don't have pink.
It is a crystal condiment server, pickles and such….as a plant tray it is going to be gorgeous, good idea.
You got a bunch of good stuff Lauren! And yes you have beautiful hair! 🥰🥰🥰
I love you new colored glass collection! It’s going to look so pretty on display. And the set of lamps are a great find!
You can get clear glass vases and use a glass paint that you use on window or you could use food coloring and do the same thing with clear glass
I had a great time thrifting with you! You picked up a lot of great stuff! I am really loving your new venture and seeing everything come together. Put a liquor stopper in the top of the green bottle. Put your dish soap in it. I put mine in the window above my kitchen sink.
Are you going to make the shelf to go in front of the window so the sun can cast colors into the room as it shines through the glass?
The glass will look so pretty on white shelves.
Loved seeing your project develop Lauren.
Absolutely love the glass collection, its going to be fabulous! And really unique. The candle putter outer thingy lol..its called a snuffer 😂 i have the exact same one.
Fabulous upload.
Wow Lauren, you could open your own shop .... its called a candle snuffer and I really like it and I love the glass
You can touch up glass bottles paint with clear see through spray paint from Home Depot
Glass will take over your life.
I’m a glass fuser and have been addicted for about 20 years.
You can change the look of each piece just by adding water or a tea light.
The urn thing looked like Halloween to me, like you could style it as a witch’s cauldron or something like that
The metal thing with handles may be copper or brass. Get a bottle of Bar Keepers Friend and try to clean a spot on the bottom to check.
The glass is beautiful!
Oh, I'm loving the glass collection.
Love the rainbow glass idea!❤
