Sir Robert Langrishe granted the site for the Church of Ireland Church on the 25th October 1828. It was part of the lands of White’s Castle. Its measurements at the time was one rood and 26 perches. The Church was built by a loan from the Board of First Fruits, at a cost of £1,107 and 13 shillings and 10 and a quarter pence. It was consecrated on the 7th November 1829. It was accidentally burned and rebuilt in 1912. The Architect was J F Fuller.
Prior to the building of Knocktopher Church in 1828 the Old Abbey Church of Knocktopher which is opposite the Carmelite Church now in ruin, was used by the Church of Ireland for Protestant worship from the Reformation until 1828. The Church was dedicated to St David. The Parish of Knocktopher was added to St Peters Ennisnag in 1942.

I just found the listing and it costs 425,000 Euro for the place. The interior is absolutely stunning. I couldn't have imagined how well and cleverly designed the space is on the interior. Truly beautiful.
Yes, I've linked the site to view in the description box
@@SerenitySueGraveyards I hadn't noticed it there... truthfully I'm not very particularly good with computers, but I get by. Any who, thanks so much for all your travels and work. We do so love your videos.
@timothypruitt9028 You're very welcome. If I win the lotto and buy this place, I'll bring ye all over
@@SerenitySueGraveyards OH Yes please Sue. I'll swim over if I have to!! 🤣🤣🏊♀🌊xx Teresa 🇦🇺💞
Hi Sue Steve from England. Just viewed your video . There's a little village near where I live where a very old church is being lived in. I assume there is graves there. Never really thought about it till I watched your post. The family are really nice, if I win the lottery tonight I'll buy it for you both. Great video Sue.
It is sad when you find little children’s graves the parents must’ve been devastated, but the Lord took them at a time of innocence, and they’re safe and His arms. Yeah, they are truly in heaven.❤❤❤
Absolutely 💯
What I would give to own and live in a church as fast as I could move in. A dream come true.❤
@@DeborahIsaacs-nx4dw If I were to own a church I would put in a cinema organ to enjoy the acoustics. .
What a gorgeous property. I hope they find a purchaser to honor those departed. So lovely.❤❤
Me too
One ancestor of mine had 10 children and they all died between the ages of 1 and a boy aged 14. Can you imagine the sadness.
I just can't, it has to be the most pain a parent can ever feel
Bahaha!! I said the exact same thing... GV: "Who would live here"? and my reply was exactly the same.... "I would in a heartbeat!" Lovely! Just brilliant! Thanks, Sue!
@timothypruitt9028 thank you so much 💓
It is so sad to think of how many little ones passed away in days past...of course no vaccinations or antibiotics...so so many little innocents gone to heaven. And so very many grieving parents and family members
.❤💐
So sad
I love the way you two care so much for the graves and lives of children. I’m the same way, especially about my grandparents babies, my Dads brothers and sister. His sister died of Diptheria at the age of 2 in 1908, his six month old brother died from a gunshot wound to the head when his 4 year old brother pulled a shotgun from between mattresses on a bed. A neighbor had returned the shotgun loaded after borrowing it. I will never know how my Granny survived and had 8 more children.
How sad!
Ahh that is so sad 💔
Very sad about the little children who died so young 💔 I just hope whoever buys it is into history and heritage and they can keep the area looked after etc, even keep the graves maintained
If money was no object I'd buy it and get everything lovingly restored and have a ground keeper to keep everything beautiful and neat. I would let all yours and GV's subscribers stay in it whenever they wanted. Its beautiful. Thank you Sue and GV ❤
So glad you were able to get inside for us today..Church so beautiful and so much history but you couldn't pay me to live there would never sleep..❤
If I had the money and no purpose to live here...I'd move from Australia and buy it in a heartbeat!
What a beautiful place beautiful Church it's very sad to see children's Graves rest in peace little ones
Ahh the little children's graves broke my heart but I'm glad they are side by side their mammy and Daddy
Oh to have the money Sue..I would live there in a heart beat, and tend the grounds too.. thank you so much, another beautiful video with so much respect shown..
I'm not usually the nervous sort, and I'd be fine running a business out of the church during the daylight hours, but once the sun went down, I'm afraid I'd be hypervigilant and on the alert for every little squeak and bump that the venerable old structure might make. I'd also constantly be seeing things move out of the corner of my eye, things that would be gone once I turned to look at them. So, I don't think I could live there with any degree of comfort; I'd be mentally on guard all the time. I've just read too many traditional old ghost stories over the years, I guess. And if the spirits didn't scare me, I'm pretty sure the heating bills would for that fine old place.
As far as I am aware when sold off for private use a church building is owned by the purchaser but they don't own the graveyard and they still have to permit access to public so they can visit their relatives
Beautiful place. Children's graves are always so sad. I don't understand how a cemetery can get sold. I would hate to be buried where my resting place could be sold.
That's true
How wonderful I'm with you Sue beautiful place to call home so much history & what an honour to keep those precious resting places safe & respected ❤️
I'd love it but at that price, I think it's too dear
Absolutely loads of churches have been bought in my area it makes me really sad some are now flats but they are mostly mosques I won’t say what I think about that! But my auntie is in a graveyard that the church has gone a long time ago and now they are talking about selling the ground and it’s really hard to find out what do they think they are going to do about the graves she was buried with her father who was buried there 90 years ago when she was one and a half and my mother just 6 months old.
Flats?mosques?omg terrible.
Sharon, That is awful, I do not agree with that
@@SerenitySueGraveyards Neither do I Sue but it’s out of our hands, unfortunately.
I watched this again. Stunning on the inside all the woodwork. I must have been sleepy last I watched this. I changed the rating. Well done on the whole video.
Thanks so much ❤️
Great place to live! Beautiful old church, and quiet neighbors 😊
I truely hope who ever buys is keeps cemetery as it is and does NOT dig it all up for home builds

Great video Sue and thank you so much for sharing, the church and the graveyard was beautiful thank you.
I'd live there if it was just me, my hubbies snores would wake the dead, lol. Looks a bit small for a family. Awesome find Sue. Thank you. Deb of Oz XXX
Deb 🤣🤣🤣 yes I think it's small inside too
To be well to do and then loose a child... my daughters 1/2 sister lost an infant and her Aunt lost a 24 year old college graduate due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. So sad to hear the young have bee lost and though we are all well to do there is nothing can be done...
That's so sad Sylvia 💔
Such a shame about those two babies 😢 One of my son’s had croup. I can just imagine back in the day and the conditions they lived in.
So very sad 💔
Its sad that the people who paid for the Church and to be buried there are up for sale😢 Whoever buys it shouldn't lock people out of the cemetery. Beautiful place❤
Hi Sue,Thank you for your and Carl's contributions to our history and your heritage. The only link I have to Irish history is my x-wife's family. Her father was a Kerry man, and her mam was from Belfast. My ancestors and family are from the Highlands of Scotland. Myself, I'm a Geordie, therefore I thank you both bonny lass/lad for what you do and achieve!! Slainte 😁❤️xx
Thanks for that ❤️
I looked at the link. All the pics. Beautiful grounds and the inside is beautiful.
So glad the gates were open for you.

Hi Sue and GV what a lovely place.
I wish you could buy it. At the moment it feels like a very lonely place. The two of you and your family would fill it with fun and laughter and make it such a happy place.Thank you for showing us another beautiful church❤

Oh this place is amazing. The inside of the church is beautiful. They did an awesome job with the space.
They did, I love how they haven't changed it too much
The is still a Baron Langrishe. I hope he gets to see this Sue…….maybe if the family still has the funds, he could buy it!
That is such a beautiful place and I feel the price is reasonable. Thank you for trying to take care of the headstone.
I would buy it if I had the money. Its beautiful . I dont even know if I could buy real estate in Ireland since I am a U.S. citizen from California. My great grandmother was Irish from county Mayo.
I'd imagine you could

The church is gorgeous!! One odd thing though is in one of the bathrooms. There's a desk next to the toilet.
Yes, if I owned it, I'd have to change a few things inside
Scarlet fever/scarlet inability is a result of a strep infection. Poor wee things. Poos parents.😢
Ahh it was so sad to see their little headstones, can't imagine the heartache
I was 12 and contracted strep from playing with the neighbors kids. Despite my begging my mom to take me to the Dr. She did NOT!!! Finally the fever was so bad she took me to the Emergency Department at the local Hospital. The strep had evolved into Scarlett Fever. I spent over a week during the Easter Spring break from school in the hospital alone by myself, with the Nuns come to check on me and a distant aunt who worked at the Hospital. Where was my mother ???
@sylviaburns2995 you know I've heard of stories children staying in hospital for illness and the parents told to stay away as it's too upsetting for the child .crazy or what, now you'd be let sleep in the room with the child. Crazy!!
I lost most of my hearing in one ear due to scarlet fever, when I was 3.
@sylviaburns2995 good grief! I am so sorry that happened to you. Thank heavens for the nuns and your aunt. I know from nursing experience that a serious strep infection can cause havoc, like kidney failure and damaged heart valves. Glad you are ok.🥰🥰
I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I've always wanted to live in a gently converted church which had it's own graveyard. I hope with all my heart that whoever buys it, will look after it and care for the Church and for the graves. The greatest respect is needed. Lovely video. Thank you both for sharing.
Couldn't agree more
If i had the money I would buy this beautiful place. Thank you, Sue 😊

Yes, not many graves here, so I'm guessing you're right about more being unmarked too

Your channel popped up in my recommended about a week ago, and I HAD to subscribe. Not only because of your content, but because of your accent. My grandma, my aunts and my great grandmother immigrated to America from Dungarven, County Waterford in the 1920s. Just hearing your voice reminds me so much of them. I could listen to them for hours, because I just love the Irish accent! Thank you for coming into my life 😊😊❤❤

I don't know why anyone would want to buy that the up.Keep on , it would be extremely expansive plus you could never relocate.all of those bodies on the property
Beautiful church and area Sue!😘

Hullo wee Sue! This one here was excellent. We have a sayin in Glasgow - It was Top Drawer! Thanks so much for this'n ☘️🌹☘️
We say that sometimes too, or top notch
Very sad and melancholy at the same time.
So true
The property is a historical listed building, benefiting from grants of up to 50% for maintenance and restoration works. In the Belfry, there is a large bronze bell (200 years old) engraved with the names of the donors and the founder, a piece of history/heritage, still in use.
Imagine that, at least they can't change the structure of the church but where does that leave the graveyard🤔
It would really be a dream to be able to live in this church. Great video!
How I'd love to live in a place like that. I'd make the graveyard into a beautiful garden, clean up all the gravestones, put flowers on all the graves and go out and say 'good morning' to all of them. I'd find out as much as I could about each person interred there and print it all off in a little leaflet that people could take. Maybe put some benches and seats there so people could come and rest and chat a while with their relatives. I'd see if I could find out if there were any other burials there, and make sure they were recognised too. Some work involved, but it would be wonderful to find out all the info. Get all the railings sorted and painted and have it as a little garden of remembrance. It wouldn't worry me if people wanted to come in to see the graves, so long as they respected it. I have some ancestors who were buried in the grounds of the village chapel in Suffolk, England, and now the village has moved and the ruins of the chapel and graveyard are in the middle of a farmers field, and visitors are not welcome. It's so sad. Last I heard, the farmer used the graveyard for storage. 🥲
No way!! That makes me so mad, how can anyone refuse you to go to visit your family.. he must not be a very nice person 😡
I could live here , love history ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Marie
The church is lovely. I hope the property goes to someone who will respect the church and grounds. I hop family members of those who are buried there will continue to be able to come and pay their respects. Is it still an active church yard? Coulp people still choose to be buried there? Thank you for showing us this beautiful place.
I'm actually not sure about that
Beautiful place...You guys should buy this place...it's perfect for you !!! ❤
If I win the lotto I will
Oh I would live there , very beautiful
Beautiful! I would definitely live there.
The third child born around 1909 to my Irish immigrant grandparents, my fathers younger sister, died at around age 3 and was buried with other little ones in the parish cemetery in an unmarked grave. We descendants don't know exactly in the cemetery she is, but the area with the children is known, so we can visit. 😊
All bless her, I'm glad you know where she is ❤️

Ahh me too Julia
It's sad to see places of worship getting sold, as those are supposed to be sacred spaces dedicated to the worship of Lord, it's not surprising tho, as Church of Ireland was a foreign institution dictated by British rule on a predominantly Catholic population. I learned that before the Catholic emancipation, Catholics had to be buried in Church of Ireland churchyards as they didn't have their own burial grounds, it explains the abundance of Catholic iconography such as Crucifixion/Calvary scenes depicted on tombstones in the so-called Protestant churchyards ✝
It's been deconsecrated now, which I never understand, a burial ground should never be deconsecrated
I have always wanted to live in an old church.
As an FYI, in the US many old cemeteries are now on private property. And no, family nemybers do not legally have right of access. Most land owners are descent folks who allow visitation but not all.
Wow really, I think if you have family buried you should always have a right to visit
great and interesting video , beautiful church and graveyard😗
Thank you ❤️
Although I am part of the British Commonwealth I have very little knowledge of the History of Ireland, I know that there was a great deal of contention between the Catholics and Protestants likely started after the formation of the Church of England and the wars between various holders of the throne. Plus, I have no idea about the difference between the two Irelands so I am hoping that you can send me to a website that can educate me of the History of Ireland that would be satisfactory to Irish people as to accuracy? I'll come back to this posting in hopes of a response. SO if you cave any knowledge of a website that would be great.
There's a lot but if you look up Ireland and Penal Laws, the troubles in Ireland, the peace treaty etc and honestly I'm not 100% in all the facts. So I wouldn't even try to tell you but you will definitely find it if you Google what I just told you
I would absolutely love to live there
