- Hi everyone! We couldn't wait for this travel day to try something new! None of us had ever been to Mexico before. We travelled from Manchester Airport to Cancun and stayed for two weeks at the Planet Hollywood Resort.
In amongst the travel chaos Tui subbed our flight to Hifly and we flew on an Flypop aircraft which was... interesting!

Finally you have Etihad Airways B787-10 (not sure flight number) to Abu Dhabi. Not your plane sadly. If it was though, they’d send you there instead of bussing you over

Hey guys, new subscriber alert! Watched all the vlogs from your last Orlando expedition and loved them. Looked back over a few of the older ones and have been impressed how Jim's comedic personality has bloomed over the years......definitely my kind of subtle humour!
Really looking forward to this series. I was cabin crew for BA in the late 90's/early noughties and we would get seven day trips to Cancun, once a month on average. Really enjoyed my time there. The beach is stunning, the food was amazing, shopping fantastic, excursions were really interesting. All in all a great place. The nightlife from my blurred memory was a different level, absolute carnage with a crew of thirteen! Oh the stories I could tell you.....probably only suitable for Jim's ears!

Remind me never to fly on the same plane as you guys! 😆 That was a really good vlog despite the issues, and the hotel looks amazing! Did you get any compensation for the lack of inflight entertainment? About 20 years ago the console on my (Virgin) seat wasn't working, so the flight crew gave me an instant $25 discount on in-flight duty free. I suspect those were the good old days though.
By the way, if Jimmy doesn't go into TV presentation when he's older it will be such a waste! 😅
It was one of those things and we had a laugh about it (in the end) so no complaints. I've got a subscription to Take a Break magazine now... every cloud and all that 😉😂
2nd time I went to Cancun our plane had to be changed last min as someone drove a catering truck into the door of the plane. It was Thomas cook yes that long ago we had paid for premium seating, didn't get it but got 150% of cost back in resort in cash and still premium on way back. paid for lots of excursions.

Pretty sure if me and Rich were stuck on a plane for 10 hours without any entertainment one of us would have been pushed out the emergency exit 😂 the hotel looks amazing! 💜

I loved this vlog. It’s funny but it made me think back to the days before mobile phones and tablets, people actually had to talk to each other. The hotel room looks amazing, how nice to have that space.

Thank full we got a dreamliner on the way back and it was a much more comfortable experience. The hotel definitely made up for the cruddy plane 😂

Hi just found your channel. Really liked this video. HiFly is a Portuguese leading company. They mainly have Airbus planes which Tui has Boeing. Hope this clears things up. Hope you enjoyed your flights and your holiday.
The flight out was grim with Hi Fly but the holiday was fantastic and a great flight back with Tui Nordic. Thank you 😊
Been to Mexico wouldn’t go back. That breakfast was so expensive
We definitely want to return in the future. I know what you mean about breakfast though... but you kind of expect to pay through the nose in airports.

That plane looked terrible you needed the full TUI experience and we did in our latest holiday from Manchester Aiport to Feurteventura! We had the same issue as you but it’s disgusting that they don’t give you inflight entertainment
TUI seem to be in a real pickle at the moment. We thought this was an unusual occurance but it seems to happen all the time with them. Sad to see a once great company go to the dogs 😔
Meant to ask when you booked did it say tui plane and was it 3-3-3 seating ? Did they let you know at the airport last minute change of aircraft ? 😊
Hi Nikki. We got an email the night before the flight to say they have chartered a different aeroplane/ company all together. I can't remember for sure on configuration but pretty sure it was 3-3-3 as a dreamliner 👍

Been to Mexico 10 times not always the same hotel but everyone was brilliant especially the riu hotels
We'd definitely visit Mexico again and try another resort area. Will have to take a look at their hotels 👍👍👍

We've watched all the Cancun Planet Hollywood vlogs and we love them. Thank tpu for giving us great info N tips 👍 What was so funny tho an I've e only realised this after watching , we was in T2 airport same time as you heading to Montego Bay Jamaica haha. We also ate in San Carlo an Sat in the large seating area afterwards. Did have a look for me on your vlogs but not cameo appearance haha.
We are going in May , can I ask if you tipped the staff an if so what currency please ?
Thanks Jodie, that's really nice of you to say. Funnily enough we are just having our last night in Abu Dhabi and fly back to Manchester early Sunday morning. We took a mixture of dollars and pesos and tips were appreciated in either. We tipped housekeeping and the person who stoked the mini bar. We left a couple of dollars at the buffet usually and an average of 10 in the sit down restaurant if the service was good (usually was). We would tip the pool people a couple of dollars every few rounds or if we knew we were staying in the same spot for a few hours 10 dollars up front and you get well looked after. There were times we didn't have cash on us by the pool and still got good service but those guys work hard going back and forward in that heat. Have the best time and hopefully our paths cross again in the future 😎

Hotel looks incredible can’t wait to see that view in the morning. Honestly your luck with planes! First no catering then no entertainment. We had no entertainment in Jan but luckily the plane was half empty so were able to move xx

Hi guys, great vlog .we are going back to Mexico in a month .Did you find security ok at Mexico, did they ask for any vaccine documents ,we are flying with Tui also from gatwick they give you forms for Mexico on board dont they ??
Security were fine and TUI issued the forms on the way out. I'm sure you already remember but fill out the top and bottom sections. Have a fab time next month 😎

Easily the worst flight I've ever been on but Steph & Jimmy reckon I'm just grumpy.
I've told them that other than the smell, the crampedness, the uncomfortable seat, no entertainment and being moved from our original seats and being told to wait and see what was left when everyone was onboard... it was fantastic 😂

We changed to Royalton Bavaro Punta Cana as thr flight wasn’t as long.
The room service food was the same , they called it diamond club where there it’s star club.
Hope you had a good one. We definitely want to go back to Mexico but try a different resort

We always try a different hotel … last time we stayed at the Hardrock.

Im certain I commented on this vlog last night, although it was the early hours so who even knows 😴😂 Hotel looks incredible, and we totally lost it at the scales in the bathroom (in an all inclusive resort!? We tipped housekeeping $3-5 per day and the person who fills your fridge (it is a separate person to housekeeping). For drinks if we were staying by the pool for a while we would tip $10 at the start otherwise we would tip a dollar or two every couple of drinks. I'd leave a couple of dollars at the buffet restaurant and for table service usually $10. Tips are not mandatory and expected but clearly appreciated. Hope you have a brilliant time 😎

Hi, we booked the holiday with TUI and used the coach transfer that was included. They had a rep outside of the hotel that directed you to the buses. Have a great time in January, hope you love it as much as we did 😎

I was meant to stay there but Covid struck and the hotel was not finished for my dates then the whole thing kicked off big time, Looking forward to your review as I was in Riu palace peninsula 4-18 June and looking for next year now.

@@TD3Vlogs A lot of sea food in buffet however it's a sea food area. The rooms, staff, building, pool, views and speciality restaurants made the stay well frankly amazing. First time at a Riu at Palace level but won't be the last.

Do you have to wear masks?
Only inside government buildings in Mexico (immigration/airport). That being said, we saw lots of people not wearing them.

It will be our 1st time in Mexico
We took a mixture of USD and Pesos. We tipped a couple of dollars in the buffet and by the pool for drinks service. We also tipped our waiters in the restaurants- usually $5-10. We tipped housekeeping $3 per day and $2-3 for the person filling the minibar back up.

Apart from the entertainment not a bad journey all things considered. I always fly British Airways and American Airlines to Cancun and stopover in Miami or New York for a couple of days, it gets extra air miles, breaks the journey, and no extra fare just need to get you hotel. I always arrange private transfers about £100 return so you have a driver waiting for your with your name. Cancun arrivals is pretty slick usually and 45mins to an hour is par for the course. I’ve always got spare “entrance exams” for Mexico as they are quite long. What you didn’t say is don’t lose the bit they give you back as that costs you some money and a delay when leaving Mexico.
Glad you didn’t have the 6 hour delay but for that flight Tui would have had to compensate you All £520 so a nice £1560 towards the next trip or stuff at home. Very much looking forward to this series.
That's a good point about keeping hold of the paperwork (luckily we did) but there were anumber of people on our transfer that hadn't. It will get covered off on our last day video 😊

I have just come back from playa del carmen. For anyone watching this and would be concerned about mask wearing we didn’t once wear a mask nor were asked to
With respect, your comment is not strictly true- Everyone is instructed to wear a mask in the airport as you will know and we chose to comply rather than risk our entry in to the Country. We also did an excursion to Chichen Itza and it was mandatory to wear a mask to get thorough the ticket area.
Outside of this I would agree and we didn't wear masks elsewhere throughout our holiday after the first day (our hotel had signs saying masks required indoors but nobody did so neither did we).
@@TD3Vlogs well with respect to you also I was never asked or instructed to wear a mask. I just wanted to make people aware of it in case they are put off going.
There are constant announcements in the airport 😂😂😂🤦♂️
I'm by no means pro mask by the way but you are told to wear masks in Federal buildings and you can't access Chichen Itza without putting one on to get in.

We are thinking Mexico next year instead of Disney. Hotel looks amazing, we are a family of 5 with a 10 year old, 8 year old and a 2 year old. The hotel looks more suited to older children, would you recommend the hotel to people with little ones??
We picked Planet Hollywood based on the theming and amenities. We looked at a lot of resorts that looked stunning but lacked kid friendly stuff. We (standard class / family side) had access to three pools (with lots of activities) and the lazy river plus there is a fantastic kids splash area for little un's - Jurassic Splash Park. They also have a beautiful beach, cinema (three films daily), kids
Club, table tennis, pool table in the sports bar so there is plenty going on.
We'll show more of the resort next week so hopefully it will start to give you a flavour 😊

We had booked the Hard Rock in Riviera Maya and had it cancelled in 2020 and 2021 :( So watching your vlog has given us so much excitement as the Planet Hollywood looks so much better!! we are online right now to see if we can get it through TUI Netherlands from Amsterdam for 2023..Thank you for another great vlog, we can't wait to see the rest! Jimmy , Noah and Roderigo are loving your tshirt..they are huge Vans fans too, TheirGrandma and Grandad just came back from Florida and brought loads of Vans tshirts back for them..I can't believe they fit into an American adult small size at just 11 and 12 :) Lots of love to the 3 of you and have a great weekend xx

Just a quick question for you guys or anyone else... we have 6 and 8 year olds, when booking fast track through Manchester Airport there is no option for children. In this case do you think we just select 4 x Adults at £5 each? Doing it through holiday extras is also £5 each so no difference, I'd just rather book directly with Manchester Airport. Thanks

We were shattered and I wanted to make use of our room amenities after that flight... i.e the telly. We got Tui Nordic on the way back and a dreamliner 🙌

American airports have TSA precheck which allows you mostly skip security checks. you simply run your bag through the x-ray and you walk through a quick machine scan and that's it. no separating things out just in/out 30 seconds unless they find something but usually nothing. you have to pay a fee and do a background check but worth it. its good for 5 years or more depending. I got because i travel a lot for various things so its just get it done and you get through quick. I know most other countries don't have this idea just something to think about. doesn't help at the ticket window but it helps after as you go through that line with no one in it.

We chose Planet Hollywood due to all the movie theming and plenty of things to keep Jimmy entertained. We loved it although it's a little out of the way - about an hour from the main cancun hotel zone. Would love to fly there from Donny 👌

10 hours on that ✈️ without entertainment wouldn’t of killed me…. I love to read and sleep when flying. It is nice to have the option to watch a movie, but it’s not a dealbreaker. The food actually looked alright. I flew to the US 5 years ago with United and they were still using the big screens on the walls for the movies, like being on a coach trip!!!! 😂
Steph told me about those big screens on the walls for long haul flight back in the day 😂

Our 2016 trip to florida was plane change n instead premium seats got economy knee on seat in front n no tvs not told until boarding lucky i had take a break too

Watched your orlando vlogs before we went on our holiday to florida, we're just back and your videos helped so much while we were away thank you so much for sharing your tips and recommendations with us cause they really helped. My seven year old has watched some so the despicable three were getting a mention on our holiday as we were trying restaurants etc by my son 🤣brilliant thanks for taking the time to share with us, watching your cancun videos as my mum is currently at the same hotel at the moment, to see what it's like.

Great vlog, watched last night with hubby, we love how positive you all are , we said we would never morning about the plane as those seats didn’t look comfortable at all.

We loved it Helen. It's by no means perfect but it ticked all the boxes for us. The room and facilities were first class and we loved all the theming. So glad we picked it for our first time visiting Mexico 😎
