45118 'The Royal Artilleryman' MAKES DEBUT on the 'DIAMOND JUBILEE EXPRESS' at BRISTOL TEMPLE MEADS!

- Yesterday, Locomotive Services Limited Class 45 Peak 45118 ‘ The Royal Artilleryman’ prepared for its debut on the mainline this weekend but not without a hiccup! The locomotive worked the ECS from Crewe - Bristol, but developed an auxiliary voltage regulator fault leaving the consist stranded at Goytre near Abergavenny! 47810 ‘Crewe Diesel Depot’ was hastily despatched from Crewe to rescue the train, but thankfully the peak pulled through and was fit to run and with the 47 acting as tail gunner, the ECS arrived at Bristol a mere 200 minutes late!
And so onto today and an early start this morning to capture the immaculately restored Class 45 this morning. As hot air balloons launched over Bristol, the mish mash of BR, Scotrail, Intercity and Saphos coaches arrived ready to depart forming the Intercity ‘Diamond Jubilee Express’ heading the for Ecclesbourne Valley Railway's Class 14s @ 60 gala and onwards to York. The sun was in completely the wrong place, late platform changes caused the usual frantic mad dash and chaos, but it was all worth it for a look at a bit of history lifting off this morning!
