    Um actually, the qilin is pronounced with the “q” being similar to a “ch” in English, which each of you pronounced wrong, though Trapp was close with his second try. Also, the qilin doesn’t really look like the illustration, and shares more features with a Chinese lion (particularly with its head), and doesn’t usually feature an elongated neck.

    • @paulm3952

      @@paulm3952 I can’t speak for the Japanese version, but the Chinese interpretation of the qilin only became associated with the shape of a giraffe in the Ming Dynasty when Zheng He brought a giraffe back to China from his travels, and the appearance was so foreign to the Qing Court that it was incorporated into illustrations of mythical creatures. Prior to this, however, the iconography of the qilin was very different, and didn’t resemble giraffes at all, as there was no frame of reference for such a shape for a creature.

      @paulm3952 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@reecedisney4242 I mean that the Japanese word for giraffe is 麒麟, which is the same as their word for Qilin. It's probably a loan word from Chinese in the case of the giraffe too.

      @reecedisney4242 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@paulm3952 Ahh I see. That’s interesting, because in Chinese, 麒麟 is commonly mistranslated as giraffe, but actually means the creature in question, which is described in Chinese as being more like a unicorn (in that the features that remain constant in each description is that the qilin has a horn and hooves). Meanwhile, the Chinese word for giraffe is 长颈鹿, which literally means “long-neck deer.” I wonder if the source of the mistranslation comes from Japanese kanji, despite having a specific meaning in Chinese 汉字

    Um actually, this is way too late, but there were three things wrong with that Steven Universe Fusion question:
    1) it isn't a ritualised dance, any dance will do as long as both gems have a true relationship, it doesn't even have to be a wholesome relationship, as when Pink Diamond's Topaz fuses with the corrupted Crystal Gem in spite of hating them, or when she fuses with Lapis Lazuli, trapping both of them in an abusive relationship at the bottom of the sea. In fact, I don't think the dance is even strictly necessary, as the first time Garnet formed neither Ruby nor Sapphire were dancing, Ruby was diving in to protect sapphire from falling debris.
    2) The one in the show, Garnet isn't a pure gem, she's a fusion.
    3) it isn't only Gems, as long as one of them is a gem, humans can be part of fusions: case in point, Steg and Stevonnie. This might be unique to Steven though, as he is the only known half-human Gem. In fact, I'm pretty sure Steven himself is a fusion, of the pink diamond version of himself, and the human parts of himself.
    That show was weird. Like, I've never partaken of drugs, but that show made me feel like I was on drugs, you know?
    I hate that I remember this much about it.

      Ehh, the Lavender Brown case is more complicated than that. Yes, someone else came in when the character became more prominent, but there's no reason to assume shenanigans at the base of the matter. Directors have to cast lots of people in tiny roles, and naturally most of them aren't going to be up to the challenge of being a primary character in multiple scenes in the next movie - or they just did one gig as an extra, and decided not to keep going. Is there any evidence to indicate that this sort of thing isn't what happened with Lavender's actresses?

    Um actually, the Millennium Falcon doesn't have missile launchers. Being originally a cargo ship, a container was designed to go between the front prongs, requiring the cockpit to be off center. Unless those missiles were added in recent movies, they shouldn't be there.

    I like how we got years of Dropout ads that international audiences couldn't subscribe to and now we're getting HBO Max ads with the same problem

      Honestly you're not missing out HBO Max is an abysmal platform that doesn't work half the time.
      I swear I spend more time fighting it trying to get it to work than actually watching anything.
      My favorite is when I actually get to work and in has a stroke and gives me the Can't play title error while it's still playing in the background.
      Honestly if it wasn't for the fact I'm not paying for it, I wouldn't use it.
      You're better off pirating the content on there because at least then you can watch it without issues.
