Karen, we can wait for your videos. You give us plenty of projects to fill the time no matter how long it is in between. Family and your emotional and mental health are priority. The best tip from your Declutter Challenge (this will be my third) is decide how much space you want or have to give a sewing category. I use that tip all over my house to keep it manageable and to be realistic about what I need. Not want, what I need. Thank you!
Karen - thanks for the great Q&A. I always enjoy spending time with you and hearing your tips, trips and strategies 😊 I’m sorry to hear about your fall and hospitalized family member. I hope both you and your family member are improving. I hope to be at the next Stitch n Chat.
I So Appreciate You 😊 I will be making the potato chip quilt very soon. I purchased an AccuQuilt 2.5” X 4.5” die. Due to physical conditions I’m unable to cut them by hand. All is good.😊
Having been pointed to your potato chip quilt last week, Im very happy. Made one immediately as a Linus child's quilt on Thursday, and today started a Christmas potato chip quilt, also for Linus!! Thank you x
Love you and most of your voice is right on spot but when it comes to Marking on your quilt, it’s best to be really careful and pre-test everything. I tested the friction pan on some fabric and yes it disappeared with the heat then I tested it by putting it in the freezer cause I only get my quilts up when I’m cold and the color came right back to the surface of the fabric. I didn’t check to see if it’ll wash out but I like to use a pencil just because I know it will wash out. I don’t trust chemicals based pens.
Excellent advice about involving a teenage recipient of a quilt. I just completed five niece/nephew quilts. Before making the quilt, I interviewed the recipient about colors and fabric theme interests and incorporated those into the quilt. These quilts were a real hit.
Couldn’t catch you live, but just finished watching replay. Thank you Karen for another very interesting Q & A. Some I knew what you would answer but some I didn’t, never fail to learn from your videos. Also, looking forward to our new Declutter Challenge for 2025. I started with your first one and each year surprise myself that I still have stuff to declutter. Yes would be interested in a Christmas ornament video.
Hi, my names Jan ( UK) and am at the absolute beginner stage of quilting as a hobby. Due to several health issues I'm unable to work therefore can't afford the type of batting I would like... My questions, 1) which is the best block to start with for ease but with big impact and 2) Can I use felt in place of batting? Love your videos and have learnt so much😊
I look forward to the declutter challenge this time because I have downsized when I moved in September and many of my tools and things were not where I kept them when the move was done. I have spent the last six weeks going through all the boxes, drawers and “things”. So I need the challenge again just to put things right. Thank you for having it again. I have recommended it to many of my sewing friends.
Small projects? That's what kick starts me! I'm so afraid of trying to make an entire quilt that looks too complicated. Find something you've never made, make a square AND use your scraps! Turn it into a wall hanging, runner, or baby blanket. I also have an idea of making random blocks of same fabrics to make placemats. That might be many Christmas presents. ❤
Gosh, am I the only one who needs a fabric intervention? I opened my two 32 gallon bins of Christmas fabric and it was like a bomb went off in my sewing room!😂😂😂
Hi Karen, I really enjoyed the video you did several months back were you made small zipper pouches and an iPad sleeve. I have made more than a dozen of the small zipper pouches usung felt, oil cloth, leather... thank you so much for that wonderful tutorial! I know you probably don't have time, but if you can ever do something like that again--even something that's quilted like a wine bag or other gift items--I'd Love it! But only if it gives tou joy. You really set me up well for Christmas gifts this year. 😻
Hello Karen, I have learned so much from watching your videos. As a very new quilter, you have answered many questions and solved many of the problems I face. For that, thank you so much. I made an Irish Chain quilt and when I got it back from the Quilter/Longarmer, it was too short for my queen bed. I didn’t use a pattern and it did not have a border. I made a pieced border, cut batting and backing and was able to add it to the sides ( watching videos😊) but it is a little wonky and now I’m stuck trying to add the top and bottom borders. Do you have a video or advice on how to add a border to an already quilted quilt?
Watch my video on the Strip and flip method th-cam.com/video/1_fnogQYxNo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dVXEs8mig6e6lxqD This video is using it forQAYG but it works just as well for adding borders to make a quilt bigger which I briefly show in this video here th-cam.com/video/kcefHTeuXNE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=laksWdWfx2sEQLp5
You have more to declutter? lol 😂. I’m sure your room is great. I tried the declutter challenge most of the time. Love your help. I still have a long way to go. I am behind my husband has been ill most of the year. On a way to get things going again. I will never be able to use it all. I make mostly all charity projects etc some family things. Have ufo’s too. Oh my. Take care
❤ When you lose your sew jo Go to a Quilt guild, meeting even as a guest. It will revive your inspiration by seeing what other people are doing those people are encouraging and there’s usually prizes to win and people to inspire you and you can always jump into a charity project that will get you blood flowing. Another thing would be to change directions instead of just constantly making the same type of repeating Quiltblocked. Perhaps it’s time to do a paper piece project or take a class in bagmaking or perhaps just a simple tabletop. Her class will get you inspired with other people and colors. How did the drudge?❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My batting roll is standing up in the corner of my bedroom, and I lay my quilt top on my bed and just roll it out on top and then cut, stand it back up in the corner.
I love the quilt behind you, is there a pattern. I would love help on fraying fabrics, I have just finished a beautiful Elizabeth Hartman for my2 year old grandson which is all in a particular brand of solids which fray terribly and now finished I am having to sit and tidy up the back and check the fraying hasn’t been reduced the seam allowance to dangerous levels for holding and ongoing washing. I have also found some of the darker fabrics will bleed with a steam iron, so disappointing but the idea of washing the huge number is a real obstacle in my head.
I hope I've got the correct video. Is this the one where you were talking about how many blocks for different size quilts? Is there a link to that? Thank you for such a wealth of information! Love watching your videos!

How can you tell what kind of batting I have,, is there a burn test to know if its all cotton or part poly?? i have so many small pieces that I want to put together but not sure what they are make of!!
So glad that you are going to do the Declutter Challenge again next year. Next year my first scrap for 2025 will be your potato chip quilt.

@@rosehixon2790 try using the Crayola washable markers. They wash away permanently!

YAS!!!! We need the declutter challenge. I look forward to it every year!
Thank you Karen the sound was great this time and I’m looking forward to the declutter challenge my room needs it more than ever this year.m
Yes I would love to do a new Christmas ornament. I enjoyed the last one. Thank you for your channel I watch for each video.

Thank you for the great Q&A! I appreciate your time and dedication to this community ❤.
Great tips and advice as usual. Enjoyed this session and looking forward to more videos!

now is the time to try and sell it
So love your interviews with quilters and creatives❤
Also love your new quilt behind you Karen. I thought it must be EPP before you said tradional piecing. Good luck with your entry to Quiltcon .🤞♥️🇦🇺
Love the quilt behind you!!!❤
Wrap quilted fabric around the handle of the rotary cutter and fasten it in place.
It makes the handle larger to hold on to
& reduces hand fatigue
good tip
Glad to know you’re feeling better. I hope to do the declutter this year. Last year I wasn’t in the right head space. Yes to decoration
thanks for another lovely video.
Yes on the Christmas Decoration, thank you very much. (Love your hair.) Glad you are healing, my biggest fear is of falling---

First time. On the replay crew😊
Im interested in Indonesia trip as closer to Australia 😊
Love the Christmas deco. enjoyed the chat. Love listening.
Thanks Karen for an interesting QAnd A. I want to wish you better, and also your family members in hospital. ❤️
Crayola washable markers are a game changer! Guaranteed to wash out in the laundry.
I like Hera Marker Tool for marking. What do think of it?
I occasionally use it. It good when you are immediately using the mark in your work

I'm interested in getting a cutting tool like accuquilt/cut

Hi Karen from Melanie Monti in Alabama! I follow you but this is my first Q&A.
Self-care is the key....
Hi there. Got moved the Topeka. Yesterday was the first sewing on the Iceland Adventures.
An ornament/decoration sounds fun.

Hey from Virginia.
Hi from Cyprus
hello from SE Iowa
I use most of my Frankenbatting to make Meals On Wheels placemats
Can you recommend a good reference book for making placemats?
Honestly, they are pretty easy to figure out yourself. What are you making them for?
@@JustGetitDoneQuilts Just myself and the hubby. Pinterest has been a great help. Love your videos and shares. 😀
Hi there.
I have several projects in the works at once because I get bored with one at a time.
