as someone who's very interested in language learning, the idea of making a special writing system for a language I know has always made me excited and after watching this video I've grown even more interested in the subject, I'll create one!
Once I made a sort of cursive cipher that was made of loops and points representing the numbers from 1 to 6 (1 - a point, 2 - two points, 3 - a loop, 4 - a loop and a point, 5 - a point and a loop, 6 - two loops) and alternating up and down, to encode and decode it I would sort of recite the alphabet in my head in six groups like ABCD EFG HIJK LMNOP QRSTUV WXYZ, the up number was the group and the down number was the position in the group, I eventually got better at recalling the groups and positions and even the specific pairings, and put numerals in the blank spots, I liked it because at a glance it looked like regular but slightly weird cursive. I later memorized ETAOIN SHRDLU, and after that a really simplified version of the English sound inventory, and made various ciphers out of those, including a whistled one.
Maybe start with 3writing forms, like Japanese, but maybe add like 1 to that. It could be Syllabary Alphabet Abjad logography And it would switch every word But Only the syllabary is per word The alphabet is every 2 The abjad (no diacritics btw >:) ) is every 3 And the logography is every 4 Also they change from one (every *number* ) to the one after that in that order. Hope you like, just my idea for that :p
Just base it more on English pronunciation than current spelling. Maybe add in etymological factors so that words borrowed from the same source (Greek, Latin, French etc.) are spelt similarly.
There was a kid in my high school that would draw these symbols and it became popular quickly. All of the kids and the teachers would try to copy his symbols. One day he moved away and there had been a high schooler who got a symbol tattooed to his arm. Well, the kid moved away and the day he left he sent a code decipher sheet and it revealed dirty words about fornication! The kid had filthy words tattooed to him. It was crazy.
I made a ws when I was 13 to use for notes. I had the feature of not allowing repeating characters, but using "-" to denote repetition. In a way "ii" became "i-" or in reality "|-", so when you saw "||" you knew it was "h" and not "ii". I used it extensively in notes at school. Other ideas I had: - Using math as a ws, so text just looks like math exercises. - A systemetic way of turning unicode into glyphs like it is a 2⁶⁴ letter alphabet. - Something that isn't confined to using the 2 dimensions paper and screens provide. Think of a ws that uses depth to convey meaning as well (maybe it is for 4D aliens or 3D glyphs in VR/AR in the future)
I actually creating an alphabet since 2017 and a language for it since 2019. I actually used to share some parts with my friends and our class has 27! YES 27 UNIQE ALPHABETS AND 4 UNIQE LANGUAGES! When i started it, everyone wrote over mine or deleted and added tgings on it and every friend group has a uniqe alphabet. Mibe is the most complicated and most professional one cuz u know i started first lol. But sadly we are all highschoolars now so we cut our paths this year. Ill miss u guys
/mi/ do you maintain your knowledge of all your conscripts? I’m currently learning Japanese and also have a conscript, but I mildly worry about how I’ll maintain knowledge in both without it being a pain. My conscript isn’t too simple
I don't maintain knowledge of all of them, only two of my alternate English scripts, and one of my conlang's writing systems. It shouldn't be too much of a pain as long as you practice both of them.

I have several my own writing systems for the purpose of keeping diary. One for my mother tongue, another for foreign languages which I've learned. They share same characters but are different in shape so I can easily distinguish which part is written in Mother Tongue or Foreign languages. Finally I'm making my conlang and it uses various scripts from Natural languages. For example it can be written in Arabic Devanagari,Tifinagh,Runes etc For that I can learn many writing systems.
since i was a kid, i've always been fascinated by the idea of creating my own writing system so people won't know what i write next to my notes during classes. but i was never really commited to create one, as it always seemed to hard for me to come up with perfect symbols that were different enough from the latin letters... so i started learning various existing writing systems. as of now, i know cyrillic, greek, armenian, futhark, katakana, hiragana and hangul. armenian is definitely my favourite: the best both aesthetically and functionally for me. using them for my notes has always worked, cause pretty much nobody i'm close with can actually read them. i think that learning existing systems can actually be better than creating one from scratch because 1. you just have to learn it, saves some effort!!! and 2. it increases your knowledge! and i think that's beautiful. i love it everytime i actually see some cyrillic or katakana on ppl's clothing or on books... it's so satisfying to be able to read them! (yeah I won't be able to understand BUT IDC I CAN READ!!!)
A major weakness that secret writing systems aside from the one featured at 5:41 is that once the code breaker has identified what language the writing system is written in, it's just a cypher and you can easily break a basic cypher by exploiting statistical trends in the language. ie; whatever the most common letter is, is probably an E. second most common is probably an N. most common series of 3 letters is probably "the". relatively speaking, breaking a cypher is really easy
yeah same! i made a writing system a while ago and a font that i used to make it a lot easier to write actually is now the official and the original is falling out of fashion QUICKLY but so is the new one but i think its gonna be there til 2025~ before it gets fully taken over by the latin alphabet. the reason the latin alphabet is slightly more used is because i dont have unicode for my script and with the amount of computers and phones and tablets, young people learn their vocabulary from yt and tiktok and in latin cause no unicode. its so sad watching the decline of my beautiful indeginous script… 😢😢
I find the concept of language and communication highly fascinating. From reading scriptures from the past to seeing written signs & symbols in ancient ruins is something quite palpable. It’s like everything correlates so perfectly from how we perceive the outside world within us through communication and understanding to the outer world; planet earth- everything from books, tv, media, radio, internet etc Perception holds value as to how information has been portrayed- construct or abstract. It’s amazing how we are designed in such a way that we are able to experience these concepts as a whole. That also brings more questions: why are we designed the way we are? Why is pie 3:14? What did our ancestors know, that we don’t? What is the meaning of all of this? Everything is all intertwined and that is the beauty. Coming back to secret language, have you ever experienced language/communication that is unarticulated or tacit? Like you know without knowing? I wouldn’t call it telepathy because you don’t sit there with a tin foil hat!! But it’s like something that is not seen/ it’s not tangible. It’s like thought transference, but it’s like only certain humans have a collective understanding from which they perceive.
I do this as a hobby and my first writing system was to write something without people knowing what I wrote. But now I do it from time to time for artistic purposes. And I've improved a lot in the last two years because I'm ashamed of my first writing system...
I’m developing mind to prioritize speed and space efficiency. It looks much like cursive and every letter in a word is connected. This means that the space between words can be super minimal since it’s obvious which letter are connected and which are not. Any other ideas for reaching my two goals?
Kenneth Carazo Hello Ken, that sounds nice! As for speed, do you mean fast for reading or fast for writing? As for space efficiency, I made a WS based primarily on that. One nice way to achieve this is to look for common trends in English writing (assuming it’s an English writing system), things like double letters, (sh), (th) or even longer sequences like (-ing) or (-tion). You can shorten these by creating a special character that replaces them. This can save a lot if it’s you’re going for. I would love to see it when it’s done!
User 999a ah yes I already made many singular symbols that represent multiple letters. It’s a real cool idea but hard to memorize. I’m still polishing it but I’ll upload a pic on my channel. It’s pretty much done mostly. I went for a cursive look to increase speed (for writing) and I feel like it’s style allows for more slight of hand (without becoming illegible) than normal letters but I’m not sure cuz I can’t write fast yet. Lemme know what you think. Pic will be on my channel
I (currently homeschooled) used to make random writing systems in school cuz i couldnt understand the teacher speaking chinese, i realy love the vid and keep on watching it from time to time, hope u make more content :D
I have made my own writing systems before when I was younger, where each symbol or whatever is a letter of the english alphabet. I am now planning on making a writing system that is like Hangul, but more minimalist.
That's not really how an Abugida works, they have a default vowel sound and a vowel sign changes that default vowel or even removed it, though it doesn't have to form ligatures like it does in devanagari. If the consonant doesn't have an inherent vowel but still has vowel signs as ligarures, that is still an alphabet, like tengwar.
@@ammaralmarzooq5764 abugida usually modify their letter depending on the vowel But an abugida is usually a script where the consonant has an inherent vowel (usually a) some abugidas don't modify their consonants, they just write the vowels
ik I'm late but I made a writing system that I can type on my phone. I did it in italian because: 1)I live there 2)Basically I made a phonetic alphabet, so consonants paired with vowels. Italian has 5 written vowels like english, but 7 clear spoken ones. It would be almost impossible in English because of all the differences in spoken vowels. I chose an obscure african writing system called Vai, which is also syllabic, and has letters for many more than just 21 sounds, so I paired some of the most common consonants to be paired for example: "astro" would be a/stro "pungiglione" is pu/ngi/gli/o/ne I also put special characters for double letters and words that end in a consonant. I'm writing all this because I doubt that I will ever use it. I just made it in case the EU wanted to spy on private messages, and this would be an alternative.
I am working on a conlang which is a simplification of English and designing a new writing system, I think it is a good idea to drop certain uncommon letters and add new letters for common sounds, for exanple in English Q can be represented by a K and the sound Sh could have a new character. It would also make it a lot harder for people to crack and solve as it has different rules even if teh grammar is identical.
When I was younger, in about like Year 3/3rd Grade, I made my own language called Crelin. I had formed the name of this writing system from “Crayola” and then the name “Lin”. It would be written with a bunch of straight lines and squiggles and a bunch of squares (squares are my favourite shape till this day.) and I even made a little page in my old notebook dedicated to it! (But obviously my handwriting was trash so no matter how much I’d like to explain it right now, I can’t even read how I used to spell “hello”.) but if you wanted to write my name in Crelin you’d make a little mountain shape and then a few squares and then a tiny squiggle and a few lines around it. I don’t know how I found that notebook but I’m just typing out what I see. Anyways, I might use some Crelin in my new language and update some words. Wish me luck :)
I already had made one for that drive from Arabic script before seeing this. I use my secret script to convey messages to my friends working strict rules. It was suitable for the entire Arabic alphabet and English alphabet and suitable for writing the Quran.
sometime in 7th grade, I made a english retexture with less “unique” letters. missing letters were written with a mark that looks like ‘. yea, letters with ‘ have about no logic behind them. so to write L you would write E’. or R would be P’. In 8th grade I realised the letters x, c (except for ch) and q were all useless, so those were removed. as for typing, it’s not every letter gets a keyboard letter, it’s every unique letter, ‘ became D, so typing hello became heeeddo. I made a rule where chained ‘ had to go at the end, so LL is EE’’. Eventually th and sh got their own letters. the goal was to make writing decently fast, and about like 60% of english letters were actually unique
i just look at a word with the first letter of that word being the letter i want and draw an abstract drawing of that and iterate it at least 5 times until cant iterate it any more and thats the glyph for the word example: letter b i would draw a bag or barn and simplify it until i cant anymore and then thats the symbol
I had made one system when I was 10. And still I remember it cz I had written it too much.. I had called it "kinton" shortened from "King of Tongues" I called it toungue instead of language bcz I believed it was just a writing system instead. But further on I made a language too which I called "Pakish" as at that time I was dreaming that there will be a time when it will be the national language of "Pakistan". As I am a Pakistani.. Quite funny? I love my childhood.
for anyone here many years later looking to do this with english please please PLEASE look up etaoins up its basically all the letters of the english alphabet from most used to least used ive seen a bunch of my old ones where a and e were super duper complicated and it just makes it harder
I assigned a different letter to each letter (meaning that if you are talking, and your name is Mia, in my language it would be Soi) and on paper, I have made up symbols assigned to each letter. Its cool! And when I’m TYPING i have an emoji assigned to each letter 😂
is there somewhere i can dm you? i would like to be able to send a picture of what i have so far so that you could help me if thats okay. im having trouble with rules for something specific. basically im separating consonants based on whether you can hold onto/draw them out. so consonants like r, l, m, and n that you can draw out all have a similar base shape for their symbols but i dont know how to differentiate them. same with consonants like t g d and p. they are all going to have similar base shapes but i dont know how to make them different. edit: i figured it out but my ws is very inefficient to write. but, its purely for cheating on tests and passing notes in class so its fine. plus as i start to learn it better it will be easier. bonus tip, if you write “the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” it has every letter of the alphabet so its good practice😃👍
Hello Hailey! Of course! Your project sounds really interesting and I would love to help. If you have instagram, you can contact me there. My account id is ammar_piano. If prefer another way, you can tell me.
i created a system where consonants are vertical lines-like structure and vowels are single superscript shapes. doubled letters have a dot on top of it.
I made a alphabet that uses English I use it for fun I call it Kuuk script My first diary uses drawings meaning a word and I can't understand it anymore so thanks for the vid it helped me alot
My pseudo-logograph system doesn't have a glyph for every single word, but instead more common base glyphs, that can combine into different meanings. For instance, 💧is water ☐ is box so 💧☐ would be water bottle
I LOVED this video so much. I designed my own writing system in 7th grade but it is pretty trash :/ I'm gonna use this video to make a better one. Thanks mate!
What app do you use to make your own letters/abugidas, etc, which you called AMECS. If maybe, can i send to you my own-made abugidas to you.? I like to have it a unicode so that I can write/type it on my pc. Thank you. Hope you respond .😁
At 5th grade i made exact same thing but for numbers. No idea what to call it. (shhhh its main purpose was to cheat on math exam) But nobody able to solve it until i told them how to. I almost got caught by teacher but i was lucky enough she can't read it and things it just a strange drawing.
I was inspired by this video to make a script BUT I make it not as a super secret script but as a secondhand script abugida/abjad for a language that I am working on.
This comment is probably a little late but… you can look online in those aesthetic symbol websites and find symbols, and use them for your writing system. You can also use emojis
i am currently drawing my own swedish alphabet with symbols and how to say them! im gonna show my friend the alphabet and i and my friend are gona write a message to my other friend and he wont understand shit of it!
All you have to do is tweak that word a bit - "Scribles", or "Scriptles". Even "Scripples"? Or "Scrivels"? Although that sounds a bit like "drivel"! :D

I chose an obscure african writing system called Vai, which is also syllabic, and has letters for many more than just 21 sounds, so I paired some of the most common consonants to be paired for example:
"astro" would be a/stro
"pungiglione" is pu/ngi/gli/o/ne
I also put special characters for double letters and words that end in a consonant.
I needed tht to understand what my doctor prescribed
I have mine very mixed. Some bits of Spanish, (mostly) English, and a mix of a logograph. It is all over the place and I got to fix it.
3:28 Lol. I live 7km away from Montserrat mountain in Catalonia, Spain. I did not expect to see it written here
Very cool video Ammar!
i just look at a word with the first letter of that word being the letter i want and draw an abstract drawing of that and iterate it at least 5 times until cant iterate it any more and thats the glyph for the word
example: letter b i would draw a bag or barn and simplify it until i cant anymore and then thats the symbol
شكرا جزيلا على هذا الفيديو الرائع 💗انقذتني💗💗💗

Bro, you should make more videos. I found it hilarious, informative and entertaining
In my favorite series bones, in one of the season the characters use flowers to communicate.
for anyone here many years later looking to do this with english
please please PLEASE look up etaoins up
its basically all the letters of the english alphabet from most used to least used
ive seen a bunch of my old ones where a and e were super duper complicated and it just makes it harder
dude, yr so underated y need more subs this is the kind of videos that i ACCUALY wanna watch, youve earned yr self a sub keep up the good work.
I assigned a different letter to each letter (meaning that if you are talking, and your name is Mia, in my language it would be Soi) and on paper, I have made up symbols assigned to each letter. Its cool! And when I’m TYPING i have an emoji assigned to each letter 😂
Nice video; I've always loved creating fun writing systems!
ayyy same!
I've made like 10 languages and have tried to learn a lot and I'm currently learning Chinese mandarin in year 4 of school and I'm from New Zealand
You should make other videos, this video is amazing!
I made (not exactly a writing system) but a way of communicating by tapping my fingers and me and my friend use it
You mean morse code?
@@kunvarrawat5040they made it
is there somewhere i can dm you? i would like to be able to send a picture of what i have so far so that you could help me if thats okay. im having trouble with rules for something specific. basically im separating consonants based on whether you can hold onto/draw them out. so consonants like r, l, m, and n that you can draw out all have a similar base shape for their symbols but i dont know how to differentiate them. same with consonants like t g d and p. they are all going to have similar base shapes but i dont know how to make them different. edit: i figured it out but my ws is very inefficient to write. but, its purely for cheating on tests and passing notes in class so its fine. plus as i start to learn it better it will be easier. bonus tip, if you write “the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” it has every letter of the alphabet so its good practice😃👍
I made writing system in a day and another one in another day. Every writing system was for a conlang(constructed language).
omg that’s exactly what i was looking for
oahway, Iyay houldsay akemay oneyay orfay igpay atinlay. (This text is pig latin, here is the translation, Woah, I should make one for pig latin.)
I didn't even need a translation for that
I edge to this video!🌹😇
As a writer you are a godsend 🙏😂
I made a alphabet that uses English I use it for fun I call it Kuuk script
My first diary uses drawings meaning a word and I can't understand it anymore so thanks for the vid it helped me alot
Yeah, same, anyways my old diary is falling apart at the spine, so do you recommend any good quality affordable 3x4 notebooks?
Hey, there's no document in the description. I'd love to see your scribbles. :)
My pseudo-logograph system doesn't have a glyph for every single word, but instead more common base glyphs, that can combine into different meanings. For instance,
💧is water
☐ is box
so 💧☐ would be water bottle
I LOVED this video so much. I designed my own writing system in 7th grade but it is pretty trash :/ I'm gonna use this video to make a better one. Thanks mate!
What pen do you use at 6:20
It looks like a Tombow Fudenosuke to me
Dammm a cool and useful video!! Thanks
This is incredible
This is a really nice video!! Thanks!!
What app do you use to make your own letters/abugidas, etc, which you called AMECS. If maybe, can i send to you my own-made abugidas to you.? I like to have it a unicode so that I can write/type it on my pc. Thank you. Hope you respond .😁
Me and my cousin made symbols as a language but now we must learn how to say words in our language for secret lol
Should've called it "Script-les"
Thank you Mr. المرزوق.
i just simplify it and reverse the letters and some other things ( i also add a , between each word and made it in 3 hours)
I have don’t this for so long and I do it all the time
Could you please put the system in the description again?
thank you so much !! very useful
I actually made an alphabet that looked like phone numbers once lol
Wow I Know Arabic too! but only tunisian dialect a lil bit of regular modern arabic
How do I decode one?
I did the same thing around the same age, that's pretty neat
I just made a script, started changing words in hungarian, I think I may just make a conlang out of it
You can teach more of these 😉
I do it 10 years a go and to be effective and phonetic writing system ever
At 5th grade i made exact same thing but for numbers. No idea what to call it.
(shhhh its main purpose was to cheat on math exam)
But nobody able to solve it until i told them how to. I almost got caught by teacher but i was lucky enough she can't read it and things it just a strange drawing.
0:44 Con Lang
I do that
And I want to make no one know I do that
I was inspired by this video to make a script BUT I make it not as a super secret script but as a secondhand script abugida/abjad for a language that I am working on.
how do you digitize a writing system
This comment is probably a little late but… you can look online in those aesthetic symbol websites and find symbols, and use them for your writing system. You can also use emojis
I have my own code. People think its just silly scribbles I like to draw. If only they knew 😂😂😂
Can someone show me they language? And teach me how to write it! It’s ok if not I just need inspiration ✨❤️
i am currently drawing my own swedish alphabet with symbols and how to say them!
im gonna show my friend the alphabet and i and my friend are gona write a message to my other friend and he wont understand shit of it!
where is the writing system its not in the description ?
Thank you very much very useful
Where is the doc
Underrated!
Didn’t find it in the description :(
Is there a way to turn my personal code into keyboard 😅 i mean like english language keyboard so can i make my own language keyboard, just for me?
Very interesting. But audio makes hearing a little difficult.
All you have to do is tweak that word a bit - "Scribles", or "Scriptles".
Even "Scripples"?
Or "Scrivels"? Although that sounds a bit like "drivel"! :D
Trick: You can use this for conlangs too!
