Only being a musician you can perceive all the quality and elegance of their songs. This song was composed by them for a folk singer about a gipsy drama story but she finally didn't record it and Mecano decided to do their own version. That's why it sounds quite different from their most of songs. The song was also recorded in italian and french. The girl, Ana Torroja, continues singing as a solist.

Por ejemplo "No controles", para olé olé, o "Lía", para Ana Belén. Pero nunca para Isabel Pantoja, de la que para que te hagas una idea, se llegó a decir que sostuvo un romance con José María. Cuando en realidad, ni se conocen. Esto es algo contado por el propio jose en alguna entrevista, juraría que en la promoción de "Luna". Tanto esta canción, como cruz de navajas, fueron escritas con la única intención de incluirse en el repertorio de Mecano.

Al único que le parecía convencer era al pobre José María, que no consiguió que se lanzase como primer single del disco. Sin embargo esa fue la canción que impulsó a la banda en el mercado hispanoparlante, y marcó un antes y un después en la orientación musical /comercial de Mecano. A partir de ese éxito, el synthpop de Nacho perdió fuerza a la hora de incluirse en los discos finales, frente a las baladas de Jose. Lo de Sabina, la Pantoja, y todas esas historias, son cuentos chinos. Alrededor de Mecano se escribieron muchísimas leyendas. Como aquella del amante de fuego y el incendio de Alcalá 20. Lo mejor siempre es escuchar únicamente a los protagonistas. Y todo esto que te cuento se puede encontrar en las cientos de entrevistas que los tres componentes dieron a lo largo de los años.

Mecano is, maybe, the greatest music ban d from Spain. Ana Torroja has a lovely beutiful voice but Jose Maria Cano, is an awesome composer!!!! All his songs are incredible sheets and the lyrics are pure literature. This orcherstra is part of the original song, Jose Maria has a very operistical sense of composing. "Hijo de la Luna" is a tragical and touching song about a gipsy woman that is killed by his husband because their child is albine and he thinks she cheated him with a white man. The history is decorated with a folk poetical background, telling that the woman, to charm her love interest, make a deal with the Moon. The Moon tells her that she wants to be a mother so, the man will fall in love with the woman but, in exchange, she will have to give her their first child. So it is suposed that because of this sourcery the child born albine. In the end the man abandones the child in the woods and the moon take care of him (the waning Moon became his cradle). And so, the deal is fulfilled. The typical story of twisted magic masterfully told. This is also inspired in Federico García-Lorca poems imaginery. "Hijo de la Luna" is a masterpiece of spanish modern music.

Mecano was part of a branch of "Rock en Español" called "Rock Romántico" which was very big in Spain. Other groups of that movement include La Union, Duncan Dhu, and Hombres G, all of which are great bands worth checking out. These bands were also popular in Latin America, but no noteworthy bands surged in this side of the Atlantic that identified themselves with the movement.

I have just come from a musical dedicated to Mecano and, although I'm a heavy metal fan, I'll just say they were superb musicians and songwriters. Only being a musician you can perceive all the quality and elegance of their songs. "Hijo De La Luna" is maybe their famous song out of Spain but the people who grow with their music, we know that all their discography was a neverending list or hits during 10 years.

Hi, I am late here 🙋🏻♀️Nacho explained once that he was good friends with the great Hans Zimmer and he inspired this and I think Nacho mentioned that he, if not helped, at least supervised and then approved, with the composition, since Nacho wanted to try music with orchestra but he had no experience with it.
Mecano was ahead of his time. You must also listen to the work of each of the Cano brothers (José María and Nacho) as soloists. Both giants of music.

This band started in new romantic wave style and in the late 80s became more pop. This song was composed by them for a folk singer about a gipsy drama story but she finally didn't record it and Mecano decided to do their own version. That's why it sounds quite different from their most of songs.

Es cierto que de vez en cuando, tanto Nacho como Jose componían para otros artistas. Por ejemplo "No controles", para olé olé, o "Lía", para Ana Belén. Pero nunca para Isabel Pantoja, de la que para que te hagas una idea, se llegó a decir que sostuvo un romance con José María. Cuando en realidad, ni se conocen. Esto es algo contado por el propio jose en alguna entrevista, juraría que en la promoción de "Luna".
Tanto esta canción, como cruz de navajas, fueron escritas con la única intención de incluirse en el repertorio de Mecano.
@@Vilonet lo que sí pasó fue que cruz de navajas no les gustaba mucho a Nacho&Ana, y tampoco a los de la discográfica. Al único que le parecía convencer era al pobre José María, que no consiguió que se lanzase como primer single del disco. Sin embargo esa fue la canción que impulsó a la banda en el mercado hispanoparlante, y marcó un antes y un después en la orientación musical /comercial de Mecano. A partir de ese éxito, el synthpop de Nacho perdió fuerza a la hora de incluirse en los discos finales, frente a las baladas de Jose.
Lo de Sabina, la Pantoja, y todas esas historias, son cuentos chinos. Alrededor de Mecano se escribieron muchísimas leyendas. Como aquella del amante de fuego y el incendio de Alcalá 20. Lo mejor siempre es escuchar únicamente a los protagonistas. Y todo esto que te cuento se puede encontrar en las cientos de entrevistas que los tres componentes dieron a lo largo de los años.

"Hijo de la Luna" is a tragical and touching song about a gipsy woman that is killed by his husband because their child is albine and he thinks she cheated him with a white man. The history is decorated with a folk poetical background, telling that the woman, to charm her love interest, make a deal with the Moon. The Moon tells her that she wants to be a mother so, the man will fall in love with the woman but, in exchange, she will have to give her their first child. So it is suposed that because of this sourcery the child born albine. In the end the man abandones the child in the woods and the moon take care of him (the waning Moon became his cradle). And so, the deal is fulfilled.
