West Coast games air at 7:05pm in Cali and 1pm in Japan. No way is he going to East Coast where his games would air at 10am when the Japanese would be in school/work. Americans just don’t understand Sports in an International setting (think Soccer). The Japanese take holidays just to watch there hero play. I think it’s between Dodgers, Angels & Giants.
one thing you omitted, he is coming off of his second tommy john surgery. The Jays have the best off season facility in the league after shelling 100m for it. If you're looking to prolong your career, that has to come into consideration at some point especially for someone who is known as a workaholic as Ohtani is.

East coast is not important in 2023. This not the 90s and 2000s. Parker is out of touch . Parker said it was 70 percent and ends up being 45 percent. Feelings spouting things out that are not true. Let’s rename him Donald Parker.
No. Baseball is bad for baseball. It’s things like the “unwritten rules in baseball” that’s ruining the sport. Not one guy on one team that pretty good numbers wise in a boring game.
I think you're looking too far into the term 'unwritten rules.' Life has unwritten rules, lol. It's just expectations of respectful behavior. Everyone knows in NFL you kneel in the final minute with the lead, in Golf you concede putts inside of 1 foot in match play, in basketball you're not supposed to wag your finger in a guy's face after a block, and in hockey - the fight is over when one/both guys hit the ice. Stop making respect for the opponent into a bad thing. Taunting is not tolerated in any walk of life.
IMO it's more of a cultural thing for Ohtani, as the west coast has more asian and or Japanese culture than East Coast. I live in Japan ..going on a decade now, when I visit the US it's all west coast Socal, Hawaii, PNW, Vegas. Ichiro stayed with Mariners for his majority career for many of the same reasons as well. Blue Jays doesn't surprise me as there's moderate Japanese presence there too
IMO its a culture choice. It sucks for the east coast, but its not hard to see a japanese person might want to live on the west coast instead of the east coast. Its like why black NBA players dont want to sign with the Utah jazz in free agency. Is Utah really that bad for african americans?? No its not, but the stereotypes and stories are out there and i cant blame him if he feels more comfortable on the west coast
He doesnt want the glare of the NY media or the other east coast teams. Toronto appeals to him because its quieter, and he'd be playing for an entire country.
From an overall baseball business perspective it would make sense for Othani to sign with an East Coast team but in reality every athlete doesn’t necessarily want to play there. Hopefully he will make the decision that he feels is best for him.
basically what Im getting is that you want us Canadians to pay for franchises but when it's time to get free agents, we can only get the 2nd or 3rd tier guys because it's not "good for the game". Riiight.
This is a terrible take. The average fan likes to follow the league, but not as much as their favorite teams. If he goes to the Yankees it doesn’t deter Mets or Phillies fans from watching their favorite teams.
It’s quite easy to understand. I knew since before it was reported that Ohtani wouldn’t ever go play for the Yankees. The Yankees have too many all-time greats. Ohtani wants to create his own legacy, not live in the shadows of others.
Well everyone was watching Bonds when literally no one could get him out to the point where it was better to walk him with the bases loaded then try to get him out, steroids or not that was something to see.

Both of these leagues revolve around 2 teams and both leagues have seen a drop in viewership while the nfl has taken a different approach. In the nfl every team has a shot and fans know it. Nobody cries when the top free agent goes to tampa bay bucs like Tom Brady did but in baseball they do. I havent watched a baseball game in years because I know my Current favorite team the Tampa Bay rays dont have a chance at a free agent like Ohtani. In baseball and Basketball 80% of the teams are anonymous. People literally get offended when smaller teams get a free agent or win.
Its stupid to say the Yankees or Mets never went after or attempted to sign ohtani. Ohtani made it very clear he did not want to sign with the Yankees also did not want to go to the east coast. For what ever personal reason it was, it was his choice. Ohtani also said that any team that leaks meetings would have no chance of signing him. The Dodgers leaked their meeting and yet that is where he went. Which tells you two things. One, Ohtani is a liar and two, that is where he had every intention of going. He took the bluejays for a ride.
