So many people work so hard to raise their families...yep this made me cry from deep inside...I took away something I needed.."What is your DREAM that no one can take away"...I have many...but I am 71 years old now and think the way time flies...I should focus on just one...and will after some prayer and deep meditation on such!
I love this movie. Jane Fonda was wonderful playing Gertie. It made me teary eyed. Story is so true to life. The Appalachian people, suffered from poverty and hardships, yet they remain strong in faith and work hard. Love to visit Tennessee and Kentucky someday.
Saw this on a Sunday afternoon back in the early 90s. Went up my grandparents house and it was on tv. All i remember was the train scene and funeral - spent YEARS trying to find out what this movie was called. Talking to the wife about just now and thought I’d try Reddit and someone already asked the question about a film with a little girl who loses her legs on the railway line and dies. Came straight here to find it… not sure I’ll ever watch this movie again because that railway incident stayed with me (I’m 38 now) but at least it’s good to put a name to this movie and put my decades long question to bed.
This movie was the story of my Gran's life! My Grandmother came from Oklahoma in a Conestoga wagon to settle in the Santa Clara Valley of California in the early 1900's. Her story was always in her hands. The permanent calluses, the strength that ran through them, she gave them to me. With these hands I have made part of my living creating whimsical creatures and dolls out of clay, wood, and plaster. The veins on the back of my hands look like a road map of my ancestry, and when I look at them closely, I see the wagon my Gran came on, the teachings of her life through me... she was my inspiration and my salvation. Thanks Gran.
This is one of my favorite movies of all times. I love the simplicity of it's heart felt message. It impacted me so deeply that I remembered the title, and it has been over 30 years since I've seen it. This was the performance of a lifetime for Jane Fonda and will remain in my heart forever. Her characters tremendous strength, passion for life, unshakable values, even in a city and circumstances that would rock anyone's core, make it a family values masterpiece. They don't make movies that touch our spirit like this anymore, maybe it they did the would be a more loving and compassionate place.
My mom had this film on VHS in the 80 was when I was a kid she always watched it and I watched it too and even though an old film and i was only about 8 myself when I saw it I loved it and still do , brilliant film and I love Jane Fonda but when Cassie gets hit by the train and loses her legs I still have to skip past that bit and after watching it that part always played on my mind
Like so many other viewers here, I also saw this movie many years ago, when it first came out, and have never forgot about it. Seeing it available here now is such a treat. I was a teenager when I first saw it and loved it then. Now as a mother of grown children and grandchildren I cant help but be even more deeply touched by the morals of this timeless story. This movie is truly a gem in these times were films and the world seem to have decreased in quality and value.
I saw this movie many years ago and have never forgotten it because it reminded me of my own mother who grew up in rural Tennessee in the 1920's. I cried for days after watching it though. My mother was a gentle but strong, smart & talented woman just like the one Jane Fonda portrays here. To me this is Jane Fonda's best movie and one of the best I've ever seen.
So was mine. During the big Depression of the 30's on a farm in North Dakota. My parents had 10 kids, and we damn near froze to death. Outdoor toilet, we sat on ice lined holes, and the snow was up to my knees. Fonda is one of the wealthiest women in this country, so she was miscast here. Mom made all of the girls clothes. She was a wonderful seamstress. Why cry about it? She left us a legacy, we will never forget. Not a bad word came from her. What a saint.
My adoptive mother graduated high school in 1933 during the Great Depression, then married her high school sweetheart right after Pearl Harbor and the entrance into World War II. He later died of colon cancer when they were both just forty-nine. Overall I would say she lived a hard life with more than her share of heartache but she rarely complained and maintained a sense of humor and wry wit when others would have been brought repeatedly to their knees. She was and still is my heroine, although she's been gone two decades next year. If she saw today's world and its lost values I doubt she would know what to make of it.
i am glad you had a heart warming loving mother gayle smith...my story is best for a stephen king novel..but one always hopes for better..which i tried to be most kind and loving..mother and person to my children..love this movie..my grandma was very kind and productive...still choppin wood in her 50`s and great grandma ran her own farm 80`s..by herself chop head off chickens ..get the corn green beans potatoes etc.. all in her back yard as we showed up to visit..a city kid..i was shocked to say the least..and then..an outhouse? marion,ill..where she lived..if i cry it`s for the love we never had from our mother and only saw great grandma twice..with my grandma..i attribute her being kind by not abusing us..still never a hug or words of love..never a small gift for anything,,,ever
I'm almost 65 and I'm still chopping wood, planting my own garden, shoveling my own snow. Don't buy new clothes, always second hand. My mom is 93, still swims 3 times a week at the "Y", cleans her own house, drives on the Freeway and makes all of her food from scratch like she taught me to but she does buy her clothes now unless they need altering, then she does her own sewing. Hell of a lady and she's just a little shite. Mom had 5 children that lived out of 7, sewed ALL of our clothes, cooked, canned, did it all unlike most people today. Always hung her clothes on her clothesline until her late 70's when Dad finally convinced her to get a dryer. She still misses that fresh smell from hanging the clothes outdoors. This movie was epic to me, I laughed and I cried, thank you for uploading.
I love this movie so very much!!!! Lost count of how many times I have watched it but I find myself bout every few months R so pulling it up 2 watch again!!!! Jane Fonda hope you got a award 4 this movie!!! Cuz u sure deserved 1 ':: 4 it!!!!! 2 any 1 who hasn't seen this movie ur missing out on a truly wonderful movie!!!!!
This movie mirrors my mother's own story. Born and raised in Pikeville, KY, the daughter of a coal miner and moonshiner, she and her mother and siblings left the region to move to Detroit where her mother worked in a car factory. She died at 37 when my mother was only 16. She met my father and found out that by digging in the Michigan clay that she had the talent of sculpting. My father took this talent and learned how to make master molds in order to duplicate her art into plaster (chalkware) statues. As the oldest of six children, we learned to paint and decorate the statues and my father sold them on gas station corners and eventually, the flea market. We evolved our manufacturing process to include other home decor and gift items and eventually sell our products to Walmart and Spirit stores.
Brings a tear to my eyes ,no more Callie -loo , and when MoMA said “a body has to have something off their own “ and then what happens !! it’s a beautiful humbling movie ! Thank you for sharing !
Another person who saw this movie back in 1984. Sheer luck that I heard about it 40 years ago and after years of looking for it here I am watching it for the 2nd time. This movie needs to be rediscovered. I love Jane Fonda even after the ham-handed way she protested the Vietnam War. That was a war with no winners. She was young and handled the situation in an unfortunate way, which she recognises now as a mature woman. She was acting out of compassion for all concerned.
For the thousands of 'poor' Appalachian families who made their way into the cities...only a few ever actually came home to the mountains. Much of our culture stopped being handed down and was lost to coming generations. For those of us old enough to remember being raised this way...this story can reduce a soul to tears. An emotional narrative that makes me heartsick for a time, a place and a people that scarcely exist anymore.
how amazing to have these experiences,Ireland my country has lost much of the very same,I had a tin bath where we would all bath in on a friday,no running water we would collect in a pump, outside loo ,sq of news paper as loo role.ah so simple ,yes as we get older we do reflect some.
jane the fitness person, levon the drummer of the band....both did superb acting here....i am sooo impressed with both...it is now 2023, first time i have watched this movie.....did henry, her father ever comment on her acting here?....i kept thinking of pa joad....very powerful movie indeed.....
I saw this movie when it first came out and bought it many years later when it came out on dvd. It is THE best movie Jane Fonda acted in. She should have received an award. Gertie is a strong woman and her fierceness has remained with me for years.
Rentalsin Elko I didn’t know this came out on DVD. I was told it didn’t. I sure wish I could find it on dvd. It would be great with Jane Fonda’s commentary
The scene where she axes the sculpture of Jesus(that looks like the Buddha) , the expression on Jane Fonda's face , her entire demeanor rising the axe over her head and making that split says all anyone needs to know about her ability as an actor. Bravo !
In 1984 I lived in Central California where I was raised. I remember watching this film. Sometime life has funny way of giving you a hint. By the end of 1984 I had moved from California to Flint Michigan. I lived in Michigan for 15 years.
I know. I think it's one of her best. Too bad her dad made her feel insufficient. Henry Fonda was a great actor, so was his daughter, Jane. I hate that her dad found it hard to show his feelings toward her. That really hurt her. Of course I loved her dad, too. May he R.I.P.
OMG Jane Fonda at her finest!! I love her. This movie is so heartwarming, tragic and just plain wonderful at the same time. Real life is not all fantasy and happiness, it's hard and painful and only by the grace of God do we find out what is worth having.
Wow, this is a wonderful historical movie...I lived in North Caroline, Boone for several yrs..and still nothing has changed much..I learned how to weave at Mr. Carlson shop..which is no longer and make baskets..and going to folklore shows to sells them...was entertained in Miss Piggy Bar..with the same kind of music..and wore the long dress and boots..this is the mountain life style of the community with the girls...this movie sure brought back memories....you all a nice day now...lol...
Levon was a great actor... and even greater musician.....I'm proud to be from the same neck of the woods. If you ever met him, he was always just like Clovis in the movie.....RIP brother, you were a helluva man.....I think this is the 1st movie I've ever watched with Jane Fonda and have to say she was brilliant in this movie.......God Bless
Who is the doll maker that is so creepy I wonder who is it cuz people is getting weird dolls about it and it was really weird I want to really more people that has oh my gosh
I remember seeing this movie many years ago, and it left quite an impression on me. I think that this movie is even more relevant today as it was back then. It was very inspiring and heartfelt. A family going thru hard times and enduring so much heartache, but triumphing over adversity, with love and faith. :)
Great, great, great, movie, Jane Fonda did give her best in this one... I grew up in Montgomery Alabama, and I miss the countryside, My granddaddy had a farm, where I tossed, and helped around with the cattle and such, and man oh man, I wish I just wish those good old days were back, yes they were real hard days, but children grew up with values... the world has become a Detroit
Thank u for sharing. reminds me of my own mother but not that we lived in the mountains for mothers can and will be very strong no matter the place come from
This made me have so much empathy for women in poverty, like Gertie: loving mother, accommodating wife, did everything she was expected to, always put the needs of her family first. Yet had so little freedom or choices or power over her own life.
Wonderful movie, it should remind us all that sometimes we think we are poor and we are actually rich in the things that really matter. Thanks for posting this.
I just came here for the train scene. It traumatized me when I saw it as a child. I remember it being way more graphic but it must have been my juvenile mind.
I also remember there was a bit where they show Casey's startled reaction and shreak just before the impact. But still no worse images than blood and a white face.
I have thought about this movie for so many years and hoped it would come on tv again some time. So glad I found it on youtube. I think this role and her role in Walk On The Wild Side are Jane Fonda's best work. Levon Helm is just wonderful. And the kids in this movie were fabulous.
yrs ago we left kentucky and moved to florida ,,was not my idea but i had a husband who was alot like clovis,,hard headed and i went along with it all,,we spent 10 yrs in florida and i would get so homesick i would just cry myself to sleep,,i missed my family and kentucky,,so you can imagine what this movie did to me,,alls well that ends well and we came home and still together so like gertie it had a happy ending..thanks for putting this on you tube,,great movie and so real,,
Preparing for this role, Jane Fonda went on tour with Dolly Parton after they shot "9 to 5" and Parton introduced her to "country folk" as they traveled. Fonda eventually stayed with an elderly Appalachia couple for several weeks, helping with chores and learning the rhythms of their culture..
GOOD LORD THANKS FOR THIS MOVIE AM 43 YRS OLD WITH A 23 YE OLD SON, LET ME SAY TO ALL MOTHERS/WOMENI SALUTE YOU ALL BECAUSE I KNOW THEERE ARE MORE JANE FONDA OUT THERE SO PLEASE NEVER STOP OR GIVE UP KEEP ON PUSHING EVEN IF YA GOT A GOOD MAN AT YAH SIDE THO WE STUPID THATS WHY GOD MADE US THIS WAY TO PROVE THAT YOU ALL WOMEN ARRE THE STRONGEEST EVER ON EARTH SO THANKS
Now this is the best Movie I have ever watched!!!!!!👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐! IF Jane Fonda didn't get an Oscar for this performance, THEN SHE CERTAINLY DESERVES IT NOW.! SHE TOOK MY EMOTIONS TO ALL THE LEVELS POSSIBLE. This was absolutely mesmerizing. The new technology may be good while it sparkles---it is Not acting! Thank you Miss Jane Fonda & all the great performances. In this production of "The Dollmaker".
This movie is incredible. . . I see it as a depiction of an historic period in the history of the U.S. as well as the world. . . movement from a mainly agricultural and local "commerce" to industry. My connection to "The Dollmaker" is very personal--becoming oneself through experiences--both accepting and rejecting. . . which seems to be . . . the human experience. Jane Fonda has delivered a very unique "performance"--though I HATE TO USE THE WORD. . ."performance". I'd say that word in capitals. . ! PERFORMANCE!
What days were those ... my mum never contradicted my father ever ... he took all the decisions ... some time ..I mean most of the times he was such a dick head..where as my mum was a soo smart intelligent a very sensible level headed person ...and I think my father knew of his smart wife ... but this poor woman never dictated anything ever ...he was always made feel head of the pride ...even when she was detected with cancer he made such blunders about her treatment ... though we were grown up we were helpless ... bcoz he had sole ownership on her ... and she silently was yes to anything he said... eventually we lost her ... I do love my father he is a good man and he does love us ..but only if he could understand his foolishness and handled his big ego... but we miss our mom she was such an inspiration to me and my siblings ... we badly miss her !
Language is so inadequate to express what we know, believe, think, love, experience, etc but this movie manages to touch so many levels of the Appalachian psyche and human psyche in general!
I read this book many years ago and have never forgotten it. A bit like the grapes of wrath. my favourite book of all time. Women passed on their knowledge to their daughters and men their sons. I am in awe of the women of the old times. My mother was one of those woman. and my father with all his faults. did the best he could. bless those people. xx
winston owen When we watch this movie..Jane Fonda brings her character so much to life that..it makes us think that Gert is a real person. It is hard to believe that Jane Fonda was raised with a silver spoon in her mouth..so unlike her character of Gert..and yet..she makes us think that she completely understands Gert's life of extreme poverty. Jane Fonda and Levon Helm were amazing in this movie. And..I think the child actors were equally convincing in their roles. Just a wonderful movie!!
Absolutely awesome movie! I grew up around people just like Gert & her family. Jane Fonda's performance took me home again, & moved me to tears. Thank you for making this movie available to view again. I have been looking for it for years.
This film won 2 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Costume Design for a Limited Series or a Special and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or a Special - Jane Fonda.
What a great story first time seeing this movie and it's a reminder how much we forget how beautiful life is. Thank you for uploading this and God bless.
i am from a small village outside shanghai and i was raised just like her too....strange how we all can relate to characters in a movie.....its kentucky all over the world...
This is one of the best movies I ever saw. We were lucky to have seen it when it came out and has remained a favourite ever since! Excellent cast, story and acting by all involved.
44:47 Susan Kingsley (Sophronie) , a native of Kentucky, was killed in a traffic accident after being struck head on by another vehicle only months after finishing this film. She was just 37 years old and was survived buy her husband and children. Kingsley lived and worked on the family farm with her husband and daughters in Kentucky while taking acting gigs away from Kentucky.
The finest work Jane Fonda ever did. She created a character so real, so endearing, you absolutely believe she is real. You forget your watching Fonda. I too saw this new, but enjoy seeing it again, I was, and am still impressed at the depth of Gert. Everything revolves around her. Poor Geraldine Page, Perhaps one of the greatest actresses ever, yet she is wiped off the screen by Fonda.
This is the best country film I've ever watched. At first when I saw actors Jane Fonda I was sceptical but was I wrong. I'll never will forget the title! Thank you for the upload!
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. I haven't seen it since I was young. Back in the early '80s we had our first VCR. My sister and I recorded this and probably watched it at least 100 times, or until the tape broke (can't remember which happened first). It definitely brings back good memories from my childhood. Thank you again!
A true picture of the human spirit. Far and away one of the best things Jane Fonda has created. A character and a times that inspires still today. Thank you for uploading such a wonderful film.
My all time favorite movie! It's currently available to buy on Ebay & Amazon on DVD & even VHS. Just type in : "The Doll maker, Jane Fonda " in the search box & you'll find it. I bought 3 copies because I never want to be without this masterpiece. New Year's Eve, 2019.
I saw this when it debuted on TV long ago and fell in love with it...been wanting to buy it for years. Thanks to your comment, I went to Amazon, but I see multiple people saying the quality is terrible. I see 3 vendors on Amazon: importcds, megahitrecords (Fufilled by Amazon), and Moviesplusmore, is the quality of what you purchased good (better than this upload), and if so, do you know from whom on Amazon you got yours? If the quality is poor, might as well just watch this....
@@aurafice I'm sorry, but don't remember who I purchased The Doll maker from. It's been a few years ago & one copy was really bad. I was fortunate enough to find 2 original VHS tapes & was so happy to get them. I have a VHS/DVD player that's very valuable to me for this very reason. Often, DVD copies are bootlegs & poor quality. Keep watching & you'll find it. On Ebay, you can save your specific searches & they will notify you when something is available. I've learned the hard way to check out a seller's feedback before buying as other buyers rate & comment on their purchases. Keep looking & I believe you'll find a great copy. 🌹🌹
So many people work so hard to raise their families...yep this made me cry from deep inside...I took away something I needed.."What is your DREAM that no one can take away"...I have many...but I am 71 years old now and think the way time flies...I should focus on just one...and will after some prayer and deep meditation on such!
Thanks for the classic movie. Love it every time I watch it.
I love this movie. Jane Fonda was wonderful playing Gertie. It made me teary eyed. Story is so true to life. The Appalachian people, suffered from poverty and hardships, yet they remain strong in faith and work hard. Love to visit Tennessee and Kentucky someday.
I am eighty two years old and brought up in south Chicago. And this movie brings back so many memories. Racism, steel mills etc

Totally agree
HI
She sooooo resembles her father, the great Henry Fonda, in this performance, without the glam makeup of so many of her other movies!

Tina if you are someone's gran, those little ones must be very young young ones .. and young. Keep up your standards.
My mother is from Pike County Ky
I spent enough time there to say that Jane devoted a whole year living with a family in Ky to learn the dialect.
I saw this movie many years ago and have never forgotten it because it reminded me of my own mother who grew up in rural Tennessee in the 1920's. I cried for days after watching it though. Gayle Smith, you should write a bio about your mom and her life in Tennessee, I write movie scripts and love those types of stories.

A beautiful, emotional story and film. Superb acting all around. I have not enjoyed a production like this for many years.
Brilliant. Remember watching it with my mom as a child. Has always stayed with me. What a film.

I saw this movie as a child and the child dying still haunts me.
Especially now having children - I have nightmares about this.

BECAUSE OF RACIST BIGOTED PEOPLE LIKE THAT CRUEL TEACHER WHO HAD rUBEN BEATEN
Thank you for this movie..I was thrilled to see it listed..yeas ago ,
Sad for the wise, persecuted and annihilated indigenous - perhaps these people could have learned from them.
A Trip To Bountiful is another film that explores this topic as well.. it came out around the same time
jane the fitness person, levon the drummer of the band....both did superb acting here....i am sooo impressed with both...it is now 2023, first time i have watched this movie.....did henry, her father ever comment on her acting here?....i kept thinking of pa joad....very powerful movie indeed.....

If you are blessed enough to have a good family stay with them.
Great movie thanks for the upload great acting i loved this movie i can remember seeing it years ago 💕💓💖💞💯⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
In 1984 I lived in Central California where I was raised. I remember watching this film. Sometime life has funny way of giving you a hint. By the end of 1984 I had moved from California to Flint Michigan. I lived in Michigan for 15 years.
this has got to be one of the best movies I have ever seen, Jane Fonda is phenomenal
I know. I think it's one of her best. Too bad her dad made her feel insufficient. Henry Fonda was a great actor, so was his daughter, Jane. I hate that her dad found it hard to show his feelings toward her. That really hurt her. Of course I loved her dad, too. May he R.I.P.
@@skylite5329 Yes. Plus Henry Fonda was a great Actor indeed.Take it you've seen 'On Golden Pond'.
OMG Jane Fonda at her finest!! I love her. This movie is so heartwarming, tragic and just plain wonderful at the same time. Real life is not all fantasy and happiness, it's hard and painful and only by the grace of God do we find out what is worth having.
I'm impressed with both this video and the book which came out when my Dad was growing up two years before my Mom was born ❤
That was a nice story.
Also, is this North Caroline then? or Carolina.
@@josephinamanuel3702 Jane Fonda's character is the dollmaker because she hand-carves toys out of wood. There's nothing creepy about it.
The Lord sents you always what you need ,in heavenly ways,he never see his good faithful people with out !
One of the all time best movies and probably Jane Fonda's finest performance.
Prima donna
Outstanding film, deserves a dvd release.
Seen this movie at least 20 times .... A gem that doesn't get old !!
I live in southeast Texas Piney woods area. i have a small simple farm and am a widow and I struggle everyday. I completely relate to this movie.
I have thought about this movie for so many years and hoped it would come on tv again some time. So glad I found it on youtube. I think this role and her role in Walk On The Wild Side are Jane Fonda's best work. Levon Helm is just wonderful. And the kids in this movie were fabulous.
I saw this movie many years ago and it still remains one of my favorite movies. Jane Fonda was superb in this role. Thanks for posting.
Thankyou God for lessons we can learn from this movie. Profound in humility and love of family and God

yrs ago we left kentucky and moved to florida ,,was not my idea but i had a husband who was alot like clovis,,hard headed and i went along with it all,,we spent 10 yrs in florida and i would get so homesick i would just cry myself to sleep,,i missed my family and kentucky,,so you can imagine what this movie did to me,,alls well that ends well and we came home and still together so like gertie it had a happy ending..thanks for putting this on you tube,,great movie and so real,,
Preparing for this role, Jane Fonda went on tour with Dolly Parton after they shot "9 to 5" and Parton introduced her to "country folk" as they traveled. Fonda eventually stayed with an elderly Appalachia couple for several weeks, helping with chores and learning the rhythms of their culture..
+Nurse Grace
Yeah, I read about that in Fonda's autobiography, and found that particularly interesting. She's a perfectionist, that's for sure.
I'm sure she silently judged that couple while they shared what little they had with her.
@@weareeverywhere7225 as you verbally judged her , hypocrite

Jane Fonda touched your deep soul with her acting, she was made for the role. Great movie, thanks for sharing it!💚💜💙
This is such a beautiful movie. Jane Fonda is as authentic in her portrayal of this brave woman as her father was as Tom Joad.
I’ve never forgotten this film.
All these years later
Now this is the best Movie I have ever watched!!!!!!👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!
IF Jane Fonda didn't get an Oscar for this performance, THEN SHE CERTAINLY DESERVES IT NOW.!
SHE TOOK MY EMOTIONS TO ALL THE LEVELS POSSIBLE.
This was absolutely mesmerizing.
The new technology may be good while it sparkles---it is Not acting!
Thank you Miss Jane Fonda & all the great performances. In this production of "The Dollmaker".
Every year my father and I would watch this movie .
excellent, all should view it. over 24 yrs ago i 1st saw it
This movie is incredible. .
A strong & valuable Story. Am so glad I watched it now. Thankyou.
Read most of the positive comments and decided to watch this movie, and was not disappointed. Great movie
It is a movie you can never forget. Jane Fonda has never been better and she has had a number of good roles.
Thankyou, I haven't seen a movie with this much heart and soul for ages.
My mother was one of those woman. and my father with all his faults. did the best he could. bless those people. xx
The performance of a lifetime. Thank you so much for posting! 🙏🏻❤️ Family
This is Jane Fonda's and Levon Helm's best movie. They portray the types of people I knew when I was young.
winston owen When we watch this movie..Jane Fonda brings her character so much to life that..it makes us think that Gert is a real person.
This is how people used to respond to their trouble. See how SOFT we are now!? Great movie. Make of your life a struggle against evil.
Absolutely awesome movie! I grew up around people just like Gert & her family. Jane Fonda's performance took me home again, & moved me to tears. Thank you for making this movie available to view again. I have been looking for it for years.
MY MOTHER WAS FROM ASHEVILLE , NORTH CAROLINA THESE ARE MY PEOPLE BEAUTIFUL STORY
This film won 2 Emmy Awards for Outstanding Costume Design for a Limited Series or a Special and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or a Special - Jane Fonda.
Thank you so very, very much... this world needs love and kindness desperately.
Terrific film with a masterful performance by Jane Fonda.
What a great story first time seeing this movie and it's a reminder how much we forget how beautiful life is. Thank you for uploading this and God bless.
I saw this movie as a little kid too and am 33 years as well now, and still traumatized when I see traintracks. Excellent movie
Excellent movie. It is so good to finally see Jane Fonda in a film that does her justice!:)
i am from a small village outside shanghai and i was raised just like her too....strange how we all can relate to characters in a movie.....its kentucky all over the world...

This is one of the best movies I ever saw. We were lucky to have seen it when it came out and has remained a favourite ever since! Excellent cast, story and acting by all involved.
please keep putting on old movies starring Jane Fonda great stuff to watch always loved her
Wow I recognized that cabin right away!!
This was such a great movie, what a strong and resilient women she was. She was the backbone of her family...tfs
Never thought I would ever get to see this again , thanks for posting
44:47 Susan Kingsley (Sophronie) , a native of Kentucky, was killed in a
traffic accident after being struck head on by another vehicle only
months after finishing this film. She was just 37 years old and was
survived buy her husband and children.
Kingsley lived and worked on the family farm with her husband and daughters in Kentucky while taking acting gigs away from Kentucky.
A beautiful movie with great acting all around. An especially fine performance by Jane Fonda.
I Love these older movies.
Thanks for sharing.
Vous êtes une grande Dame Jane, Je vous ai vu sur THÉ OU CAFÉ, VOTRE FRANÇAIS EST IMPECCABLE MERCI POUR CET ATTACHEMENT A LA LANGUE DE MOLIÈRE.
One of the best actress miss Fonda,!!!
And still going until today.
Beatifull movie.!!!!
I was reading the Dollmaker and I quickly dropped the book because of Cattie Lou's death on the Railroad tracks
It made me so Sad.
I liked the movie a lot they reminded me when me where there is a will there are rewards that last a lifetime.
I love this movie! One of Jane Fonda’s beat movies if not the best! Definitely my favorite
sure wish I had a home to go to. These people are richer than most today. Most of us haven't got a home
It takes a deep-hearted woman to play this mother's part...and that is Jane Fonda! What a gal! 🌟
Just one really great movie,, hands down!! 🇫🇷💞💋
I too, saw it years ago and it is what made me love Jane Fonda!
A true picture of the human spirit. Far and away one of the best things Jane Fonda has created. A character and a times that inspires still today. Thank you for uploading such a wonderful film.
I LOVE watching movies like this,,Thanks so much,
What a fantastic movie !!!!!!😊 Thank you so much for posting it !!!!!!!!!!!
@@jeannejett2299 Thanks for the reply! And smart keeping the DVD/VHS combo player!
