The Cubs are like this too. The starting pitching keeps them in games, and the lack of offense loses them. For whatever reason Wrigley Field is packed even though they are in last place in one of the weakest divisions in MLB. While I don't live in Seattle, for someone in upper management act like they were doing the fans a favor that seems like a huge slap in the face to Mariners fans.

As my dad said the Mariners are like the early 2000s Astros. Their pitching is elite but if the other team could just score 2 or more runs it would be over.

The problem with the Mariners is that no hitters want to sign. It’s extremely lonely in Seattle and the ballpark is a death trap for hitters
Regarding Seattle and the bad offense historically - look at Adrian Beltre from his breakout 2004 with LAD before signing with Seattle. He was so far from his 2004 year during his time there but once he left them, he went right back to having stats similar to his 2004 year, in the season he had with the Red Sox and then the rest of his career with the Rangers which definitely helped him be the first ballot HOF he became. He would never come close to the HOF if he had stayed in his Seattle form.
So pretty much being a mariners fan is like being an angels fan but instead of the pitching being abysmal the hitting is

As a Rangers fan, Mariners are one of the teams I actually want to see succeed. They really shouldn’t let this team they currently have go to waste. It’s one of the better teams they’ve had in decades.

AL West this year reminds me a lot of the way the AL Central usually is. There’s always one outlier that takes it all home when the rest of the teams aren’t as good. Houston is rebounding though. Let’s see if Seattle can survive. Their pitching is elite but will their bats emerge eventually. Just saying they could have used a guy like Teoscar.

Man the Mariners could draft pitching (Kirby, Gilbert) but could not develop/draft hitting. guys like Jeff Clement, Dustin Ackley, Kyle Lewis, Evan White, Jarred Kelenic who were top prospects for example stunk.

Despite all this, I hope and pray for another team to win their first title. The Mariners aren’t out of it, but the AL is just insane this year. It was great to see what the Rangers did last year. It would be great for baseball if something like that happened again.

@@zezozose66 yeah they just are not built to be a HR hitting team and their ballpark is huge. Why would you try and hit homers when they are a small market and cant afford the big boppers anyway?! They can still hit for power, but itll just be doubles (mainly triples) in Seattle, and theyll get their home runs on the road in Houston and in the AL east parks

Jared Kelenic is doing well for the Braves. He’s really taken to hitting at the top of the order. If he were still in Seattle he’d be leading the team in OPS.

Watching Mariners hitters is a cringe fest. They swing at pitches they can't hit, they don't seem to have any idea what pitches they will see, don't seem to have an approach to hitting that puts them in a position to hit, and apparently don't have the ability to "see" what the pitch is. They can't hit fast balls, curve balls, sliders, or change ups.
I don't recall many MLB players who cannot hit fast balls....

🤓👆 Actually the Mariners' pitchers don't have huge K numbers on the whole. Their bullpen is 8th in the league and their starters are below average (21st). Their real trick is how well they limit walks & hits.

Just recently Teoscar Hernandez was interviewed about his time in Seattle. Stated that the batters eye at TMobile Park messed him up. & recently it’s been going around that the batters eye wall past center field isn’t aligned to the pitchers mound, as the sight deception is way off. Teoscar stated that other players know this. This could be the underlying issue with anyone unsuccessfully hitting at TMObile Park
