What a fantastic tutorial! You cover so much that a novice like me wouldn't consider (and other videos don't), and it makes a huge difference to the look of the finished product. Thank you :)
Excellent tutorial. You showed a couple steps in the green screen process, like getting rid of the noise inside the subject, that I was not aware of before. Many thanks.
Great tutorial man! One thing I like to do while keying is to click on the viewer settings top right and uncheck "smooth resize". This way you can really see the individual pixels which is important when working on the alpha and such. Maybe this tip is helpful for somebody, cheers ✌️
Great video, thank you! As Casey mentioned, alot of making green screen work is blending the subject and background together so they belong seamlessly. Understanding the camera settings and lens will also help in that regard, if you have access to a camera, see what happens when you're changing lens types and how that alters the background when framing your subject. If the person you filmed on green screen was on a 50mm lens, Aperture of F2.8, then the background needs to reflect those camera settings similarly. There's alot of things cameras are doing to footage that you want to be aware of and also to replicate over to the background. Things like the Grain Noise that was mentioned, chromatic aberration, halation, etc...
Thank you Casey! You went into areas that no one has done before that will make our productions so much better. I'll be ordering your advanced course pronto!🙂
I followed video, and got perfect green screen....the actual method for green screen...i would say its professional green screen editing tutorial. Good Bro
This was spectacularly fortunate and well timed! I’m just keying out some footage for the very first time, and this has filled in the missing information I was after. Thank you!
This was awesome, thanks so much! Learnt a ton - I also recently discovered the power of depthmaps, which come built into Fusion as well, which would help with the blur of the background - though in this particular case, the difference between the wall and front of kitchen would probably be negligible, but still - can really help with selling the lens blur effect rather than having everything in the background at at the same blur intensity.
Hi Casey, As usual amazing tutorial! I've been looking for tutorials where I can learn how to track greenscreen with tracking markers but I haven't found a single tutorial online for davinci resolve resolve. Would you be able to do a tutorial on it or suggest me if I can find anyone who has a tutorial like that? Thank you!
Amazing explanatory video as usual in your channel, great. I learned a lot from you. I have another batch of cleaning bad greenscreen shooting. Now the question: can DaVinci Resolve w/fusion compete with runway my on this? Please master, advise. Because I starting to love Davinci and wanted to invest in the paid version but this AI runwayml seems to be promising.
Casey: I know you made this video about a year ago but I wonder if you still prefer NeatVideo’s denoise plug-in over that of Topaz AI’s denoise plug-in. Great video on green screen keying in DaVinci Resolve.🙏🏼
Hi Casey! I love your tutorials and attitude! If I already know resolve very good on every page for a medium level, And want to take my skills to the really next level, but on everything- Should I buy the 'end to end' course, or other course packages?
Hi Casey. bro you change the color of the background for the image. if I want to do the opposite, where should I add the Color Corrector ? The background is fine
Hey Casey, I have a bit where I put myself in a kitchen, but try to put myself behind the kitchen counter. I am able to do it by cropping the background down over the background and I place myself between the two...but it's not a very good look perspective wise. I'd love some pointers on how to do that correctly.
The "native" noise reduction in Resolve was soooooo slow, I bit the bullet and put out the cash for the V5 guy you recommended. It, too, was soooooooo slow. It made it impossible to edit in the timeline even with the cache turned on and all blue across the top. I took the original 5 minute clip into Fusion, applied the noise reduction, and rendered it as an intermediate mp4 file. A 5 minute video file took almost 30 minutes to render. Is my computer a dog or am doing something wrong here?
@@CaseyFaris I was afraid you we goig to say that. Unfortunately, this is the only one that I could find to fit in the "workstation" (1/2 height form factor). So, apart from replacing the whole machine ($3500), I'm kinda stuck pre-processing the video to create a new MP4 file to work with ... if that even works. Maybe the process of rendering to MP4 puts the noise back in that I just removed. 😞
it's a plugin by neatvideo you have to purchase. For Davinci Resolve it is at 89.90 would have been nice to have that info in the video and not just rushing over it with just "it's a plugin"
Love it Casey! Excellent topic and just enough "extra" (color management, noise reduction, matte control, masking, etc) to really further the understanding of the program as a whole. Pacing was quick, but I like it that way. One can always pause, backup and replay, so no need to make it any longer. Giving Canon a little love was a nice touch, too. :) 5/7
Nice one Casey. Just a question about ACES workflow. If the CG is rendered out in ACES CG colour space, then would you replace the Davinci Wide Gamut to AP1 colour space with ACEScct gamma? As in instead of working in Linear Gamma, would we work in ACEScct? Or would we still key in Linear, and then convert to ACEScct and then merge with the ACEScg background?
So useful thank you! I've just bought your 2 courses on Compositing and looking forward to moving away from After Effects! I'm assuming you cover stuff like light wrap and haze? Cheers, Bob
Love the video, thank you as always, where do you get the Reduce Noise V5, when I google it says it should be in color open effects but I only have Remove Noise (RN). I'm on the free version of Resolve btw. Thank you again #CaseyFaris, great tips as my previous green screen work was terrible.
was about to mention this, because that green screen in the video looks like a professional would be able to do, but no hobby youtuber. I still may resort to the 3D-Keyer. Not as professional but much easier to handle for me.
So I'm a little confused when you select the delta key color picker for green screen then you select the green color with the display LUT on does davinci actually pick the color of the log version since fusion is working in intermediate. I'm a little unsure as I've heard greenscreeen works better on a rec709 image but here fusion only has access to log footage during the fusion processing? For this workflow. Be great to hear your insight, essentially deltakeyer working in davinci intermediate trumps keying an rec709 image?
The keyer picks the screen color at the location you pick of the image you're feeding into it. It's good practice to just bring up the keyer itself in the viewer. It won't sample the LUT color, it would be log. For keying 709. I've had better luck with log footage actually. A bigger color space is usually better. You could also key in intermediate or linear and that would work well. Id probably not do 709.
I have my nodes set up exactly like yours and my background doesnt show up after plugging in the media 2 and merging it. I have followed each and every step but still no background?
Thanks Casey!! Another great video. Wondering if you had any advice for me here. If I download a video from the web and add it to Davinci no issues. Seems though that any video I capture with my Pixel 7 Pro, in 4k, when I try to add it to Davinci it says Media Offline. I have tried everything but seems nothing works. Have you ever run into this?
I just don't get why you'd have to ColorSpaceTransform the happy Green-Screen raw-clip girl *three times* !!! Like, twice in the Fusion page, plus once more in the Color Page, did I count that correctly? What's the deal here?
i have one confusion. before starting any project i put the master setting in the project as 1080 x 1920 hd and while editing I converted that 1080p clip to 2160 x 3840 (4k) via timeline setting . . . . but after that when i click to settings icon the timeline resolution still shows 1080 x 1920 hd however the deliver page shows its a 4k . . .idk why they are different
sry, may be offtopic, but are you working on vertical (portrait mode for TikTok ro smth. like that) footage or just mixing up width and height consistently? nothing to do with your actual problem, sry, I'm just distracted by that.
@@benderocks788 It really would be sweet. Too bad it's not as simple as just cutting it away from the color tab. Gotta trade the raw vid codecs for raw image codecs and such.
