Incredible ident history of Sky One, Jonty! For those viewers that watched Sky One in the UK, it's sad to see that Sky One shut down in 2021. Sky One does have some amazing presentation on the majority of their idents, shall I say? The animations and motion graphics on most of their idents are brilliant. Some of my favourite idents would be the 1989 ident, the 2008 idents, the 2016 idents and the 2020 idents from Sky One. Most of the idents from Sky One are really memorable for viewers in the UK, especially the 2008 idents. The Simpsons variant (the one with Itchy & Scratchy) can be disturbing though.
I really admire the 1984 logo. It's simple, yet advanced at the same time. Honestly, with some minor tweaks, it could work as a logo today. I also enjoy the 1989 logo (I love me some early CGI from Pacific Data) and the 1993 logo (mainly because of the music. Someone's really rocking the saxophone there.)
I agree with your picks. The 1984 logo is beautiful, especially with the Triumph music from Richard Harvey. The 1989 logo has brilliant CGI. Really smooth and clean. The 1993 logo has awesome music. You gotta love the saxiness.

The Simpsons and the WWF were the absolute killer apps for Sky in the early 1990s. Here in Ireland, you bought the "English channels" to watch American telly, lol

Hmmm. I don't think the 1995-1997 logo looks that bad. The 1997 logo is pretty cool, especially the humorous one with the alarm clock. The 1998 logo is epic, mainly because of the impulse tracker-ish music. 2002 one is pretty creative. I remember premiering it with my mum and she said it was kinda cheap. The 2004 logo is quite cool too, due to the punk feeling. I prefer the 2020 idents over the 2017 ident, but the 2017 ones are pretty good, and my favorite variant from the 2017 to 2020 section would probably be the popcorn variant.

Both 1995-1996 and 1996-1997 Sky One logos/idents reminded me of a petrol station fence, especially the 1995 ones. XD
