Most of these old pinball machines I have completely forgotten that I ever played them and would probably never think of them again until I came across them on TH-cam...and then the warm memories come flooding back.
Thanks Joe, we appreciate the kind words, I thought it turned out pretty decent myself! I've got a Flight 2000 I'm going to be working on that's in even worse shape but we'll see how it goes :)
I liked the bubble unwrapping and seeing that new MPU Board. Very nice job with the painting on the gameboard. I do confess that as an owner of two gameboy advance sp(s) the many games under the display glass are eye candy! But I digress. "A big freakin/friggin mess." That's funny since you eventually get it fixed.
We still sell a lot of Gameboy games! This Eight Ball came out pretty nice, I have another one we're going to do pretty soon but it's in much nicer condition than this one....
For vintage tech, I just use IPA at 91% & 50% wintergreen. Just recently I worked on a original NES cartridge, Mega Man 2, used a soft pencil eraser on the contact pads and it worked wonderful after cleaning it with IPA the cartridge worked immediately after a cleaning.
The funny thing about that is on the back of NES cartridges it says not to clean them with alcohol... but if you bought the NES cleaning kit the bottle it came with was nothing but alcohol :) Thank you for watching Spider, we appreciate it!
@@LyonsArcade I have the Performance made kit your mentioned and absolutely it was pure alcohol almost the highest percentage. It burned the finger tips and if you had a hangnail forget about it ouch.
Yellow Brick Road Arcade, what a name! Apparently there was a bar down the street here that had games in it called "Godzillas"... and later "young Americans" probably after the David Bowie song....
Joe's Classic Video Games funny I didn’t even ever think all these years about the song name. Had Playboy, Black Knight, 8-Ball and Haunted House at some point in time. Not sure if they were all there at once. Wish nowadays I had played them more back then when they were newer. Love the videos.
I'm amazed at how many games used interchangeable guts over so many years. Nowadays you're lucky if this year's phone uses the same charging cable as your last phone!
I can cetainly respect how you save this one. I spend hours matching each color, but you would never recoup that time when you sell it. I repainted all the "cream" back to white on my Cyclone which took forever!
The one thing I'd like to spend more time on with them is getting the clear perfectly flat, the slight color variance doesn't bother me too much but I wish I could get it smooth!
How was the clearcoat done? Was it just a light spay or did you put multiple coats, did you sand in between coats? It looks like your method is good and didn’t take long.
We do it quick, usually a medium coat with a spray can keeping a wet edge, then let it dry. Next day wax it up nice, and you're off to the races. It's not like glass or anything, we're just using it as a protectant and trying to keep the playfield looking similar to how they used to look.... we don't sand it, you end up with a playfield that has imperfections but we started with one that was completely destroyed so we're happy with it considering the time spent! Thanks for watching!
You know, I remember actually playing this game at a KOA Kampground near Broken Bow, Oklahoma, probably in 1978 or 1979. At the time they had a pretty large arcade (mostly pinball) that took dimes instead of quarters. It's no surprise that the playfield takes a battering. Doesn't matter how tough the paint is, you've got steel balls rolling around the table. Eventually that's gonna take a toll, even if it takes decades.
Pinball is making a strong comeback..Video games seem to be a bit more scarce as of the last couple years..Im wondering if the upswing in pinball is directly related to the scarcity of video games...Lots of home arcades out there!
I purchased one of these machines that was a re-theme for a demolition company. Then I rethemed it into a led light show/ glow paint pinball. Very unique.. Not sure if its still out there..
@@LyonsArcade I had a problem when I have restoring one playfield 10y before I use small enamel paint for small modell toys when I spray a 2k automotive clear all enamel paint was run from spot ....big problem 😂

I come for the intriguing concept of watching someone fix something....I stay for the colorful commentaries like "We Gon' Make It Ride One More Time!" lol
Hi Joe. I've learned a pile from all your videos. Much thanks! After watching (training) I've touched up my playfield with acrylic paint like above but I'm concerned about applying clear coat. Do you have any videos showing you spray this on and how you deal with it? I've watched some others and they coat the whole thing, sand entire board, buff, etc. Lots of work. I've never seen you do that so I'd just love some help there.
I just spray it on with a can, I showed how I do it once and everybody said I do it wrong so you’ll have to find somebody else to show you how to do that, sorry.
When I use those craft paints for something, I get impatient and use a hair dryer to speed up the process (usually only takes a few seconds depending on how thick it's on) :P
Really interesting so far, is it mostly restoring more then modernizing a bit on the channel ? (Just subscribed earlier here.) Like say changing the lights too warm white or yellow led's for less powerdraw & similar ? Would there be kits/lampboards made for that ? Like an additional small pcb of resistors that mounts into the machine and just sends the same signals at a lower current & voltage ?
Yes we mainly try to make them similar to how they were originally, sometimes we'll upgrade a little bit of stuff. I dont' usually do LED's because I don't really like the way they look on the older games like this, which is mainly all we get in.

I understand that restoring the artwork is not your primary concern. I'll just mention that you can buy electronic color-matching scanners which could save some time over trial and error.
It wouldn't save any time, because you'd still have to mix it by hand. You could order the paint by color code after you scanned it, but that would be more expensive and would take time waiting or traveling to get the paint....
