I'm never in the combine at dusk but I am in the grain cart. 280 Case Magnum on a 1100 bushel cart. Many many wonderful sunsets in September and October. One night we were taking out corn and the Reems' were taking out corn with two of there units right across the fence row. That was a pretty night. I also was in the field with the last blood moon we had. Looked up and man, that was pretty. We farm in Western KY to so it is nice seeing some of our neighbors on video.

I live in a village surrounded by fields wich are owned by two farms, one with around 10.000 hectares and one with about 1.800 and usualy when the combines from the big farm come to harvest they stay here for around 2-3 days (6-7combines) and it's someting special when you heare them at 10-11 PM harvesting,as you said it's quiet, just the combines and the lovley sound of a JD or more tractors from the 8030 series with grain carts, what makes it a bit more special is that you can't heare them during the day

yes 2800 acres is a big field.. im retired now, but i worked as a farmhand on a 25 acre farm when i was young,, and i thought that was big. hehe
it was in northern norway and those 25 fenced in acres made winter silage for 100 goats. in the summer the goats roamed the forest outside the field eating what they liked during daytime, but they came to the barn in the evning and got some vitamin consentrate +some hay-silage while they was milked..
and they stayed in the barn over night and got milked again before beeing let out in the morning.

He looked at me seriously and said Tim it takes at least 40 acres to turn my equipment around, next day I still do not know who plowed me a garden spot but they left wide tracks, and i had one helluva deep plowed garden. Not to produce a crop of 60 bushel soybeans right behind the combine in the same season. This 2,800 acre field produces 5,600 acres of crops in one year. The straw helps keep moisture in the soil and builds organic matter.

The customer in Oklahoma only grew wheat so they would sometimes be in the same field we were cutting & I think the one in western Kansas did the same , they both had over 1500 acres and the one in western Kansas had a sheet printed out showing what each field yielded & other things pertaining to the crops and finally how much he owed I don't know how much the others owed the boss . It was fun until you had to move , I wasn't able to see anything but the tires of the combine
