This lady, I assume, kept looking for places that looked old or bad. She kept fabricating statistics. Wichita has no mass shootings. Little violent crime. Homeless occupy only a couple of blocks. She makes assumptions about construction and architecture. She kept talking about violent crime. This draws in crime, that draws in crime. "I don't know what those lights are, they'll draw in violent crime." Wichita is wonderful, better than her city by an order of magnitude.

I live in Wichita, and this video is a joke.
Violent crime, in reality, is slightly above average for a city of this size, but it's nowhere near being the warzone she's attempting to make it out to be. And yes, we do have a problem with homelessness like any other larger city, but steps are being taken by the city government to alleviate that.
There are plenty of desirable neighborhoods to make a home with little to no crime issues. Even in most of the so-called "bad" parts of town, it's not likely you'll be a victim of a violent crime unless you're involved in illegal activities. She's also bashing Old Town, which, although it has had a few recent violent crime occurrences, is one of the trendiest areas in the city, with plenty of shops, restaurants, and nightclubs.
Contrary to the video's claims, our metro area is experiencing steady population growth, not a decline. This is a testament to the city's appeal and potential for the future. Additionally, most of the boarded-up buildings she pointed out on S. Broadway are being renovated into apartments, further contributing to our city's growth and development.

I moved to Wichita in 2020 and it’s one of the best cities I have ever lived in! I’ve lived in many cities across the country and Wichita has been good to us.
Most of what she drives past are HISTORIC buildings that are being renovated or have plans for renovations. The brick streets she talks about that someone took the time to lay out “to make it look better” have been here for over a century. The streets used to all be brick and *gasp* some streets are still dirt!
Instead of looking up the media-funded “crime statistics” she should maybe look up the history of the city, the values of it’s people.
Yes, there is a homeless population here, just like every other city in our country in 2024. That has more to say about our country as a whole and maybe she should look to help people instead of talking about this town and it’s citizens (homeless or otherwise) like it’s the worst place she’s ever been. Please take your GoPro and opinions to Beverley Hills, and keep them there.
Now, off to watch her Albuquerque video…🤪

I have lived in Wichita 44 yrs. This video narration is beyond inaccurate. Yes Wichita, like all cities have bad areas. Even our bad areas i would have zero problem being in. The downtown homeless problem is because we had a mayor that didn't take care of it. This yr we elected a mayor who ran on a platform of taking care of this. Also the "fenced off" areas around some of those buildings is because they are being remodeled. Our downtown is going through a ton of remodeling of those old buildings. There is literally 1 area that has that homeless encampment which is right by a Lords Dinner which gives them food. I could write a entire essay on how wildly misrepresentating this video. Also our low income is because Wichita is a cheaper area to live. Income needs to be bounced off cost of living. The cost of living is 17% lower than the national average

Before my comment, I wanted to say thank you for taking the time to come see a very small part of Wichita.
I've lived in Wichita for 40 years. Unfortunately, this video is a bit deceiving of life here in Wichita. While the stats you read off may or may not be accurate, like all cities that have a decent amount of people, there is crime.
It appears you only saw a part of downtown and a few streets just outside of the downtown area. The downtown here is older, and a lot of it is unused as many businesses have moved to the outer areas of town. Most of the homeless population is downtown. However, the downtown area, including Old Town, is used during the daytime for farmers markets and other events, which draw many people from all around. On the same note, downtown at night, especially on the weekends, can be unsafe as there are a lot of bars down there that attract very large crowds.
The nicer areas of town are on the east and west sides of town. Like a lot of cities, you have to go away from downtown to see and experience the nicer areas.
I would argue that the east side is the nicest part of the city, but if you ever make it back, please take the time to drive around the city, especially on the east and west sides. The further you drive in those directions, the nicer it gets.
Kellogg takes you from east to west down the middle of the city. 235 goes around the west side. K96 will take you around a large portion of the east side. 135 takes you straight through the middle from north to south.
    😉🙂

The video is spot on and the comments defending Wichita are part of its problem. We have worked and lived downtown Wichita for going on two decades and the cultural decline of the city is obvious. There is an attitude in the city of "love it or leave it" that prevails. There is also an attitude almost as prevalent that "Wichita sucks". There is little inbetween. This polarization has caused little to be done about Wichita's crime and cultural decline. People who try to make positive difference are often smeared or black-listed. We have worked with several out of state businesses and cultural groups to bring culture to Wichita and it was made clear that outsiders are not welcome. If you're starting a restaurant however, you may get a chance. Wichita loves its food. Even the universities over the last 20 years have been gutted culturally. Newman University (once a liberal arts school) is now a tech school. WSU has become an extension of corporate interests. Even KMUW the local NPR station is almost all driven by corporate politics and tuning in offers little information on local community. Wichita is also the home of the worst drivers in the state statistically and the most dangerous place to drive in the state. Just ten years ago driving was a different experience. Now road rage and shootings are not uncommon. In our residential neighborhood over the last few years gunshots have become common. We haven't even mentioned the corruption yet. Downtown suffers from shady developers who stick up shiny buildings and walk away with cash as the structures sit mostly empty. As the video details, many historic buildings are empty and empty space downtown is common. Wichita also suffers from tunnel vision as it looks for a BIG "fix" it turns to shady developers and corporations. Zoning downtown is geared to big ideas while small businesses can't fill the big spaces. If the space downtown was zoned for small business, shops, restaurants-a model like the successful Farmer's Market, downtown might have a chance. Wichita needs to learn that it's the little things that make a city thrive culturally. Don't let the following facts hurt your feelings my fellow Wichitans...
FACTS: Wichita has a total crime rate of 4454 crimes per 100,000 people, which is stated to be 91.7% higher than the national average. This suggests that when comparing Wichita to an average city across the United States, its crime rate is significantly elevated.
Violent Crime Rate: Wichita’s violent crime rate stands at 931 per 100,000 individuals, which is 151.7% higher than the national average for violent crimes. This places Wichita within the lowest 10% among cities reporting violent crimes last year, indicating that it experiences a notably high incidence of violent crime compared to other cities.
Property Crime Rate: The property crime rate in Wichita is reported at 3524 per 100,000 residents, which is 80.3% higher than the U.S. average for property crimes. This further reinforces the notion that Wichita faces significant challenges regarding property-related offenses.

Oh, Old Town? Yeah that used to be blocks of absndoned old warehouses. It was completely developed in the 90’s. Restaurants, shops, nightclubs, farmer's market, a museum etc. It continues on in the Delano district across the river, another formerly run-down area that’s been developed.
