    Great tutorial again! Cheers man and thank you for the mention. I really like what you’ve done with these techniques, paints and models. The simplicity and the speed of your paint jobs really make them stand out. They are in true signature style. Keep it up!

      Thank you for your comment, really means a lot. And credit where credit is due, the texture effect idea was very nice!

      @@Gravehammer you’re welcome! The red lights coming from the cracks look very spooky, well done. Makes me eager to try it in red on mine as well!

    So glad I found this, just got into warhammer and I like this style over the vibrant color schemes they suggest.

      Glad to hear, really appreciate it! I've never been a fan of the GW style neither, so grimdark it is 😊

    I'm glad that I came across your channel! I'll definitely be following Grimdark style for many of my future minis.

    Really awesome! I would love to see a dark elf or more "standard" fantasy character in your Grimdark style. Interested to see how you can handle multiple textures and materials on a single model.

    I learned a lot watching this - I don't have an airbrush, but I'm sure I can get a good start with chaos black and grey seer spray cans. The use of texture paints on the model was also eye-opening - so THAT's how GW managed to get that effect on their Warcry Chimera pictures?

    • @Gravehammer
      @Gravehammer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fantastic to hear that you learned something worthwhile! Yeah, the crackle effect is very versatile, and I've used it multiple times on my Skaven for example, but after my buddy @katoasapun used it on his NH I wanted to do that also. :)

    Great vid man : ) just trying to learn the grimdark style... i think an airbrush would be helpful but not sure how i could do that in a small condo...

    • @Gravehammer
      @Gravehammer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you use a small particle mask you should be perfectly okay. Acrylics are non-toxic but I would not breathe them still. :)

    Hi, wonderfull paint. I have a problem with black oil wash, what is the proportion between oil and thinner please ? Sorry for my english ... i'm belgium.

    • @Gravehammer
      @Gravehammer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely no problem, I am Finnish! I would say do a mix around 1 part oil and 3 to 4 parts of mineral spirits. The common recipe is 1:3 for wash consistency, but you can always tune it by either adding more spirits or adding tiny amount of oil. Remember to mix properly, it takes a bit of time for the oil to mix in the cup :)

    This is beautiful! Do you thin the paint to glaze consistency with acrylic medium or just water?

    • @Gravehammer
      @Gravehammer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always use acrylic medium or flow improver to thin them down, very rarely water. I find it gives me more control. :)

    @BroadswordWargaming 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Excellent result and a really nice process. Makes me want to buy some to give it a go. 😅
    P.s Do you think this would work well for poxwalkers? Nice zombie ones. 🤔

    • @Gravehammer
      @Gravehammer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely! One option could be just changing the red ink to green ink, and having a black oil wash to unify the transitions. Add some classical elements of Nurgle's Rot and red blisters, and you would have a nice theme set!

    Awesome tutorial! I was wondering, what's the difference between the Abteilung wash and a regular oil wash?

    • @Gravehammer
      @Gravehammer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the comment! Nothing really, Abteilung oils are just designed for miniature painting and have shorter drying period. :)

    Hi, I never used the crackle paint before, will it come off if I touch the model to move it around?

    • @Gravehammer
      @Gravehammer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you let it try properly, it will easily withstand basic handling of the models. I play with these miniatures and no problems so far. 🙂

      @@Gravehammer thanks! , I will do some experiments

  • @frenziedknight7896
    @frenziedknight7896 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would it be possible to achieve this without an airbrush?

    • @Gravehammer
      @Gravehammer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Short - yes, but it will be difficult. The airbrush is there to speed everything up, technically you can do it with drybrush and glazing, following the steps in the video.
      Drybrush white grey zenithal style, then drybrush from bottom to up with darker red. Use oil wash to unify and then glaze with white grey or use Faded White oil drybrushed. Glaze the fluo red transitions and it should be very much doable. :)
