Ngl, I rarely comment, but this video actually reminded me how much love I've gotten for the series since it started, and even though I've dropped it long ago, now I wanna read the end. Regarless it is good ir not, this series was just something for me back then, so thank you for reminding it to me! Go beyond! Plus Ultra!

Y’all be fetishized too much about All Might dying
I say the series benefited greatly by keeping him alive because we got to see more of the man behind the iconic image
All Might can’t even be a superhero anymore, but some of y’all want him dead too?

There is a reason why the mentor figure dying trope is so common in fiction, being that the death of the mentor takes away the support that the protagonist has, with the it forcing the protagonist to go through a character arc to grow into the role of a hero (whether it be physically stronger, or mentally stronger with a stronger motivation or with greater emotional maturity, etc).
Even ignoring how it could of boosted the narrative with character arcs, people thought he should die because he had so many death flags from the beginning. He is missing a lung and is loosing his powers gradually, but he still chooses to risk his life to protect the next generation. It looked so obvious that the author wanted to kill him off in a final fight with all for one in a blaze of glory, but when he choose not to, it just makes him look like a coward that backed out because he didn't want to kill of the most marketable person in the manga.

You already got that with All Might being forced to retire, which dramatically changed the world of MHA. It’s pretty disingenuous to ignore how the world no longer has a OfA powered All Might to protect it just because Toshinori still lives. MHA isn’t a slave to tropes as there’s already plenty of tropes it deconstructs through it’s narrative. It just comes off as death fetishization to say “well it happens in other stories so it should happen here as well” while ignoring the context of what his forced retirement means for the narrative. MHA wouldn’t be MHA if it was a slave to all these tropes that it continually defies. Might as well get upset how Katsuki defied the rival turned evil trope when he rejected Tomura’s offer if following tropes means that much to you.
You really going to act like All Might’s retirement didn’t boost anybody’s character arc? We see how not only Izuku and Katsuki have to adapt to All Might no longer being a pro hero, but the entire world at large from the various perspectives of heroes, villains and civilians. All Mighy himself even gets to reflect on how the state of Japan fell with his heroic absence but got pulled out of his funk by Stain.
All Might being able to live on is a very thematic choice by Horikoshi especially in contrast to All for One. Toshinori spent his entire life giving of himself to help others while All for One spent of entire life disregarding others while only benefitting himself, which diametrically showcases the difference between All for One and One for All. In the end All Might was saved by the legacy he left behind through the teamwork of Izuku and Katsuki while All for One’s legacy resulted in his physical self dying alone while his vestige self got destroyed twice by the same person he manipulated and refused to allow to progress as the next generation. It also reinforces how no matter what AfO does, he can never truly defeat the icon that is All Might and the legacy he left behind. The virtuous weakened All Might being saved by the next generation while the overwhelming All for One gets killed by the next generation he tried to destroy lines up perfectly with the themes of the manga.
Aside from that just the action of having his life saved really does wonders for Katsuki’s character. After Izuku and Katsuki fight we see how Katsuki vents he feels terrible that he was the indirect cause for All Might’s retirement. All Might tells them that they should focus on recognizing each other’s strengths and weaknesses to make each other stronger and “save to win and win to save.” From that point on in the story we see Izuku and Katsuki start to work better alongside each other. This all culminates in Katsuki getting his internal redemption and biggest moment to shine and by saving All Might. We’d lose all of that if Toshinori died in either fight with AfO.

All in All I d say that for a modern shounen MHA did a stellar job.
MHA has been out since 2014, it entered the TOP 10 in 2016 and it is in top 10 until this day, that is an amazing run for a shounen that has been serialized for a decade.
For comparison JJK author is ending the manga in its 6th year, so in MHA language = season 5.5. MHA almost alone took on the torch of being the longer shounen (some could argue Black Clover is in this team, but sadly that manga never really took off the same way MHA/JJK/DS did).
It captured an audience that is different from the JJK/CSM audience, and that IS the genius of Shounen Jump, that even within the genre they divided their target audience and were able to provide a custom made shounen for most. I am honestly sceptical if they will be able to recreate this situation as truly DS-MHA-JJK-CSM were covering all the shounen spectrums and if you were a shounen fan regardless of your prefrence you could say you have been eating well.

i cant say that i genuinely care for the creator of mha. i mean, he literally sexualizes children and justifies it talking about "it's her quirk" (and im specifically talking about momo) and even compared himself to mineta in one of the author's notes. but its not like im gonna go out of my way to straight up harass this dude cause, while i hate him im not tryna live with the guilt of giving someone depression.
anyways, my overall opinion on the show and its ending is that at first, yeah i liked the show and all but as i kept watching it i started to notice all the flaws in its writing especailly when it came to things like the romance, deku and bakugo's toxic relationship, etc, and yeah i still overall enjoyed it but didnt like how dragged out some arcs were.
when the show was ending I began to get very tired of the fighting scenes and i was just reading it for the sake of izuocha being canon, skipping many chapters and just tryna get to the latest chapter. all of that just for him to say "you're my hero" and for deku's friends (including her) to ghost him for 10 years. like, even if horikoshi wasnt gonna make it canon he could've at least given a better conclusion to their relationship, and overall just everything else in the show. depsite all of that the show got me thru some tough times (I spent 2 years being invested in it!) and while it didnt have the best writing, it still holds a special place in my heart

The thing that I find most aggravating about MHA, are the horrendous antagonists. They have some of the weakest motivations I’ve ever heard. There are petty criminals with more personality and motivation than damn near all of the antagonists in MHA.

    • @Mine0Taur
      @Mine0Taur หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I disagree. I find MHAs antagonists to be the deepest, most enganging parts of the story, and sometimes, outright correct. Take Re-Destro, who is the quirk equivalent of a rights lobbyist. Or Spinner and Magne, who were discriminated against. Or Gentle, a clout-chaser in a clout-obsessed world.
All For One is the exception, of course. He is catastrophically bad. But even he was a serviceable plot-driver in Act 1, he wouldn't suck so fucking bad had he stayed in jail.

And I'll let you know, contrary to what you might've thought, I am a massive fan of Toga, Tomura and Twice, the villains who are villainous due to their own inate nature and that of their quirks. They are the height of MHA's world building, examples of the true societal consequence of a paranormal world.
It's Act III's characterization of AFO that I specifically hate. He's so unthreatening, boring and childish that it feels disrespecting to the whole entire work to have him as the "final villain". He is annoying to read.

@@AgentNero9 I still feel like Izuku could’ve done that with One For All. And even though he did inspire people with his actions, my problem is that he never wanted to become a teacher though. He wanted to be a hero and because he gave up OFA, he couldn’t be a hero again until 8 years later.
And I’m still upset with that.

@windghost2 I understand, I personally would've preferred if he ATLEAST had base ofa but regardless I still believe the ending deku got makes sense especially when you take into consideration how the series answered the question from the beginning "can I become a hero like you, even without a quirk"
Being a hero isn't all flashy fights ect
Simply helping people and inspiring them can be a way of being a hero
      It's far more nuanced

for me the community was a big issue, MHA was great and really an amazing anime, even now Season 1 up until All Might defeats All For One is one of the best runs I have ever seen, it is just amazing, probably better than even a lot of the new shows like JJK, or start of AOT, All Might vs All For One and All Might vs Nomu, the arcs were fun, exciting, interesting, the characters were still new, it was just amazing, but then in S4 I felt it was still amazing, but the Eri stuff was kind of dumb and annoying, the Provisional License exam 2nd half of S3 was kind of too rushed and didn't have nearly the impact of like the sports festival which is one of the best arcs in the whole show, S1 and S2 were amazing fully captures you, S3 was not as consistent but had the peak of the entire show for me, S4 established Mirioh as my favourite character, I just rewatched S1-S3 and they are still unbelievably good, still just amazing, and i'm going to rewatch S4 and the rest of the show, but when I watched S4 for the first time Mirioh became my favourite character, he was really a great hero and it was really disappointing, sad, frustrating what happened to him, I don't hate it now but he was my favourite character so it was annoying at the time, and maybe part of the reason I stopped watching? But honestly I think outside of Mirioh having some like Erwin type just unbelievable moments in S4 it was kind of bland, the Eri + Deku OFA was not cool, I really don't like how every single villain is dealt with by either Deku or All Might in the entire show like even the most serious ones that PRO heroes (who are meant to be significantly stronger than Deku) have been chasing for a long time, and are the current biggest threat. I think S4 would have been better if like Mirioh without his quirk still pulled through and won somehow, after Deku had been defeated but it's whatever, pros could have arrived or something, but I didn't like the stuff with Eri. After S4 I stopped watching but a large reason was the community, and the hate towards MHA community leading to liking the show being hard, never rlly though its a bad show or hated it but didn't wanna watch it at that point (now I don't care), i'm gonna watch S5-S7 and the OVA, Specials, Movies etc cuz I still rlly like the show and wanna see what happens, and there definitely still will be more good, still a lot to enjoy before I can judge the ending myself to see if its rlly bad or good, but ye I feel the show didnt capture ppl like it did before there wasnt rlly a reason to keep watching after a ceratin point, even the stuff after all might vs all for one aint that memorable apart from Mirioh like

The negativity and hatred is literally the overblown vocal minority. It's still one of the most popular and liked pieces of fiction to come out of Jump for the last decade. Popularity doesn't climb the way it did for MHA if the negativity around the series was that bad. Its just western fans who either fell out of love with it or have really bad faith takes on a number of things ranging from: the series social commentaries for its world, certain character motivations or just crying over shit that didn't happen that they wanted to happen instead of reading the story we actually got.
For every valid criticism MHA gets it gets an equivalent bad one but that isn't new for this fandom.

The moment you mentioned Bakugo as being good character development lost me completely which is weird because I 100% agree that Deku is a reactive character or if I`m being honest you could replace him with a talking shoe and it would the same amount of impact on the whole story.
All the way to the very end, the way useless Deku was crying about everything and was reactive to everything around him storywise, in the exact same manner Bakugo has been a fuck-up bully and only twisting him 180 for one or two panels into doing one action so the fans think "Oh he changed"
    No

His character development was good tho. he is still loud and explosive as always but isnt as cruel or disrespectful to friends or close allies as before. I like how bakugou noticed and acknoledged everyone's strengths, realizing that he wasn't the strongest and that there are people who are possibly better than him which destroyed his ego internally from the endless praise he got growing up from his powerful quirk and innate ability to learn anything quickly.
You probably might not read this but honestly I disagree and like Bakugo's character development, he didn't just go from "omg im sorry for being a peice of shit i will be a very very nice person and not be as loud as I was before" and instead he became a bit more calmer and still kept his explosive personality.
