- this $250 exhaust job at a muffler shop turned out absolutely AMAZING. I think this is a great sound for the Mercedes SL550 and couldn't be more happy with the thrill of it when I stomp the gas pedal!

Thinks last owner took really good care of the car. Proceeds to show us that his oil pan an transmission pan are missing it's splash shield cause everything to rust slowly🤦😂. Nice car man😎 I have a 08 cls550
Sounds like a v8 now gorgeous. I love how he kept the factory exhaust tips on it, looks factory that's awesome.

"You're going to defile that brilliant piece of German engineering to straight pipe it?!" "No, it's gonna have a resonator and high flow cat... But it's going to sound straight piped" Hahaha
@@zeke7515 I kept the mufflers in the event I want it back to stock. I enjoy the quiet ride, but equally as much sounding like a race car.
Love that model mercedes. I know the feeling of getting your dream car, there is no better feeling of accomplishment. The muffler delete gave it just enough rumble without being obnoxiously loud or raspy.
Do you hear a drone on the freeway at cruising speeds?. This is my only concern and it's stopping me from doing this.
At least you didn't go to "Mexico" for the before and after test and it was an actual private road too, props to you 👍

At least you live in CA and CA is a Desert and they never use Salt on the roads in CA so your cars don't turn to dust infront of your eyes like here in Ohio.. I pay 20/month X 2 so that I and my wife can get unlimited car washes and undercarriage wash to keep all the GD Salt off my cars.

Sounds like my SL55 with the stock AMG mufflers after after you removed your mufflers
Surprisingly mild for just cats and resonators. Sounds good. Your lucky there was no droning as that can be a real annoyance on the freeway. Nice job!
I was planning to add mufflers for that reason, but actually sounds really nice without them!
It's roar is no longer muffled.
Does sound good. Not as good as my Thunderbird with TOR pipes, mind. But it will do :p

I just did the muffler delete on my 2008 burgandy SL550 but instead of rewelding the stock tips I went with a single brushed stainless tips because I had the shop use 3” diameter stainless mandrel piping because with the stock tips it reduced the diameter considerably and didn’t want to choke the exhaust flow. It sounds so mean especially when going wide open throttle but still reasonably quiet when off the throttle. Now I want to change the cat back piping to a full 3” mandrel bends.
Is it only loud when u step on it .. how is the cabin noise .. I don't want it to be to loud
It doesn't bother me at all, and I don't like drone at any level.

I think I'm happy with it! Not planning to do any heavy mods, just appearance probably.
Yeah, once you get used to it you'll be wanting more but it's very quick now so might take a while. I'm thinking about what I can do cheap to my 06 Charger RT to give it more power without destroying the reliability. I did all kinds of things to my Dart cheap back in the day to make it faster and handle better with mostly factory parts from newer and older versions of the platform it was built on. Of course now I want a 5.7 hemi for it😉

Does the resonator delete allow you to hear more pops when letting go of the gas after hitting let's say 3000 rpm? I have an SL500 with muffler delete, sound is great, just want more pops, so was wondering if resonator delete will do the trick. Thanks!
Not really. I’ve had a r129 that had the muffler and resonator removed. I would only here pops when shifting gears in a high rpm, and it was normally one or top pops. Nothing crazy. Now removing the cats would be a different story, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that.

I guess I never understand the logic of buying a luxury car that is supposed to run smooth and quiet and then making it the opposite. You do you!
It's still not too bad. No drone and can barely hear it at cruising. Still has the stock cats and stock resonators.

O completely agree! I loved the project, but hated the ending. What's the point of removing the external amplifier to keep it stock, and then modify the exhaust?

personally i think you would be happier with resonators replaced with a couple magnaflow mufflers. Resonators tend to give a weird "flappy" noise in my opionion
Soooo glad you said this!!! I really want this sound but without the "flappy" noise when you lift your foot. Thought I was the only one bothered by it. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hmm.. As an engineer I say noise is energy wasted, as a speed/acceleration freak I don't care, how does it go, but as me.. Sorry, I personally prefer a less agricultural sound! Mind you, that particular Merc has caught my eye, even though I'm more of a 'pocket rocket' lover, small and fast is where it's at for me.. A Lotus Elise or a PGO buggy with a 600/750cc motorbike engine is more my thing for a 'go out for a quick blast'. Top end is nothing, acceleration is where it's at!

that's what i do with all my cars. Cheap and sounds great. Currently driving a 2010 STS V8 with Muffler delete and Resonator delete sounds amazing.

I noticed the California plate. Have you smogged it after the muffler delete? I’m wondering if it will pass…. Also have you noticed any performance difference?
Muffler has no effect on emissions. Just noise. As long as you have catalytic converters still and no check engine light for O2 sensors failing or misfires it will pass.
If anyone has that front bumper for sale on ebay let me know

Welcome to SL550 club, your car looks amazing. I too am a recent proud owner of this fantastic looking & fun vehicle . I have a cosmetic issue that I was hoping with all of your experiences you might be able to suggest a solution. It’s the 2 pieces of black plastic trim on either side of the rear window. They are badly weathered , any thoughts? I have pictures but cannot arachnid.
Mine is all bubbling up, too. Probably remove the original coating and wrap it gloss black.
@@TheInja I tried to obtain replacement parts and to my surprise both Mercedes US & Canada are out of stock with no idea of when they will get some. We are left with DIY solution. I believe given the out of stock issue that many more SL550 owners are having similar issues. Please give some thought to doing a video on the subject showing both the wrap and paint solutions.
