    Kirti Didwania - you gave an awesome talk. It does not really matter whether the facts are right or wrong. The purpose of Ice Breakers Toastmaster speech is to go stand in front of an audience and deliver your talk in a cohesive and confident manner.
    What others say about you is none of your business. There will be always good and negative comments. Like Thumper's mom says in Bambi to Thumper, "If you cannot say anything nice, then do not say anything at all".
    I am giving my Ice Breaker's speech tomorrow here in Austin.

      If it was fake msg against ur nationality wouldn't it make any difference ?

    • @navdipsingh1641
      @navdipsingh1641 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      By the way, who are you? And what is about nationality here. She did a very good job. That was her personal life experience. By the way, you are not in a position to decide whether its a Fake msg or not.

    Good job. I got the impression that you are a well-rounded, well-educated and well-travelled individual that gives a firm nod to her heritage. I like how you ended the speech with challenge the audience to pronounce your name. I think that allows the audience to pay attention and keep them on their toes. I can tell you this, in my icebreaker, I never used visual aids. so well done on that too.

    If everyone commenting on here is IN a toastmaster group, then SHAME on those of you who are focusing on the WRONG information that Kirti is giving. (Assuming it is wrong)! Who cares! Many speeches made, even by "the greats" contain an element of mistruth, often spoken in "error", so I can only "assume" that those who are commenting on her misinformation (again, assuming it IS misinformation) have made very few to zero speeches themselves. If you are not in a toastmaster group and/or have not given speeches then SHAME on you for commenting at all. This woman and all those who give their first, second, third or one hundredth, do so with COURAGE willing to sustain the butterflies that come knowing you'll be judged and possibly misjudged. The great thing about being in a toastmasters group is that any and all judgment is done with tact, consideration, and respect for the person being critiqued. Sadly not so when you venture onto the world of the internet!

    To all those who are criticizing her for being unaware of the place where Buddha was born: You couldn't follow her what she said! She referred to a place close to Patna and she was giving a perspective to help others locate it easily on the world map. Even if you take the distance between Patna to Lumbini into account it is barely 400 km. Talking to people at Austin which is around 14000 km from her birthplace to give a hint(by introducing Buddha's birthplace) about where she comes from is fair enough.

  • @Rainmakers84
    @Rainmakers84 11 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Speech is clear with a discernible voice. My suggestion would be talk about yourself in a way how you have helped others (the audience) which she touches upon but does not really focus fully. When you talk about yourself in context of the audience, you captivate the audience interest and people want to keep listening to you. Just my 2 cents.

    @wonuto Its 400 kilometers between the places. She says it's close by and I guess that 400 kilometers is pretty close in an Indian perspective.

    Really?? You had to some how find a fault right?? You didn't hear anything other than where Buddha was born?
    Listen to her sentence again, and you will find your assumptions wrong!

    Lord Buddha was not born near Patna. He was born at Lumbini, Nepal( some 150 km north to Gorakhpur). Many Indians have very less knowledge about Lord Buddha. Undoubtedly he got enlightened at Bodhgaya, spread Dhamma from Sarnath(near Banaras, and left his body at Kushinagar(Bihar).

    @sunitapoudel4285 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    hah!! i am not finding out the fault in her speech.......was just pointing out the wrong info she gave. Distance of 438 km between Lumbini and Patna can not be called "near". But anyways felt good that she took Nepal and its national fame to introduce her place :)
    Nevertheless, she gave a good speech :) ! West wishes for her future endeavor.

    Wait wait wait guys, do not just bombard your words on her in relation to her incorrect statement about Buddha's Birth place. Yeah, undoubtedly Buddha was born in Lumbini Nepal & she needs to research more in this regard however as an ice breaker, i found her speech is fantastic. Yes it's her first performance & she's kind of feeling little nervous but overall she has very good clarity in her speech. You've nailed it Kirti.

    The place she actually wishes to "put into perspective " is Bodh Gaya , where Gautam Buddha had supposedly attained enlightment ..(Not Born)
    And yes its about 110 odd kms from Patna , travelling time of about 2 hrs..
    To err is to human..why not Kirti :)

    • @winniewen3910
      @winniewen3910 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      cough cough yes and no there was no Nepal when Buddha was born the Kingdom he was born was bordering Nepal so its an Indian thing just like Harappan and Indus valley civilization its in Pakistan now but its call Indian Civilization as it has its roots in India just like Prince Buddha, India unlike China did not merge its neighboring Weak Nations to form a big Single Nation its good and Bad , But Nepal is lot poorer and under develop and disorganized then India, this is what most Westerners feel mainly travelers not my views though just from people who were in both the countries

    • @abhijeetkislay838
      @abhijeetkislay838 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      She mentions in her speech that, and I quote her " ... a place called Patna, in perspective which is close to the place where the great Buddha was born." Indeed Bihar shares its border with Nepal. I don't think there is anything wrong in her speech.

    am a schoolteacher
    my comment is that you would not impress much people because you have too much you how good you are, and how nice things are , there is too much ego in your speech, people are impressed with overcoming obstacles, triumph over disabilities

    • @JosannaMonik
      @JosannaMonik 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This was Kirtie's very first speech and the objective was simply a short introduction of herself. Why would she not focus on the positive? Not every speech has to be about overcoming obstacles. Judgmental people like you are the reason people are so terrified of getting up and speaking. I'm baffled that a teacher wouldn't know that.
