my 9 yr old daughter wanted to go pike fishing and after studying your great clips i decided a mobile approach twitchin was in order...first trip out to my local river using your traces and tactics produced a couple of dropped fish in the morning...just when i was beginning to wonder bang we get a 7 pounder followed by 3 jacks in the last hour...totally awesome and my daughter says dad when can we go again...thanks guys
That's a great pike to start with.Don't bank on that happening every time, but its great to hear my tips work for you.A lot of anglers are getting more pike since watching our Totally Awesome Fishing films. Rod length 9 feet.About 1 1/2 lbs tc.10 feet would be longest rod otherwise you can wear your arm out using a longer rod for twitching deadbaits.Send Mike a pic of your next one to our facebook
Most tackle shops should sell them ,but do get the long nose variety.I would also suggest typing "long nosed artery forceps" into your search engine and see if there is anyone online doing them cheap.worth checking out before you rush to the tackle shop. Good Luck. And spread the word on Totally Awesome !!!
5 traces will be enough to start with. Make sure you use an SSG or swan shot for added weight pinched on right by the nose of the bait. Twitch slow not fast, when you feel a bump/grab open the bail arm give them a good few seconds then close the bail arm and strike. With the sprats if you are using them tomorrow keep them chilled in the bottom of the fridge. Look for over hanging bushes, deep holes and edge of weed beds. Good Luck. T/A Fishing
Yes,small Rudd are a great deadbait, but try to lose the treble hooks.Or simply snap one of the prongs off to make a double. That way you can turn them over easier for unhooking.Keep one barb on for holding the bait by the front though.
Yeah, good hooks, actually Partridge of Worcs marketed them after Vic designed them.I drove all the way up to their factory in Redditch I think it was, when I was doing a story on Alan Bramley.Don't know if Vic is still about but I'm sure he would be pleased with all the publicity we at The Totally Awesome Fishing Show have generated.I actually want the same hook, but with an offset crank between the opposed alignment.Make them even easier to get out I feel.I have been using them for over 30 years.
Yes,you can do.Or floatfishing .Legered sprat can be pretty good,it was my main method back in the early 1970's when I ran my own opercular tagging programme for pike.
Hi Graeme, Great video.. I have been using the bouble hook system for 100yrs and had tons of pike on them.. i used to make my own by whipping 2 single hooks together (&still do) cos at the time you could't buy them then.. the VB hooks you show are Vick Bellers who market'ed them! A fantastic method.. Geoff Smith
Mine is 40lb breaking strain. If I put the single in the back of the bait its partly buried.I use it upfront as the hookpoint is then clear, and the rear VB only has the smaller baitholder hook in the bait, the larger half is clear.I'm also working on a variation ,plus a weedless hook so I can pull the deadbait through weeds. If it works OK expect a film.Good hunting.
No idea as I've had it for years, but it is for sea fishing really, so I would try your nearest sea fishing tackle shop. But don't get plastic coated. Only twisted strand .Good luck(Or try the internet/ebay)
Yes,best to use wire trace,if you don't you can bet your last deadbait a pike will grab it and snap you off. Good luck, and send Mike a picture if you get anything.
Anytime from now through to February really, but it's more if the river conditions are right (if you are river fishing). Ideally you need to have had no rain for 2 weeks, that would be ideal conditions
No, but lots of anglers try to cast them too hard. Toss them through the air rather than hard cast. All my twitching sprats is done close to mid range. I try not to cast them too far.Or add a float if you want more distance and twitch that back.
i`ve never seen that tool you used to get deep treble in my years so i`m glad to see it is made i`ll make it a point to get one (or maybe make one) if i can find it thanks as alwayst`s great GOODFISHING
Hello there great videos, I make my traces with 30lb multi strand stainless steel trolling - trace wire very thin and plastic coated, I got that after watching one of your videos. * My Personal best pike to date is a 21 1/2lb pike caught from the Grand Union Canal in the late 80s, I have Hooked some real whoppers in the past that had to be 30lb plus from the great Ouse in the 90's, I had to use some large dead baits to catch those. Off out on another fishing trip in a week I'll make a video when I catch my next biggie. Trefor
i was very lucky once. Was floatfishing with worms as bait and caught a perch at 33 centimeters around luchtime. Ran out of luck and then i changed to a small shadspinner and in 1st cast got a pike. 2nd cast another pike. Had no trace on because i fished for perch and after the 1st pike didn't expected another one :-) Guess i was luckier than i deserved :-)
Weird how that random little sprat ended up being used in a video seen by 30,769 people. That went from random little fry that was totally dismissed as just another little fish has been seen by nearly 31,000 humans. Its odd.
well done on the views.this channel is truely awesome so meny good hints and tips for all types of fishing.i had never heard of you before finding these videos which in turn led me to buying your book about tench fishing.which is awesome although i swear by maggots as hook bait
I wouldn't know where to put any silicon tubing on this trace and I have no idea what a helicopter rig sleeve is.They simpler the rig the better it usually catches. Wire trace. Swivel on end, hook the other, that's pretty much it.
Hey Graeme.. When making your rig, why dont you fix on your double hook first..& then put the single on last! its much easy'er! good video though.. i like the little plug about otters ect.. I bought some of the wire you use 'Tide Cheater' but it comes under another name of 'Mini Wire Rope' but i could only get it in 50lb but very thin though, what breaking strain is yours it seems to twist easy? Keep up the good work! Geoff Smith
Hi brilliant video! Would this rig still work if i use rudd instead of a sprat? and instead of the V.B hooks could i use a treble hook with the barbs on the inside? Thanks a lot
Very helpful video. What disgorger are you using? ... I know it's been long since the video was made but I'm hoping I can still find one of them. Many thanks
love the vids, can you do a spinning/jigging video for perch, I want to try it down a small Thames triburary in London....should i use a trace in case a pike comes along?
Cracking video! Went down my local river to try pike fishing out and i used this method and within half an hour i was into a fish. Turned out to be just under 10lb which is my first ever pike and largest fish ive caught. So thank you! What rods do you recommend for this type of fishing? length and tc?
Hi my boys have dragged me away from sea fishing to have a go at freshwater I must admit I am enjoying it just as much. I am looking at trying a canal near me fancy a pike or two I will be using good old morrisons sprats and was wondering what size hooks you think would suit any help would be much appreciated
Could you use this exact same method using the drennan 7 strand soft wire trace material? Also does the overhand knot weaken the trace in any way? Thanks
Hi, Thanks for the quick reply,i have ordered some vb hooks in size 6 and am going to try them on my local canal. Will the same method be okay for stillwaters??Thanks again...
well i didn't catch a thing i was out till it got dark but i think the river wear in durham city must be poor for pike ill not be beaten im guna try somewhere else thanks for geting bk to me
Hey there guys I'm looking to get into the twitching movement but I'm about an hour away from my fishery, would sprats be too soft or mushy after an hour out of the freezer to twitch?
Hi guys, how much does it matter if the whipps are touching and how many fish are these rigs safe to use for. Do they loose some strength after they have landed a fish? Been pike fishing for years and always used shop bought traces but I've got sick of the expense.
No ,you don't need touching turns when spinning up the wire strands. As to number of pike ?Once it starts to have a couple of strands fray off go to another trace. You can generally cut off the frayed part and make another trace from the leftovers.Don't go too short with it though. I've had quite a few pike on the one trace, but equally a pike that twists it up means it might only be worth using once !!! I'd say half a dozen pike before giving it good look over.
I don't know what the latest craze on wire is...I'm still using my Tide cheater..maybe try a sea fishing shop or look online. The best quality wire I used to rig with for Big Game fishing was called Sevenstrand Duratest.it was cabled multistrand and very supple,I used coffee coloured, but I dont know if a)-they still make it,or b)- what their lower breaking strains are.
Thanks Graham. I will have a look for it. I only discovered your channel a few weeks ago so i come home from work everyday now and have a couple of hours of TA Fishing. I love it. I was a mad keen angler as a lad the joined the Navy for 24 years. Now Ive left and got the bug again. Im a Barbel man now but I love all your episodes, you put so much effort into it and i for one really appreciate it. Totally Awesome
iv just watched and made my traces iv mad 5. im going pike fishing for the first time tomorrow i need to know if five is enough and if i need to freez the sprats i got can some1 plz tell me?
@@TAFishing thanks dude cant seem to find it do you know of any that are the same at all....thanks again... and jst gotta say ur wee vids are the biznis very informative.... ; )
I found this video very interesting but does everything old okay because i see quite a few people use crimps to lock things up, keep the tips coming people could save a few quid by following your tips.
Hi Graeme, i am having difficulty tracking down the tide cheater wire you recommend. Could you give me a contact name or number for it please? Also what breaking strain do you use? Great set of instructional videos. There's an awful lot of BS talked in fishing so it's great to see you guys cutting through all that!
No idea where you get the wire now as I'm still working my way through the original spool.Try sea angling forums,as I reckon it should come under sea rather than freshwater.Or try contacting wire manufacturers on the internet. Make sure its cabled though, and not single strand.
Sorry I just read the comments below... Its a john roberts deep throat pike disgorger that is discontinued and nearly impossible to fine now... What a shame... Great video tho

My old school methods still work. If I don't pass them to the next generation they would be lost forever !!
Graeme i know this is an old video but is that like trolling wire ? Where can one buy some ?

You could try a size 4 single Carp hook.Wire trace, either make them up yourself or you should be able to get them ready made in a tackle shop.
@@TAFishing thanks for the reply I will definitely be making my own there's something about catching on your own gear keep up the good work
I like the music at the start!
love the vid now confident in making my own trace's thanks graeme

hi guys im thinking of getting into making fishign videos and i was wondering what software it was you used to edit these videos
If you are starting off you should practice with imovie its a good stepping stone. Final Cut Pro X is probably the best one to move onto after it
thats brilliant thanks :)
can you do more pike fishing vids PLZ!?
That deep hook remover , where can I find one?
Anyone
Where do you get your VB hooks? Cant find them anywhere. Thanks.
Using the last of my stock from Alan Bramley who used to run Redditch...Once I have run out I think straight singles will be the way forward.
Hi, what are those type of disgorger called please, been looking on tinterweb and can't find them, cheers
Thanks!
Could you use this rig for live baiting as well?
You could do.All you really need is a large single hook and lip the bait.
thanks, used this yesterday and caught a 17lb pike :)
aw thats cute
Thanks Graeme im just about to give that a bash
