4th May 2014 I caught my very first Pike bang on 8lb, an I used your twitching sprat method an it worked fantastically, thanks very much Graeme Pullen your advice has really helped me!
Thanks! Glad you enjoy the videos. Have you seen our light tackle pollock fishing episode? We will be doing more of that sort of stuff over the summer. Thanks for watching
Another awesome vid, well done. Really informative (sink and draw...proper Mr Crabtree stuff) thanks to Graeme and Mike for putting it up and may you continue you to do so.....Brilliant!!
it just shows that a blank can happen to anyone, even someone as experienced as you..which is great ...always enjoy ur videos ....plenty of tips, hints and never bamboozling us with science. gonna try to find your twitching rig now....just started to make my own. ty
I've been in business for close to 50 years and it does pain me to see over a million hits on a site and we only have 3 DVD's for sale !! I was in retail for 38 of those years so it hurts. But our operation is sponsored financially totally by...ME ! So you don't have to put up with all that tackle gibberish. I know we should sell tackle, but our site is so huge now because guys appreciate we tell the truth and just give techniques. I'll try to talk Mike into doing some extra tackle bits though
All baits can be twitched. Minnows or bleak on a single size 6 carp hook can be good for Perch(and small Pike). You might have to add some shot to get them down. Fish the margins for perch, overhanging bushes /trees etc.
These guys are the best, love you guys. This year i got into 'poppers' spinning , dead/live baits all work, but poppers on the surface..................best thrill ever. Tight lines.
I love all your work. Great stuff please keep it up. I know this is an old upload but I watch all the content you and Mike create, From your classic fishing videos to your camping adventures. I have watched your channel since 2014. I love it. All the best to you Mike and the rest of your family. Regards. Luke.
Watch our film on choosing pike lures.I personally prefer twitching deadbaits as the best technique as I can make them "hang" a few seconds in the best spots, whereas a lure has to be moved to make it look real.I have no idea on modern lure names,as all mine are old(and still catching !) I suggest keeping the lures small, rather than on the large size, and medium divers, not deep divers.
Thank you very much for taking you time to do this video. I fish for pike often on lakes and ponds but never on the canal and the ironic thing is my house backs on to a canal. I am going to give it a try with all the tips on you video. Cheers Billy
You need good water clarity, but want mild south westerly airflows.Any hard overnight frost followed by clear blue sky puts off many baitfish, and that slows down the predators as well.Cloudy weather would be better.
Clear, no rain to flood them. If its coloured your chances go down as they cannot see so well. Wear polarising glasses so you can work lures near any weedbeds or structures. That's where they will be lying up. Work the lures near the surface, with fast twitches. Watch out for explosive takes near the bank edge as you lift out.Good luck.
keep it up you two as im getting back into fishing and need all the tips i can get especially as im on a very tight budget, so cheap baits and gear come in useful.
Yeah, have done boat fishing for pike.Done lots in Southern Ireland years ago,I call it float trolling.Rudd deadbait.Smokes the pike !! They just can't help themselves ! no twenties, but numbers into low doubles.Great sport .Done it on Blenheim Palace Lake,Oxford too. Could be a film coming as well. I've filmed all the technique at Blenheim but can't find the clips we've got so much stuff on our Tb drives !! Keep watching.Spread the "Awesome" word
I do not believe I did! will look it up and watch it. thanks for the reply :) we are all waiting for summer don't we :) looking forward to seeing more awesomeness man.
I was out fishing tonight on the canal near my house. I just did what you said. I casted under the bridge and first cast I had a perch of 1.5lb and then 2 casts later I had a 5lb pike. Then I casted alongside the reed beds and had another pike :D
Where their food fish live. Find the food fish and the pike will not be far away. Try features. Gravel bars, drop-offs,weedbeds,deep[ pools, bankside overhangs, trees etc. Just a question of learning to read the signs. No magic bullet I'm afraid. Just groundwork. Ask others if its a water new to you.
Hi Kieron, we have had a huge number of questions about the vb double hooks, Graeme bought them many years ago and hasn't bought any since so unfortunately we have no idea where to buy them now, I guess its just a case of typing it into your search engine or asking your local tackle shop.
Either. But there will be weed about so you need to cast into the clear areas,or better still ,alongside the edges of weedbeds. The pike lie under them in summer
That's a good catch ,well done. I can't tell you how many fish I've had over 50 years by having that "last cast". Or what we call, the "5-minute warning" which often lasts half an hour !! Both can be lucky.
go to the askari fishing website you should find the hooks under: 'snelled hooks' on the third page if you scroll down a bit there about £1.25 per pack im sorry my PC refuses to send the link so if you still cant find them ill give you moer detail good luck
Hi Graeme I have seen a few of your sprat twitching vids and would really like to try it (when my local river isn't in it'd 4th month of clay coloured flood) I cannot find those offset double hooks anywhere, any advise? Or even better, already made up traces. Any help appreciated.
Yes,shortly, coming through to fish Somerset shore for film .Mike in Somerset as I type, filming another overnighter for his hugely successful T.A. Outdoors...Going to be a cold one tonight though.
it's actually illegal to release signal crayfish back into the water, even if you remove them unintentionally like Graeme. and the signal crayfish carry a disease that wipe out our native crayfish so chances are if you find signals there aren't likely to be the native white clawed crayfish.
In other pike videos you mention not striking too soon and letting the fish take the whole bait. The canal i fish is very murky and i'm unable to see the bait in the water. Is it best that i use a float in that case? I'm new to pike fishing and giving it a go at the weekend. Love your videos Graeme and i'm taking many tips from you...VB hooks on order! Keep up the good work :)
Hi Graeme and Mike great video, some great tips, really enjoyed it. I'm going cruising on the Broads next week, starting at Potters Hiegham and hopefully heading towards Wroxham. any other tips you can give ? or places to try ? I will be using lures because the women are worried about smelly dead bait !!!!!!!!! thanks, keep up the good work.
Oh well, it was worth asking. I'll give them a try and you never know, I might be able to give you some tips on places to try when I get back !! cheers.
I know it seems a big favour but I think we all would benefit, I am asking if you could possibly sell tackle on the website, I am not asking you to sell a tonne of tackle but just little bits and pieces like lures, or traces or even a couple rods Great videos :D
I'm wanting to start out Pike fishing. I don't want to use a bait caster, I would like a rod like TA fishing has but incase i didn't like the predator fishing i could just make it a carp rod i would like it to have a cork grip. The rod would be used for fishing for perch, pike, zander, Chub I would prefer to use small lures-spoons, dont really want to use deadbaits. Does anyone know what rod and reel is suited for me my budget is about £200
GREAT VIDEO AS USUAL. BUT ........That bloke might have a licence for Cray fishing Graeme ! ! How do you know its an illegal trap ? Leave it alone mate. LOL 😄😄
Partridge double hooks CS1ST Ordered :-) I used Hooked Wholesale Fishing Tackle - best price and good selection of other tackle. Can't wait to make a trace up and try it :-)

enjoying every show from Jordan! Yes you have fans here too. wish to see more totally awesome salt water action on light tackle too.
Watch our film on choosing pike lures.I personally prefer twitching deadbaits as the best technique as I can make them "hang" a few seconds in the best spots, whereas a lure has to be moved to make it look real.I have no idea on modern lure names,as all mine are old(and still catching !) fantastic tips guys especially for the novice pike angler superb

Any bait can be used, with dead rudd being a second favourite. Its just that sprats are cheap, you get lots of them and they are silver so flash well.
1:34 SNIPERS ON THE BRIDGE GRAEME GET DOWN!!!!!!!!!!
Makes me feel slightly better knowing its not just me who blanks' it's pro's too 😂😂😂 great channel ' great content 👍
You need good water clarity, but want mild south westerly airflows.Any hard overnight frost followed by clear blue sky puts off many baitfish, and that slows down the predators as well.Cloudy weather would be better.
nice tips, no fish but still bether a bad day of fishing then a good day at work :)

This is more like my fishing experience !!
keep it up you two as im getting back into fishing and need all the tips i can get especially as im on a very tight budget, so cheap baits and gear come in useful.
The tips are for autumn and winter. Some canals are just too weedy in summer.
Yeah, have done boat fishing for pike.Done lots in Southern Ireland years ago,I call it float trolling.Rudd deadbait.Smokes the pike !! It was a film for tips to help others find good spots, but we did try to catch while filming, just conditions against it.
Yup, you gave us the Beatles. We gave you invasive crayfish. Lol
I do not believe I did! will look it up and watch it. thanks for the reply :)
we are all waiting for summer don't we :) looking forward to seeing more awesomeness man.
Doesn't matter, tails are better, they can cast further. Lash the 'wrist' of the tail onto the wire trace. helps to keep it straight
I was out fishing tonight on the canal near my house. I just did what you said. I casted under the bridge and first cast I had a perch of 1.5lb and then 2 casts later I had a 5lb pike. Then I casted alongside the reed beds and had another pike :D
Super clip of fishing, beautiful nature. Large szczupak.Pozdrawiam :Jerzy of Poland
I like hotdog segments, or bread. Plus luncheon meat. Also dog biscuits(soaked)when floater fishing.
Great video, as always. As an America living in Germany, your channel inspired me to make my own youtube channel for fishing in Germany in English.
yes m8 I agree the Pollock fishing on light tackle was totally awesome
@ 12:51
Haha - a new ailment for the Medical Dictionary - " Twitcher's Wrist ". .!!
Great info as usual , thanx Graeme
love your show. keep it up lads!!!!!!!!!!
I put the hooks facing the other way as pike have the tendency to take a fish head first and this gives you more chance of setting the hook.
Awesome advice!

Very good method chap love the logic pulled a 18lb out on the same idea just used a sliced open mackerel
That video was TOTALLY AWESOME :P
you are the best for advice, i follow your word to he T, & you are always spot on!! :)
respect from greame and mike the best angler in the world
Either. But there will be weed about so you need to cast into the clear areas,or better still ,alongside the edges of weedbeds. The pike lie under them in summer
TAFishing I
Basingstoke Canal.Through Hampshire and into Surrey.I think the fishing is better in the Surrey area.
a question: where do the pike hide around september in big lakes?
very nice video!
gal levin ii
I got a new spinning rod yesterday went fishing soon as used that jerk technique last cast by a boat pike was 15 pound
That's a good catch ,well done. I can't tell you how many fish I've had over 50 years by having that "last cast". Or what we call, the "5-minute warning" which often lasts half an hour !! Both can be lucky.
Helped alot

Hey guys! Have yous ever tried using any other baits for twichin'? and will yous be puting up more pike videos any time soon? thanks. Conor
Leo - as Graeme says, you have to be licensed to net crayfish, even the signal ones.
Good video chaps - enjoyed it, as with all you videos.
love the info keep it up guy's
what summer tactics would you suggest for pike ? deadbait? spinning? etc
What an amazing channel! :)
GOOD VID! Q. WHAT IS THE BEST CONDITION FOR THIS TYPE OF FISHING AS THE BRIGHT LIGHT AND COLD WEATHER ISN'T IDEAL, AS YOU HAVE MENTIONED? THANK YOU!
good tips and theories!
Can you pull the sprat either way up the tide? As in, up the river or down the river as well? Or does one work better than the other?
What kind of lures would you suggest for Pike or would you perfer using live bait?
what are good weather condtions in the summer to catch pike?
England.Fish anywhere I can if I get the time.
Another great show but you broke the law by returning those signaller crayfish
Hi Graeme
I have seen a few of your sprat twitching vids and would really like to try it (when my local river isn't in it'd 4th month of clay coloured flood)
I cannot find those offset double hooks anywhere, any advise?
Or even better, already made up traces.
Any help appreciated.

Blanked, can't believe it Graeme. Are you ever down on the Somerset levels?
Yes,shortly, coming through to fish Somerset shore for film .Mike in Somerset as I type, filming another overnighter for his hugely successful T.A. Outdoors...Going to be a cold one tonight though.
ive been really lucky with the pike fishing the last week or so, keep hooking up on good fish! not telling anyone my spot haha.
Don't blame you..now is the best time to get the bigger pike.
Graham ? What bait do u use for carp fishing ?
Proud of you for freeing the cray fish good soon I think ,I think sport fishing should be catch and release
it's actually illegal to release signal crayfish back into the water, even if you remove them unintentionally like Graeme. and the signal crayfish carry a disease that wipe out our native crayfish so chances are if you find signals there aren't likely to be the native white clawed crayfish.
Arent you supposed to kill Signal Crayfish & not return them to the water ??
Just saying - ( edit maybe)
Danm the 30 year old rods are actually good liking although I like changing my gear out but the reels are wack what are they called
awesome video :)
Is this still effective in winter?
Would a Shakespeare ugly stick substitute for your Australian spinning rod?
Yes,it should be fine
In other pike videos you mention not striking too soon and letting the fish take the whole bait. The canal i fish is very murky and i'm unable to see the bait in the water. Is it best that i use a float in that case? I'm new to pike fishing and giving it a go at the weekend. Love your videos Graeme and i'm taking many tips from you...VB hooks on order! Hi Ian, Don't know that area. Try local forums or the tackle shop. Or fishing clubs for that area. Good Luck.
Oh well, it was worth asking. I'll give them a try and you never know, I might be able to give you some tips on places to try when I get back !!
cheers.
I know it seems a big favour but I think we all would benefit, I am asking if you could possibly sell tackle on the website, I am not asking you to sell a tonne of tackle but just little bits and pieces like lures, or traces or even a couple rods
Great videos :D

Great vid. Whats the name of the leader and where to buy?
+Adrian Ruile Mine is old school.Probably out of production now.Your local tackle shop should have some wire.
+TAFishing Do You know the name? in Germany deadbaiting isn't that Popular and There Are only systems like dracovich
+Adrian Ruile Can't remember the name I'm afraid!
Adrian Ruile
Where is this place?
So buy a small rod and twitch. What about a shuffle ?
Try smelt vs sprats!

Yeh graeme you are right 5 mins is half hour
I went earlier today, blanked. Looked in my sub box OMFG I would've caught if i watched this earlier :'(
I'm wanting to start out Pike fishing. You could try using lures if you have no success on deadbaits. Check out our other films on techniques for pike fishing, they might help you as well.
Nah mate it will only work on the canal unfortunately😕
that methed has been in use for over 20 years any thing new to tell us
Yes ....you can’t spell Method !

Would you pull a lobster pot when your at the sea NO but you presume that trap is illegal and release a signal crayfish.Nob.
