If you're considering moving to Saskatoon, you'll find that it offers a high quality of life, affordable housing options, and plenty of employment opportunities. In this video, we'll take a closer look at the key expenses you'll need to budget for when living in Saskatoon.
Housing is a major consideration for anyone moving to Saskatoon, and you'll find that both renting and buying offer affordable options. The average cost of a one-bedroom rental apartment in Saskatoon is around $900 per month, while the median home price is around $365,000. When it comes to utilities, you can expect to pay around $300 per month for electricity, gas, and water, with additional costs for internet and cable.
Entertainment and dining out are two more important aspects of life in Saskatoon, and there's no shortage of options. From cultural events and outdoor activities to fine dining and casual eateries, you'll never be bored. When it comes to dining out, a meal for two at a mid-range restaurant can cost anywhere from $40 to $60, while groceries will run you around $250 per month per person.
Transportation is another important factor to consider, and there are several options, including public transit, taxis, and personal vehicles. The cost of public transportation is around $90 per month, while car ownership costs can vary greatly depending on your vehicle choice and driving habits. If you opt to own a car, you'll also need to budget for insurance, with an average monthly cost of around $90.
In conclusion, Saskatoon offers a great balance of cost and quality of life, making it a popular choice for those looking to move to Saskatchewan. With plenty of job opportunities, affordable housing, and a vibrant arts and culture scene, Saskatoon is an excellent place to call home. Before you move to Saskatoon, make sure to research the cost of living and employment opportunities to ensure that it's the right fit for you.

I live in Martensville. I'd sy you're pretty spot on except for electricity and single family homes.
Unless you're willing to live in the ghetto, whole house rent starts around $2000/mo and purchase price starts around $300,000.
Electricity in SK is expensive. I don't know anyone paying under $200/mo unless they are in an apartment. A house with a family of 4 is going to over $200 for sure.

I moved to Martensville to get away from the expensive Saskatoon housing market.
Don't know how the rest of the country is doing it with even higher costs.

I feel most videos on saskatchewan in general forget to mention all the problems you face here and try to compare it to the rest of canada. Did you mention if you live in Southern saskatchewan like most ppl do you have to drive hrs to get to an actual decent lake besides the nasty lakes like diefenbaker, pike lake, black strap, regina beach and so on. Alberta has the mountains and manitoba has lakes everywhere and an ocean, where as saskatchewan has alot but its all northern areas. Saskatchewan makes no sense being as expensive as it is period!

based on what you said, if you are earning 15$/h for , 8h per day, 5 days a week and about 24 days a month you would make around (2880 $ - income taxes = 2592$)
and what you would need to survive 2060$ without a car and while living in the basement and 2370$ if you own a car + installment (around 400) = 2770$
15$/h sucks literally, u would live like livestock and probably hurt yourself.... The minimum wage should crank up to be at least 18$ just to save at least 500$ or get a main floor rental instead of the basement that would look like a hole in the winter.

Born and raised in saskatchewan and wouldnt recommend moving here coming from a non biased source. Wages ARE NOT Great here(median income is 90-$100,000 a year when I dont know a single family making this much from the 100s if 1000s of ppl i know from tradesmen and so on. Saskatchewan in the 90s was amazing for affordability, entertainment, the great people and so on. Now alot of that entertainment has vanished, so has affordability and people are very sour here. Its unrecognizable now, for the worse.

Buying a house there isn't a problem...getting a job that will pay the bills is the problem...unless of course you're on the public teat and have a gov't job. ( municipal, provincial or federal). When I lived in an apartment on Victoria ave. , the apartment manager worked as a manager for the apartment owner, and she worked at Costco...and she was a private investigator. That's the only way she could afford to live and she couldn't even afford a car.

    Hola.
I'm moving to Saskatoon in upcoming January 2024.
I'm looking for a 1-bedroom furnished apartment/studio/bachelor with daylight in city center, or wherever easy to commute for a young professional person.
I hope it will be around $1,000 including all utilities.
    Is it hard to find??
    2nd,
I'm thinking about getting a car.
    Not for now.
But will be. I should have one in the future. Hopefully in 2025.
I have G1. No Canadian driving experience for now.
Willing to buy a second car on marketplace somewhere around 3-4k. To help me commute even in winter or to the near by provinces.
?? How much would I pay for insurance, gas, maintenance, (everything) monthly??
    Thank you so much!

    • @ScottZieglerSaskatoon
      @ScottZieglerSaskatoon  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

I can't really advise on the car payments. As for rental accommodation best to check Facebook marketplace, www.kijiji.ca or call local property management companies and see what they have available. I would start looking now as rental accommodations can be hard to find. Good luck

    • @ScottZieglerSaskatoon

My mother has been waiting for eye surgery for 6 months. General healthcare is good unless you need surgery. I don’t know if it’s the same elsewhere but scheduling and booking operating rooms via your doctor is a hassle. Hard to find good doctors here in my opinion. Felt more rushed through than going through the cash register in a grocery store.
