Also you might know this as you know someone who obviously is in the know about BTS but they have there own YT channel, BANGTAN TV. It shows a lot of stuff on there. Including behind the scense and rehearsals plus some fun stuff.
This song has a very clear message about the misuse of the emotion "anger". Anger is necessary and can be used against injustices to change the world. However many people throw it around and use it to hurt others, which is a waste of the emotion "anger". Please watch DDKTV explaination reaction , they go into great detail. 🙏🙏🙏 Also the lyrics on this particular video are not accurate. There is a live performance of UGH. It's really good. They are talking about how people use and hold anger. For example, Instead of some people using anger for just causes to create meaningful change, it gets misused and misdirected to hurt people whether that is celebrities or other humans. As we know this hurt can cause damage, even resulting in someone's death.
I really suggest reacting to the explanation video by dkdktv for this song. The lyrics were too fast to read properly so you missed some stuff, and even if you did catch all the lyrics there are some nuances that are important for the meaning of this song that are difficult to understand for non-Koreans

I think you guys should react to the EXPLANATION VIDEO by DKDKTV for UGH! and DDAENG if you are going to do it next. These "lyric" videos don't do justice for these complex songs.

To me, it's clear that they are saying that anger, when used to fight against wrong things, is not just ok but necessary. The bad anger is that what makes people become haters.

This song has so many layers! And I agree that you should watch DKDKTV explanation. There are many historical and linguistic explanation for this song. I agree that you should interpret the song the way you’d like. But it may help you to appreciate the song more. Their live performance of this is so crazy. My favorite is the recent one from their Yet To Come in Busan concert. I look forward to what the wheel picks next. Unless it’s a vocal line song, most group songs have rap parts and so you really can’t go wrong. I hope you guys are enjoying the journey!

UGH! is about online haters. I highly recommend the explanation by DKDKTV for this song as well as for their song 'Ddaeng'. Unless you know the Korean culture well, you might not fully understand the lyrics for these songs. A lot of their songs have Korean idioms that DKDKTV explains.

Thanks for your reaction. Yes, as RM says, do you! Everything is up to interpretation, however it's necessary to use DKDKTV for explanations and then you get the full picture. And I'm a 54 yr old proud Army! As for the 'rules' they're really just suggestions, just enjoy the music. If you have to go back to see the lyrics better do so, whatever helps you to get a better experience. Lots of reactors do their thing and have happy Army's following along so don't worry too much!

Idk if this is tactless for me to say, so I'll delete if sm1 asks, but bc I didn't see it, I'd like to share some history of what was also going on when this song came out.
BTS tend to make songs or references in their songs that affect them on a socioeconomic and political scale (like *Go Go,* as you've mentioned), and they too have been subjected to a lot of quite irrational and irrationally large-scale hate.
So, I agree with both of your interpretations at 13:43, bc a few months b4 the song's release, there was an unfortunate string of celeb su*cides (for various, and some, undisclosed reasons), and at least a couple of them were ppl who were very vocal and public abt the unwarranted hate they got from online, in the industry, and by the media.
vote here if you want @habituallinecrosser's wife (who by the way is spectacular) to be hired to advise the next reactions and the right videos to understand the depth of the songs 🤚

If there isn't an official video, strongly recommend watching a live performance rather than these lyric videos. There is also an UGH! Explained video that is fantastic. There are explanation videos for many of BTS videos because their lyrics almost always have multiple meanings. Their lyrics also include very cultural specific topics that are relatable elsewhere but may not always make sense unless you have some familiarity with the language and culture. The live version of UGH! from the Busan concert is total hype and worth a watch!
For songs without music videos, you’ll get the most out of them watching live performances.
Enjoy BTS more is a channel with videos of live BTS performances with English translations of the lyrics. Also BangtanTV channel has Ugh live performance from Busan Yet To Come Concert and BTS' online concert in 2020. An explanation video provides deeper Korean cultural / societal context.
In a nutshell, BTS is talking about the abuse / misuse of anger when there are more important reasons to get angry or when anger is justified eg injustice

I wouldn’t say that their song are just up for interpretation so much as there’s often layers of interpretation and sometimes very specific references and language play that you need an explanation video for if you’re not Korean and/or clued into all the symbolism.

As is already mentioned in other comments. If there is no mv or after you watched the lyric video you could watch a live performance. 'UGH!' was most recently performed during 'Yet to come' in Busan. (together with cypher Pt 3, so you might like to check that out first...)
And you are definitely right that there is no right or wrong interpretation of the songs/lyrics, and I enjoy hearing your thoughts. But through language and cultural barriers, some things might get lost. So you could also check out an explanation video. For this, DKDKTV's is probably the best one. (Another good source for explainer videos is bookish theories.)
If you have the time and inclination, you could do all of that in one video. Like a lyric or music video with your thoughts and interpretations, an explainer video after and a life performance at the end. Just a suggestion. I would definitely like and watch something like that.
And keep on pausing through the video. I really like to hear your initial thoughts and how they change as the song progresses.

Before BTS (and Eminem) I’ve had no stomach for rap! Other than these 2 artists, I’ve always associated rap with gangsters, hate in general, women hating and people who think they’re too cool for the rest of the world. I HATED it! I can’t say enough about BTS and their 3 rappers - they’re impactful, emotionally intelligent and so wise for their young years…they’re 3 of the best in the world, as far as I’m concerned!
I’m actually more invested in their vocalists (Jimin is my ultimate bias but Hobi is my bias wrecker) but I respect and love RM’s, Suga’s and Hobi’s rapping so much!!! The whole group are just extraordinary! Borahae BTS! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

For songs like ugh, daeng gogo, spring day, (basically any bts watch dkdk TV explanation video for bts. Bts has a lot of hidden meaning and aspects of korean that just looking at English translations won't show. You'd have to watch an explanation video to understand them. They are extremely helpful to understand and it makes you realize how genius bts music truly is.
I remember seeing an explanation video for Fire after I'd been an army for years already. I was shocked at how much I hadn't even known I was missing.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but don't be afraid to watch the video a couple of times during ur reactions. U don't have to try to catch everything in just one go. We don't mind watching long videos at all. We love it when u take the time to digest everything during a reaction. The 1st round, watch it for the vibe/visuals etc. Then go back the 2nd time & focus on the lyrics. That way u don't miss anything.

hey guys, really enjoying your reactions! i'm prob not the only one requesting this, but when you react to a BTS lyric video, how about reacting to the live concert performance of the song as well? BTS actually performed "UGH" in concert (@ Busan, SK) a few months ago, and the energy they put into their live performances is on another level!
Everyone commenting they should have done / watched xyz, be kind and patient. They are new just like we were once and it takes time to navigate through the sheer amount of videos / lyric videos that are available. Also you can leave a link as a reply to your comment, of the video you think they should watch or should have watched.
Most songs are up for interpretation but certain songs with cultural and current event references, you need an explanation video. The channel DKDTV has UGH Explanation by a Korean.
Please watch the DKDKTV explanation video, because BTS songs always have hidden meanings and intelligent linguistic approaches that will impress you. They don't tend to write any straight forward lyrics, it's always personal to them. And aaaah you've got to watch the live version because if BTS is known for something it's their stage presence.
Check out Dkdktv- BTS explained for Ugh like suggested. They are great at explaining the references to their culture that give underlying layers to each song you react to for a deeper understanding the genius of the lyricism having multiple but cohesive meanings in English as well as Korean. For example: "Ahem" repeated many times in the song pertains to societal and class appropriation .. very similar to how we clear our throats to change the subject on a matter that makes us uncomfortable the same is " Ahem" except its done to make another uncomfortable for manipulation..to just shut up and take it , whether how wrong it is, I am the higher person and I'm right.. etc..

The "Ahems" is a Korean culture thing, where people who are higher in social standing or financial standing or generational standing etc. clear their throats when they're looking down at another person's viewpoint or expressing derision. You clear your throat, like "sure, sure". It can have multiple meanings, and I've seen a lot of other comments recommending DKDKTV's video explaining UGH. That channel has a lot of good videos when you want context on the cultural differences and nuances/references that Western audiences may not understand easily. They do a great video on DDAENG as well (if you watch that one) because Ddaeng is a unique word that Koreans use in many different ways and Western audiences will not understand most of the lyrics without some context.
This is one you def need to add to your DKDKTV requests guys along with Ddaeng. You'll get hit with a big O.O that's what it means when you see the breakdown. Neat reaction. Thank you.

You guys gotten hate comments yet? They’re so mad at what you said, what you represented? What you did? You guys felt such anger you had to go to war and fight for change? There’s different types of anger, the type that makes you someone’s punching bag or the type of anger that can propel people to change the world. This is a little of what BTS was singing about.
The meaning goes more along the lines of "you have the right to be angry but use that anger for something worthwhile don't waste it for nothing, your anger without reasons can cost someone life while your anger with reason can change the world"
you guys are pretty much right about it being about how it's okay to be angry but they're frustrated and angry with the people who are getting angry at the dumbest things instead of getting angry at the important things and using their anger for good and to make a change, instead these people are getting angry because of dumb things like some celebrity wearing a green dress instead of a blue dress you know?

Regarding the release when something new drops: please do try to do at least one of the two things she said. If you publish the reaction as soon as possible, then please watch until the very end without thouching the video so you give BTS a view; but if you are willing to wait to release your reaction (you indeed can watch it the same day and save it for 24hs), then there's no need to contain yourselves from interacting with the video that much.
That would be kind to us army working on the views but if you're not up to it, we won't hate you lol since this is also your job.

A tip: when your receive a request of a song that some people also request alongside it's explanatio video (specially from dkdk tv), you should watch both! Since it's most probably needed. For UGH for example, he explanation would have been great since stuff is lost in translation and native speakers would know better. Consider releaseing a reaction to the UGH Explained by a Korean
Someone needs to create an ARMY field manual for all trainees....also definitely recommend the explained video for this one from DKDKTV.

@@tigerteel Oh no, I didn't mean your interpretations were wrong. I quite like your interpretations. However, after you have done your reactions, you can check out DKDKTV to see the cultural references you missed. Things that there is no way you would know unless you are Korean or at least extremely familiar with Korean culture. That is the great thing about BTS's music. You can enjoy it at surface level cause it sounds great. You can enjoy it at mid-level of understanding the translated lyrics that are provided. But, you can also enjoy it on a deeper level by appreciating the culture from which the music is derived. Not every BTS needs an explained video but certain songs like UGH, Ddaeng, Bapsae, Daechwita, etc. have so much cultural references and meaning in them.
For me, understanding everything exactly right before I view a painting, read a book, or listen to music takes away form my own enjoyment and interpretation of it. So a complete manual is not necessary for everyone

PS many of their songs also have translations by koreans which should be watched as well to understand what is really going on...so much of their music/lyrics has more than one meaning and some of them are very deep.

Hi! So this song is about anger but how it is misplaced for trivial things instead of being use for causes that matter. When they are saying ugh can I ugh... get angry until it turns to ashes, it's said in a negative connotation, they are imitating those people who waste their time hating on things that don't really need hate or anger (such as hating on BTS). What they say is, anger can be good and can change history but only when its aimed at things that need changes).

At 2:52 when HLC says he was thinking about reacting to Jimin's album immediately and then he imitates his wife's "uh-No." I swear I could see her face on yours. It's hilarious how we pick up patterns from our spouses,etc
They are also talking about people being keyboard warriors. Like spreading lies and maliciousness on the internet and hurting people in the process because of their own hate and anger. Then at the end they are basically saying people tell them they make so much money and are successful what are they complaining about. Telling them to take all the lies and maliciousness in stride because they are successful.
The live version would have had more of an impact and brought the song more to life. Pls react to live performances if there are no music videos.
When you let your anger consume you, it takes a form of it's own and becomes too much even for you to handle.
It becomes a person, a living being. And everything you're doing would all come back to your anger. It's giving you purpose, so you nurture it by doing everything for the sake of anger or extinguishing your anger or maybe you're angry and trying to prove a point.
what I take away from UGH is that there are issues that really deserve anger, where anger is appropriate and needed ,but we are getting angry about a ton of irrelevant bs (policing each other, celebrity culture etc) that we lose focus of what's really going on in the world. and bts are the target of such ''malicious anger''. it's not just that bts are getting shit on, as they said they are used to it and don't mind anymore, it's that all this malicious anger and energy directed at them cold be used to rage against the real issues in the world

Generally this song is a reaction to online haters and trolls. There have been a couple of suicides of idols in korea who were attacked online so that's what the death refers to.

Anger is being used for silly things instead of using your anger against real issue's. That's it's not wrong to feel anger as it has the power and drive to an change a situation. It can change the world when anger is used correctly. It's bascially a knock at people who use anger over silly things but when it comes to the big issue where is your anger?
It's also a dig at those people who say, 'Well you have all this fame and money, you should be able to just put up with all the hate comments you get' errrmmm come on people just because someone has money and fame doesn't mean people have a right to use their anger that you've succeed so post nastie malicious rumours about you, threaten your life (they've received a number of death threats evening had a concert cancelled due to death threats). It's a hit back at those who have been so vile and full of hatred to them then when they say anything thing the hater twist it to 'Suck it up, your rich, and famous'.
As well as the online bullying that so affected other Kpop artists that they un-alived themselves.

So here's the thing I've found interesting about BTS, they do talk a LOT about things from their personal experiences, like haters or keyboard warriors or their struggles with their own demons but BTS also talks a lot about social phenomenon! The unjust things in society or the hypocricy of people. Ugh is 1 such song which is more than just their experiences with anger but them talking what a powerful emotion Anger itself if especially for this society. How Anger has power to bring about change in this world but also anger misdirected/filled with malice can hurt people!
The song is calling out netizens who lose their minds and get so malicious that it has driven several celebrities to harm or su1c1de, as well as how it does the same to ordinary citizens. The su1c1de rates in South Korea are disproportionate compared to other countries, and this is just another social call-out BTS is making.
The explanation video for this by DKDKTV is important to get context. Many of their songs have similar breakdowns because of word play, group history, and cultural references.

It’s a fun song with a cool meaning (a lot of people talked about checking out the DKDTV explanation which helps). For the rest, you did a good choice to pick this video, the ones suggesting colour coded lyrics want that because it tells you which member is singing when but I have to say they don’t always have the best and accurate translations so the one you chose is totally fine! BTS rapline here basically criticize people complaining about non-issues and turning them into issues, versus not being vocal when actual issues happen in the world.
It’s a critique of how people just complain about other people all the time and have so much hate for things that don’t matter and how righteous anger against, for example, injustice is dying
The last part with all the ‘ahem’ (throat clearing sound) is more about their own selves and how other people say “I would endure all the criticism if I were in your shoes” or “well it’s expected with fame” and yada yada
I also suggest that you look up either subbed live performances, or color coded lyrics for songs without a music video and also maybe read a slight synopsis pff from the web that describes the general message of the song

You should watch the whole J Hope´s Lollapalooza concert. It was fire!!!!!!! I am a 50 year old mom, rock lover and man this concert is one of the best performances I´ve ever watched in my entire life. UGH is about anger that can be used in a positive way to get important issues on the table but useless anger is not only useless but dangerous. It can cause somenone´s misery or even cost someone´s life. Hating idols is pontless. Use your anger for something important that can change the world.

BTS have a lot of songs with intent, and in order to understand the intent you have to know more about the group, where they come from, and how they draw inspiration. You don't have to understand the intent to like a song though.
