I purchased an aftermarket replacement lens yesterday due to cracks and my cost on it was approximately C$150. For most part it was pretty good however there were some challenges with it which I think you need to be made aware of. The clip for the lighting is a very poor quality, upon touching it with the screwdriver to remove that red lock it fell apart, so we had to use a plastic Ziptie and then electrical tape to connect the two plugs ends. Upon installing it with the alignment was off and was protruding into the rear door hatch. Upon further inspection we compared the OE to the aftermarket and noticed that the plastic bracket where the bolts are screwed on to the body of the truck, that plate was not of the same spacing. So what we did as a hack is we took two wine cork and jammed it into the bottom to take up the space and shim the lens flush. Aside from that everything else just seems to be working great. Oh as an added step we also took some 3M two-sided rubber tape and created a seal between the body and the lens to help keep any moisture out. I hope this helps I was going to make a video but forgot!

I’m still wondering why they slap a 3157 for reverse light. And this implies to some of the incandescent bulbs. There’s nothing wrong with because it works fine. But what I’m sayin is, why would they put a 3157 that has a dual filament that’s use for front parking light and turn signal function, and brake light function, instead of using 3156 that has a single coil filament for use as rear turn signal and reverse light, and front turn signals as well? Why not switch to more reliable led bulb upgrade for something a little bit brighter than stock, like sylvania zevo 3156 white led bulbs? It’s brighter than stock, it has a reliable pure krisp white with no blue tinge in it.
Thanks for your detailed query. The choice of bulb type in vehicles can depend on a range of factors including efficiency, brightness, and cost, sometimes manufacturers find certain bulb types more fitting. As for upgrading to the Sylvania ZEVO 3156 LED, it’s indeed a great idea for enhanced brightness.
