It sounds like someone strangling himself while gargling salt water.
Believe it or not, this chase actually scare the living shit out of me as a kid. It was just how monster ock was animated in the cut scene, the way he moved destroying everything in his way trying to get you, and the sounds he was making, along with him repeatedly stabbing your corpse when he caught you that scared me. The meter telling you how close he was to getting you didnt help calm me either

There is a literal child game mode with those instructions. Sounds nice if you consider that your 7-year old son might play this game.

Lol Hahaha... I can't disagree there. The camera angle is pretty bad but that's also what makes this chase so scary at the same time. This chase wouldn't be the same if the camera was just focused from your view running away from Doc Ock.

ya I think I was 7 when I first played this, my cousin bought it for his N64 but he was here at the time and Jesus this was intense (first introduction to spiderman 2099 though so that was cool)
Carnage Ock has to be the most horrifying thing in a video game. The standing pose, the screams and the meter telling you how close hes getting, its just fucking scary.

The noises Monster Ock makes combined with the fact that you can’t fight him and have to run away in a claustrophobic vent space, and the fact that nothing slows him down makes this sequence one of the most terrifying in video game history.

I literally can’t believe I beat this as a 5-6 year old child. I must of had balls of steel because this still looks terrifying to me. And the fact I remembered all the jumps and camera angles just shows how nostalgic this game really is. Love it so much

I played Half Life 1 before this game and I had a chuckle because it sounded like one of the Zombies from the game.
This was one heck of an interesting way to do the final level for an awesome game. No final battle or learning a pattern to defeat him, just a pure chase to the end that requires quick reflexes. Not to mention how frequent he closes in on you and makes those guttural, primal noises that make it a terrifying experience overall

I do have to agree, the boss is kinda spooky, imagine playing this boss in October and in night.
It also fits a Spider Man games with the use of reflexes and timing
Back in the day, that last mission was the scariest thing I had ever played. Once PlaystationNOW launches this is the first game I am getting!
Yes, a lot of people were afraid of this mission during their childhood. The craziest thing about it now is that it's still creepy and scary to play. Recording this part made me extremely nervous and I'm surprised I didn't fail and managed to complete it on my first try without playing this game in almost 10-12 years. Either way, have fun with it when you play it because it's still enjoyable.

I'm surprised that Monster Ock hasn't made any appearance in the comics, because this "Thing" that Neversoft made is terrifying in the best way. It's remembered for being one of the most horrifying events in video gaming history. He deserves to be in a comic. Or at least a fan comic that has a good story and some well written characters.

@@joseygallegos1011 TheMedineer over on NexusMods made a mod for Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered that replaces Doc Ock's character model with Carnage's from Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 to make Monster Ock. It's not perfect due to the limitations of the modding tools, so cutscenes are jank, but the final boss is where the mod shines.

His bio states that carnage ock was made just for this game and would only be seen here. However I believe one of the recent spider man shows did have him which is dumb since monster ock should remain a legend only associated with this game.
I used to literally fear for my life on this level. No enemy encounter in any game I've played since has matched the intensity - nay, the horror - that is Monster Ock. The chase is relentless. The environment is unforgiving. Monster Ock was the stuff of nightmares and struck sheer terror into my heart.
StruttinStrayCat Venom was also really freaky as a boss. He murders u in close combat and if u try to run away too far, he will pull you towards him and whack you. Add to the fact that he can go stealth, and u have an equally memorable boss fight. Literally the only game I have played where the enemy can use stealth against you.

Monster Ock is still one irritating prick
Monster Ock and Nemesis are the only bosses I know that are f****** Relentless and genuinely terrifying. Monster Ock wants you dead and doesn't care that the whole place is going to explode, if he catches up to Spider-Man, he will repeatedly and brutally stab him to death with its tentacles even after he had long since given up the ghost and with the place exploding it's not hard to imagine that your body and Monster Ock got well and thoroughly cremated. Nemesis is equally brutal and equally fast and follows you throughout (almost) the entirety of Resident Evil 3, hell-bent on your death, much like a organic version of a Terminator.
I gotta agree. I think invincible villains can always be done well, but I think they're most effective in action games, when you've gained a confidence that you can tackle anything with the right move. The helplessness is multiplied.
This is the definition of high stakes high tension.

Nope. Having my 60 GB Fat-Lady for ten Years now and it still works perfectly fine. Over the Years i had some Freezing Problems though with forced Restarts, making the Console shuttting down with some startling double Bleeps, where i thought it was gone for good. But it always booted up again. So.. Good Karma or a very special Example of its Line. And some good Treatment.
Selling it soon though.

Or be much SMARTER and simply download the EPSXE PS1 emulator and download the game. Not only it's going to way more flexible BUT it's also going to look 10X better than the PS1 or PS3 version of the game thanks to the amazing options the emulator has.
Also it's going to make the game look like it was ACTUALLY meant to be on 1080P and not PS1.
But you got to see how amazing it is to believe me. Seriously I use the PS1 and PS2 Emulators for the older games because they are not only much better but they are ALSO going to make the games look FAR BETTER.
Remember the "HD REMAKES" PS3 games that was ported from the PS2 and it looked better but still wasn't much different? The Emulator ACTUALLY does a BETTER job than the developers did with those games.
Even games like the Devil May Cry 1-2-3 and God of War I-II looks FAR BETTER on the EMU than the PS3 HD versions.
It really shows how dangerous and terrifying a villain is if Spider-Man’s only option is to run.
Also, seeing venom as a good guy and chilling with the heroes is actually pretty cool

I was nervous playing this. Monster Ock was a scary boss. Making it a chase instead of a fight was genius. Made it really frightening
Would've been a little overkill anyway seeing as you had to fight both Doc Ock and Carnage back to back.

Carnage scares the absolute shit out of me. Watching this video made it more worse as the way he says "die" and the noises at 0:27. Not to mention the way he brutal kills you once he chases you.
Its fun how im petrified of Carnage yet im a huge fan of The Joker who was villian that inspired the creation of Carnage.

So what i meant was if you played this part of the game (where symbiote Doc Ock chases you) once he catches you. He kills by constantly stabbing you with his metal tenticals. 1. Monster Ock himself
2. Monster Ock Icon
3. The sound he makes
4. Him chasing you until you escape
5. The fact you in a dark claustrophobic vent
6. The way he stabs you when getting caught
7. He never slows down and if you far away from him he will catch up easily.
8. It takes like 3-4 minutes to escape from a place that’s about to blow up

Donte williams That's how most games are. When you stray too far away from the computer, they can instantly catch up to you to keep the tension going. This type of thing hap[pens in racing games a lot.

This is the most terrifying game experience from my childhood that I can think of. Running from Carnage/Doc Oc got my heart racing more than anything.
This last boss was basically my childhood. Took me forever to beat it bad when I did I can still remember my heart pumping a million miles per hour

As scary as Monster Ock was, I find it even more scary that Spidey just leaves Cassidy to die and never mentions it.
Spidey might spare criminals, but if he stuck around to carry Cassidy on his back he would have definitely been killed by Octopus Carnage.

So I had no idea what he was saying because of that nightmarishly distorted voice that still frightens me to this day. My god I would not have the guts to live if I saw that in real life with that same nightmarish voice....chasing me...I would just shoot myself because mt god that is the scariest thing I've ever seen.

Lol.. While he is blind, he can still see things. He has something called Radar Sense which determines the location of objects in the environment by use of reflected sound waves. So in a way, he can still his cards.
But there are pictures on the cards. He can only "see" the shapes of objects, not the colors or whatever is printed on them.
You're right. Unless his Radar Sense is stronger than we think, he shouldn't be able to play.

I have never played this game, but heard about this doctor octopus. Jesus this is actually fucking intimidating to watch, looks hard and intense as hell. Being a metroid fan I used to be scared of the S.A.X. in Metroid Fusion and this reminds me of all the times you have to hide from it or the one time where it chases you through a bunch of rooms while you are at low health, now that was fucking terrifying, even to this day I dislike encountering that guy. This Ock looks even worse though. I guess enemies that can annihilate you and proceed to chase and hunt you are the scariest one's, because it is so ominous and intense as you are running for your life with a monster at your heel.
Having played this game, and Metroid Fusion, I can agree with what you said. You can imagine how tense it'd be if you had a long chase sequence in Metroid Fusion where the 10 SA-X were chasing after you. This Monster Ock chase was gut wrenching as a kid with how long it was, and how precise you had to be with each movement, as one of those turbines could trip you up, or if you swing into a wall by mistake. Or if you were like me and didn't know how to web-zip straight up.
I watched my older brother play through fusion and remembered the SAX chase halfway through the game in sector 2 where you have to run and shoot him with ice missiles. I dreaded that moment and I died so many times when I got there as a six year old. Its especially unnerving how when you are in the tunnel you can hear him but can't see him, and as you drop down, you may just land in front of him and get shot from behind.
+Lord Phill There's a guy here on TH-cam named Lancun, he has an awesome playthrough of Metroid Fusion and get goes into detail on why the SA-X is so scary. He said it's because you SHOULD feel helpless in that game, since Samus has lost so many of her suits functions and powers, so your only option is to run and hide. And even when you're not encountering him, there are still signs of its presence such as walls being completely destroyed, or doors being broken, as well as the sequences where you could just be walking and it'll show up, and you just have to STAY STILL and wait for it to pass, hoping you don't alert it, otherwise it'll turn around and search for you. I really feel like they should make a remake of Metroid Fusion for the WiiU, and highlight some of the fear you feel when dealing with the SA-X, and add new sequences of running from it.
