Richard is such a genuine man. My brother suffered a major psychotic break a number of years ago, and a huge part of his recovery was writing a story based around the events of Helm’s Deep but from the perspective of the child soldiers. It helped him work through his feelings of broken worthlessness, bringing life and meaning to these children that are shown for mere seconds in the films. He sent a copy of his story to Richard and received the most heartfelt response. What a fantastic human being to use his time to not only respond to a letter like my brother’s, but to have clearly read the whole thing and even say he would read it to his children. This interview helps show how much he has on his plate and how passionate he is about his projects, but he still took the time to give a complete stranger his undivided attention. What a lovely man. ❤
Really appreciate this interview. As an artist and content valuer for fellow creatives I value escapism. But, it's important to balance this alongside our value of the actual world and communities we live in and not to look too much beyond it.

Good to hear Richard as always, and I haven't seen Mark since we worked at Village Cinemas in Hamilton in the 90s. Good times!
I love books and libraries too. Keep the Weta Library Richard!

A very interesting interview. As a film maker this is fantastic.
His voice always remind me the appendice of LOTR since my childhood.
Thank you for sharing 💯🎯 (I'm a Generation X GamerDad by the way, from Auckland.)
