Yeah ridiculous, the robo rat was just stupidly long. Should have been considered stealing having this in an arcade.
@@darklordojeda I'm starting to think that the Robo Rat has a higher HP than Robo Manus.
Having played the game, yes, the enemies do have a lot of HP, but the charge attack does less than it looks like it should. But if you want to do a no hit, it's the way to go.

I remember playing this on the Rare Replay for Xbox One. It’s extremely tough, the final boss is particularly stressful. I’ve seriously never had any game make me concentrate as much as the final boss.
Robo Manus is a pain in the ass. He seriously causes anxiety lol

Wow. Rare made this, Donkey Kong Country, and Killer Instinct all in the same year.
They were truly one of the most talented people in the industry
And they’re all making extremely good comebacks with 2013 Killer Instinct, Donkey Kong country: Tropical Freeze, and the 2019 Battletoads,
@@-Unidentified_Comment- I'd disagree with the Battletoads game. Also Donkey Kong Country Returns was the comeback game for Donkey Kong Country in 2010 for the original Wii and then later 3DS.
@@DominikSobolewski 🤨 What do you mean, the new Battletoads game is an amazing game that differentiates itself from all of the other games with its overall smoother style while still being a great challenging edition to the franchise but I can understand fine if you disagree, I know that they made another Kong Country game I just wanted to use the more recent example

I remember that snake boss use to freak me the hell out when I was a kid at the arcades.
Part of me wishes they kept making Battletoads like this, where they kept the cartoony graphics but upped the intensity everywhere else.

I know. Its kinda weird having the whole game be one genre, and then the final boss comes in and everything you learned about the game doesn't matter because all the sudden everything changed.
(Then again, I played Kirby games so...)

It's as if the developers didn't know what genre Battletoads should be, so they were like "screw it, Battletoads is everything"
Actually I dont remember which versions I played as a kid (definetly not this one), but there always was like the famous bike sections, and there was a little spaceship part too that was hard to not die a couple times but had pretty cool and fun movement, it always keep changing the gameplay kinda like Nier Automata cameras.
I'm just now realizing he's grabbing the big rats by their balls and punching them... in the balls! 😯

One of the few fond memories I had in junior high was having an hour long session with my physical ed teacher on this beast of a game during an end of the school year party at an old rollerblading rink.
We got our asses kicked, but damn was it a blast.

I never noticed that during the General Slaughter fight, there's text that tells you how to run.
This game is incredible the blood and decapitations is different from the nes/snes version definitely & the body part transformations r even more badass. Wish they made a movie out of this like the TMNT!!
This just makes the new Battletoads look worse by comparison and the makes me appreciate Streets of Rage 4 even more by how much respect they had for that game when designing it. This game dead ass, has a grab animation where you grab the dick of a rat mutant and punch him square in the balls repeatedly. Pure gold.
Lets not forget turning your hand into a drill and drilling into them till there bones and the detail on the characters

What I expected from the new battletoads: Something like this, but more improved upon. A beat em up with gore, brutal combos and funny moments.
What I got: Failed 90's battletoads cartoon
Atleast it has nice animation.
Most games nowdays have realistic models or sprites, and not even good Sprites like the SNES or Genesis sprites, just 2-bit pixel's on each other.
Now this are the Toads at their finest! Heavy Metal and violence, not that "Tumblrtoads" crap.
@AT Productions In 2019 there was a remake of the Battletoads. They were way less, let's say, "Biker Mice from Mars'', and more like Invader Zim.
Not bad, but a radical change. The main charm of the toads were looking like an edgier version of the 80s TMNT, not a generic Nickelodeon cartoon.
Hell, they even got rid of sexy dangerous Dark Queen, and they changed her for a really flat version of herself
After this comment I had to look up this new Battletoads and quite frankly, I'm saddened. It looks so extra and unnecessarily cartoony. Like I'm fine with it being cartoony but god, they dont even look good at all.
The fact that such a thing existed at all is sad. Yea, glad I still have this as my memory of the toads.
That new game makes me sick just looking at it.
Whoever all was behind that needs be strapped down & have THIS game blasted into their eyes Clockwork Orange-style.

It's a shame this arcade version hasn't been released onto any console. Not even as a vol 1 or a part of a classics collection port. Unless, I'm just not aware of it. If anybody knows otherwise please let me know as this was the type of beat em' up game I would love to play even now! And great job @Shadowserg for an awesome display of skills and gameplay!

I love how the SNES "Battletoads in Battlemaniacs" reuses/shares the same sprites and art style from the arcade game here. This is definitely what the new game should have looked like instead of it's ugly style.

Someone please send me back to the 80s when video arcade's were at their peak and all people from all walks of life, bullies, nerds, foreigners, locals and even the adverage joe working man could find common ground and perhaps even establish a friendship simply because they shared a common interest in a more than one person sidescroller beat'em up arcade game. If people still had video arcade's there'd be no need for any of today's hypocritical, stereotypical, racist, man/women-hating bullcrap. Because we'd all share something we like and get along because of it.

I have never seen bosses take so many hits before. This is totally a battle of attrition. Most people including me would give up, because of the repetition and sheer boredom of how long it takes to beat bosses in this game. It takes some serious mental fortitude to be that attentive for that amount of time, doing super repetitive things. Especially with a bad ending like that. I would totally feel ripped off.
That's what it was about. To drag out the game as much as possible for the cash grab. Especially for the 90s.
Pure visual aesthetic pleasure.

Looks great. Traditional Battletoads for sure. The background music is a bit repetitive and generally battletoads music is pretty catchy and on par with Mega Man 2 and 3 music.
Thanks to this game, I now say “MISSION COMPLETE” when I beat a level now.

Wait - why do you not start with full-health, lol? And why do you start with 29 credits, but then you suddenly have 28 in the second level?! I'm not criticizing; I genuinely don't know. I don't even remember this in the arcades, tbh. For that matter, if this is an arcade game, why does it say "Press Start" for P2 and not "Insert Quarter"? Do I have some fundamental misunderstanding about this whole thing, ROFL?

This game took so long to come out, I waited for years for it to come out on a console but never did ☹️.
It's missing an ACTUAL story. Because of the cuts they did, it lost the story.

Seems they cancelled this on the SNES because it performed poorly in arcades. 1990s Rare made good games but garbage business decisions.
I will always wonder why this is the only game in the series with the bloody violence. All the other game's are toned down way more then this and it's weird.
They wanted to join in on what was making money in the arcades. Mortal Kombat arcades at the time were kicking butt. Hence why Battletoads Arcade uses the letter K.
The final boss was literally just Contra

@@MatthewTheWolf2029 This is the case for every single game that was converted from Arcade to NES. In order to run Battletoads on console, it required so much compression to be able to fit the games onto the cartridge. My mind still melts when I see that the Battletoads NES rom is 257 kilobytes.

Fun bit of Trivia: turns out that a boss fight and an extra stage ended up cut from this game.
Where you fight Karnath is where you should've battled General Oink (and saved Santa Claus), and the end of stage 4 (with the hover packs) is where Karnath would've been.
The missing stage is one called "Brain Chase" -- maybe we would've battled Silas Volkmire?
Also Pimple for the win!
The battletoads have never properly defeated silas volkmire so that sounds interesting.
@Wilson Nascimento Some people did a bit of a mechanics breakdown... Karnath is completely invincible for the first 30 seconds of the fight, meaning each hit does nothing more than to make him angrier.

I've always considered this game the most inpressive Battletoads game but there's no denying what a mess it is in terms of design at times. The fact that there's no true Dark Queen boss fight makes this feel pretty incomplete in retrospect.
Easily the best Battletoads game, and probably my favorite beat-em-up of all time; ironically, despite being an arcade game, it is also probably the least bullshit Battletoads game in terms of difficulty.

@@Don_Porculio have you played the Nes and SNes versions of the game? those are extremely difficult and unlike this one have several very unfair racing levels. Beat those games but man they were a pain in the ass.

@GBProductions84 Not to mention the pelvic thrusting and grabbing a miniboss by the 'nards. One of the rat enemies is even named "Gonad", haha. It's a very juvenile M-Rating, but I love it that way.

A Battletoads tradition actually.
This was one of my favorite childhood arcade games. I always thought that the graphics of this game were fantastic. I was never able to make it past the giant robot rat on the Dark Queen’s battleship, and I never will. The arcade cabinet was at a rollerskating rink in Swanton that closed in 2011.
You could always get it on rare replay and get infinite lives, or use an emulator, just sayin’
@@treydagamester07 It's been years later, but I finally managed to play the game through an online emulator, and I beat the Robot Rat, and the entire game. It was an incredible experience.

I call this My "Family Reunion Game" when our family had birthday parties at a local pizza place. my brothers, cousins and I would all share quarters and take turns to try to beat the game. after a few birthday parties and a butt load of quarters Later, we all beat the game. good times
I noticed how the Dark Queen's hologram reacts to Robo Rat getting hit.
I wanted to see how she reacts when the player gets hit, but I remembered: this is Shadowserg!
I'm pretty sure she just laughs like she does when you enter the arena.
