    How many litres of atf does the gearbox use

    I have same gearbox but its in a 2003 mitsubishi outlander ( airtrek in usa), did you find any clutch shudder issues using that oil?
    Dexron not correct oil for that gearbox, so wouldn't be surprised if you get a lock up clutch shudder in 4th gear around 70km/hr.
    No problems? Correct oil is sp111 type by mitsubishi or hyundai, interested to hear how it went.

      No problems using dexron. Trans still shifts perfect.

    why didn't you change the oil filter?

    • @alexsbikesandmotors
      @alexsbikesandmotors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no filter on my transmission. Older versions of the f4a42 trans had a spin on filter but my 02 doesnt have one. There is an internal screen but it requires remove the trans oil pan. Its not really meant to be replaced.

    For some reason my atf stick won’t come out. It’s stuck

    • @alexsbikesandmotors
      @alexsbikesandmotors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could try spraying it with wd40 and grabbing it with vise grips. Worst case you break the dipstick but you can get another one at a junkyard for a couple bucks usually.

    Great video bro! But what about the filter?

    • @alexsbikesandmotors
      @alexsbikesandmotors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There's no filter on this transmission. There is an internal screen but you gotta drop the pan to get to it. At some point they added a spin-on trans filter to these cars but my 02 doesnt have it.

    To have an accurate reading on the dipstick, drive around 5 miles then stop, keep the engine on, go through the gears from neutral all the way down to L, then back to park, posing 3 seconds on each gear, go all the way down again to L then up, stop on D which is drive then turn the engine off, the gear should be on D and the engine off before you check the dipstick. Wait for about 5 minutes then check. You need to check the dipstick multiple times to get the accurate reading.

    • @alexsbikesandmotors
      @alexsbikesandmotors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That's wrong. The Mitsubishi service manual for the 03 Lancer says check fluid level in neutral with the engine running. I can email you the manual in a pdf if youd like.

    • @comali2212
      @comali2212 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexsbikesandmotors I checked it on neutral with the engine running, with each dip, it gives a different reading, overfilled or below the normal level. a Mitsubishi mechanic told me to do this method and it was the only method that gave the accurate reading.

    • @alexsbikesandmotors
      @alexsbikesandmotors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@comali2212 if you check with the engine off itll show much higher than the actual level. So if it reads full with engine off, the actual level is much lower. This is true for every automatic transmission.
