I had a 74 ram air that I rebuilt the 400. Found some ram air heads and put a comp mag 292 cam in with flat top forged pistons. That thing was pretty awesome, so I can only imagine what this will do!

I don’t know about the R A casting, that’s cool though. Those heads are pretty rare cause were one year only. The manual trans cars came with the same "041" cam which was used in the later Ram Air 4 engines, but used 1.5 ratio rocker arms, but the RA4 engines used 1.65 rockers. Awesome build

I’ve never seen that block before. I’ve worked on a lot of late 60’s and 70’s stuff. I got into the trade early 70’s . The fuel pump on the back is what got me. I can’t imagine with headers if it doesn’t promote fuel boiling and vapour locks sometimes common in older vehicles

Fuel pumps on these engines are on the left front. What looks like the fuel pump on the right rear is the oil filter bracket.

Those bore/stroke numbers mean the engine is "under-square" as i'm sure you know. Most factory original v8's of the era were "over-square". I had a 1969 GTO Judge with the Ram Air 400 bought used 1n 1980. I STILL regret selling it. It would FLY.

Most of the bigger cubic inch Poncho's were over square, but that's more than likely why they are so torquey 😁

Can take advantage of the higher piston speeds of longer stroke with a warmer cam and might as well use dual quad carbs providing 1 barrel per cylinder.Lightened aluminium flywheel and solid lifters. Then try it.

A wild guess would be around 450 HP. The factory style aluminum intake really limits HP. Everyone thinks because it was PMD's highest HP intake that it works really good. The problem was because of low hood clearance and factory ram air, they had to make the intake shorter which made the plenum way to small.
