Recently I played in the PGA playing ability test and spent a couple days on the road and living in a hotel. That gave me a two day glimpse into what you’re doing every week or two. It’s actually really impressive to see how you can be on the road, adjust to new golf courses so quickly and play well. I shot 92 and 93 in my two rounds. Someone else shot a 123 in one round! And we’re trying to be teaching pros lol. Keep your head up (and down) and keep grinding. One week it’ll come together and you’ll be in a tour event Thomas!
@@thomaschristensengolf got to retry on the future. The number for two rounds is 157. So I need a 78 and 79 at minimum to make it. Don’t need to learn golf again I just need to get the ball in the hole quicker
@@Daniel-36 You can do it 🫡 good thing is now you know what it’s going to be like every time you try and that’ll help speed up the learning process. Let me know how it goes next time you try.
genuinely curious who has a better shot, Thomas making it to a monday q or this guy getting his pga card? I lean Thomas but do keep us posted on getting your scores down by 28 strokes
Thanks! Win some and lose a lot more, but that’s ok. Glad to hear your son is a fan! Hope he loves the game as much as I do. Appreciate the support and thanks for following along
Great insight with the vlogs my man, stumbled across the channel by accident and now seriously enjoying it! Really impressive handling the disappointment, I’d be absolutely seething! 😂 You’re getting close to getting that next step up so keep it up!
Thanks! Getting better, stats say so. Gotta be resilient in this game because you lose a lot more than you win😂 glad you enjoy the vids I have fun making them
Yeah I figured. Those zoom in shots hurt lol. I watch tons of TH-cam videos and this would probably be my first comment on youtube. Do a WITB before your channel gets big so we can see the changes later. Reach out to Evan Thompson since he is here. Maybe do a collabo 🎉
@ yeah 😂 and thanks for the feedback. I like hearing what other people want to see makes me think about what I could post on off weeks. A collab would definitely help my channel too.
Thank you! I may try that. I appreciate the feedback as I’m always trying to make the videos better. If there’s anything else you want to see, let me know 🫡
Unfortunately, it’s kind of long to type out but it’s kind of a mix of movements that I’ve learned from when I became TPI certified, past trainers, and yoga. I’ve generally figured out which movements I need to do to play my best (still perfecting that) and so I do them as much as I can in the gym, and before playing. I don’t record all of what I’m doing in these because then the video would be hours long.
another big issue that Thomas is going to face is that the tour is cutting down fields, eliminating several monday q's, and reducing the field for other mondays. The korn ferry doesn't pay the bills for most even if you make it on tour, let alone make a couple of events a year. Where do you see yourself in 3 years and how will you get there?
the 100th player on the KFT money list this year made 87k, the travel alone for a season + caddy cut/weekly stipend is more than 87K. So you will need to finish probably around 60th on the KFT to even make the same wage you would as a McDonalds manager. Remember TC to my knowledge has never even made it to a Monday Q on the KFT, let alone played in an event. This just isn't sustainable, I am not trolling or a hater, I just see this as a situation with a family with a lot of money who have never said no to their kid. If he didn't have rich parents do you actually think this guy would be trying to become a professional golfer? No, b/c there is no way he could afford to not work and just play golf everyday.
Yes, but at the same time that’s not a reason to give up. Also it is bold of you to assume all I do is play pre Qs and make TH-cam videos. I’m still an amateur, have lots of different events and opportunities lined up, and I have a long term plan that includes things other than golf. This could take a few years, but steady improvement over time is good. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Hope you follow along.
@@thomaschristensengolf clearly you’re trying to become a TH-cam golfer which I think is a much better idea than trying to go pro. Micah morris also tried to say he was going pro and it flopped badly. The amateur events that you refer are confusing, I thought you’re trying to become a pro why would you waste your time playing against college kids and realtors?
@ Actually the original goal to this was to just have some stuff to look back on later in life that reminded me of what I was doing at the time. If it takes off that’s a plus. Also, if you do some research about amateur golf you’ll find that there is a rapidly increasing number of opportunities to earn professional starts if you manage it correctly and play in the right events. Global amateur pathway, the elite amateur series, certain country amateur events like the U.S. am, the amateur championship, the Canadian am and others earn you starts into tour events. If you turn pro, you keep yourself from those opportunities, which, as you know, would not be beneficial to making the tour especially with the decreasing amount of opportunities in Monday qualifiers. Also, this is just the tip of the iceberg so just know that there is a lot more going on than what you see in a 25 minute video.
@@thomaschristensengolf fair, but just to be clear, if you make any of those events as an amateur you are not allowed to cash a check and so I again don't understand the business decision behind that. I think it shows that you have zero financial pressure and really just want to say you played in a pro event not looking to make this a career.
No sponsor yet, working on it. These videos are starting to help. We do a good job figuring out what is cheap and applying for and using points. Also lucky to have parents who support me. Eventually it’ll just be me so figuring that out. Thanks for the support!
I’m a top amateur and trying to understand how do you and other people have money for these tournaments? Sponsors from your club/family? extra work/side hustle? Got lucky with a rich family? Genuinely curious
Usually for anyone it’s a combination of all of it. Many guys I know work a lot as caddies to make money and earn free golf privileges at nice courses. This allows them to save for tournaments. They make friends when they travel so that when they play at the same place in the future they have a place to stay for free, or they find host families through the tournament. Or sometimes guys will split costs with their friends when they travel. Lots of guys have sponsors in some form who help them. I’m working on that myself. I’ll say to add to that we do lots of deal shopping and just figure out what is the cheapest possible way to get there and back and stay there without it being unsafe or anything. I’m lucky that my parents support me, but I’m working to get to a point where I can do this on my own. Either way you want to make it as inexpensive as possible, so you do a fair amount of planning and shopping to figure that out. Hope this helps.
If you are a top amateur then people literally give you money if you know how to network. If you are under 25, you can get a full ride to any college in the USA now with NIL. After that you can get a teaching job anywhere. In my country of residence now, the top ams played various levels of tour, some as pros and stopped pro golf because they are already from wealthy families. Being an amateur is a status of wealth in golf, even to this day. When I played AJGA the kids from Bradenton academy were tough to beat. Money is an advantage in life, but you can outsmart money who is lazy easily. I would win several hundred dollars a month as a young teenager gambling with older people. Every round I'd find a bet. I socially engineered free golf. Then I leveled up to gambling with local pros and would take their money too. Lee Trevino and Vijay did similar things. You have to have hustle to make it in anything.
You already got a hater. Appreciate every single one. I bet you don't make many in real life. A successful person balances 50% ride or die fans with 50% haters. 100% you can qualify, but all of these are basically just for the experience. Golf is unforgiving and a lot of times just luck based momentum at this level. Let yourself get lucky. Watch Bryson, think attack all of the time. He implodes 90% of the tournaments he plays each year and he will be remembered like Arnold Palmer someday. The profit, and while I definitely wouldn't respond to this, is being a fit, normal looking white male who is really good at golf. That by default gets you 7 figures at Goldman Sachs if you decide to grind that game. You already won life. Enjoy every moment of being young because someday you won't be able to play competitively.
Thanks, I really appreciate everything you said. You’re spot on with the experience part. I also agree with the approach to attack all the time. I’ve made a lot more birdies that way. Grateful for all of the things that got me here, including all my years in school earning a valuable degree. Also really appreciate the support. Thanks for following along :)

I've played in a few Mondays for the PGA Tour, and know many people who have got through who are well worse than him. When you shoot 4 shots under the rating in a tournament setup by the tour then let me know. I can tell you one thing he has going for him is calm and determination. Just because he's not poor doesn't mean he should go for it. You have zero chance being poor in this game these days. The guy made a 14 in Q-School and posted his videos. I would have smashed the hotel room up in that spot. That fire might be why I'm successful in other things, but in golf, you have no chance being too intense. I'll leave by reminding you and everyone again that tournaments are putting tournaments. Everyone can hit the ball. If you've ever followed Tiger or Phil they are all over the map. They hit it everywhere. There's a reason Scott Hoch isn't in the Hall of Fame.
