*_Firstly,_* sorry about the audio in this one! The room had quite a bit of echo and I'm not quite sure what I could've done to help alleviate that. And my mic on my shirt wasn't recording so my audio isn't great but Cam's mic was working so that's all good because what he's saying is more important anyways. *_Second,_* I know this is a pretty technical video so there will probably be alot of questions: *Face angle:* Refers to where the face is pointed in relation to the TARGET. *Face to Path:* Refers to where the face is pointed in relation to the PATH of the stroke. So the face can be open in relation to where the path is going, but if that path is going left enough, the face can still be left of the TARGET, just as it was in this video The device Cam is using to measure all these things with the stroke is called a SAM Putt Lab, really expensive product but gets solid stroke data which is important because 1 degree open or closed is very hard to see with the naked eye or on slowmo video. But with something like this it gets much more precise data. Obviously with a grain of salt because technology isn't always perfect. Understanding proper expectations on how many putts you should make is important mentally and really your sanity lol From 11 feet if you're trying to aim the putter at the middle of the hole but you aim the putter *ONE degree offline*, you're now no longer aiming at the hole and you'll miss that putt. I know this was more of a fly on the wall kind of video watching my lesson but for you guys you can try finding a straight line to hit putts on and record your stroke from a slightly higher view angle so you can see your stroke path and slow mo it down so you can see if your face is shut or open. This way you can see what you need to work on in your stroke just like I found in this lesson. Obviously won't be as precise data from watching back a video of your stroke than from a SAM Putt Lab but its definitely a great starting point!
Hi Luke, the only option in an echo room is close miking. You need the clip on mics as close to the gob as possible. Even then you might have to gate the audio in post. Audio on video is indeed a thing.
He's on skillest, it's pretty pricey, but I do a lesson like twice a year so I thought why not get a quality instructor for it this time. His feedback was amazing. He's really an incredible coach. I think its really cool that people can have access to a coach like that.
I really love these putting instruction videos because everyone can relate to them. With full swing videos, it's tough to learn a lot when a guy like Luke is getting a lesson because most of us can't even come close to swinging like Luke does. But the putting struck we can all (mostly) copy and learn.
Kwon’s reaction @ 18:15 regarding the ball roll on the first putt after the tweaks is unreal! Golfer of this skill level still being surprised gives us all hope! Great video. Keep up the great content.
Luke, the putting right from the start was impressive. You made like ten thousand putts in a row!!! This teacher is very sharp and you're both analytical. You have good chemistry, it's great to see you listen and work with him.
I just had a putter fitting this past week and this was such a great video talking about all the small details that go into putting. Amazing video for anyone to learn more about putting or how to practice.
superb content. Dont think for 1 minute this is too detailed. There are a lot of us who love this stuff - just cant afford or have access to have it for ourselves.
This was awesome! I recently got a putting lesson and learned I was aiming left and pushing my puts on line. Making that slight adjustment got the ball starting on line much more consistently and putting is fun again. Putting lessons like the one you had are so helpful and I'm glad you shared it with us.
Good lord I love Cam McCormick. Incredible person and coach. Love that he helps lead golfers to the realization instead of simply stating the problem. *Also, you could do like what Will Zalatoris does on the course. Pull your shirt and “pinch” some of the fabric in your armpit. Like an “on-course” towel drill.
Thanks for sharing Luke! I have had a problem of a cut stroke for as long as I have played golf and searching for a solution. Belly putter, long putter, left hand low, the claw, and last but not least the arm lock. The right shoulder inflection is what I have been missing all along. Thanks again for sharing!
The way the coach treat putting strike is just next level, this is so impressive, and totally natural at the end: path and face, like in the swing. Lot of bad feeling in front of the ball before putting can be explained with these ideas. Thank you Luke and Mr McCormick!
Thank you for the mechanics on putting. I'm trying. sprinkle Micah. you too are the best. mindset is there. my game is getting good good. love you all. keep it up. where we go one we go all!
Keeping your hands under your shoulders and making sure they don’t go away from your thighs is a simple yet great tip. I struggle with a pull on my stroke so I’ll definitely be implementing that thought
Great video Luke…I tucked my shirt to my trail arm and got the ball going end-over-end, so your video has made a huge difference to my putting. Thank you!
putting (to me) seems to be the only hiccup in your game when you're playing your (TH-cam) matches seriously and not just "entertaining". Short and right seems to be your majority miss. You get that locked in and it's elite mode... again! But what do I know... Great Video. great Insight. Everyone should be playing (or at least practicing) with lines on their ball to see how they roll. Straight doesnt mean end over end. Love these videos!
Love this type of content Kwon. Really helps me as well.. Would love a bit more of these types, also you training, and maybe talk about what u think about when ur warming up or training. ❤❤❤❤
Hey Luke, great episode. I’ve had an out to in stroke in my putting for years and it’s so hard to find content on it, eg how to fix and what causes it. I took a lot out of this, hopefully rolling some more birdies soon!
GOLF!!! Always a work in progress!!😂 Amazing how quick a good teacher can pick up on what the issue is. CM is so good about explaining it so you understand too. Great stuff.
Are you going to have to adjust Toe Hang degree on the putter if your path back is more inside and/or does toe hang also help initiate the correct arch takeaway? I would think this could be an equipment adjustment solution, also. Just like all (conscious) tweeks to our swing, it only works as a good swing thought when it works. Equipment adjustment for such a minute change might work and be a "thoughtless" correction than changing your swing points.
Loved this. Explained to me why I feel like I need to make micro adjustments on my follow through and it's Bec I make same backswing as Luke and have to also adjust
Excellant coach, great analysis, using technology and a great eye, of course it wasn’t the follow through but the swingpath on the backswing, have to address the first point of contention, which caused the compensation on the impact and followthrough = left with an open blade,
You’re obviously already a great putter, but the difference was still clear when your backstroke was changed to start arcing a little more to the inside. Very cool lesson!
Nice vid Luke, did your neck on the putter ever get looked at?.. as in, is the one you have now the correct shape for your arc ?… I’ve had a few fittings on the putter, had a full hip replacement also in the middle of it, but gladly the different companies all said the same, a mallet putter but with a slant neck…. Taylormade and PXG and a local well know golf course to me, the Celtic manor 🏴. Fantastic putting vid though…. 🫵🏼🏌🏼♂️👍🏼🇺🇸🏴
That one drill( 3 point?) down hill 1 yard apart - that was as good as it gets man! Awesome! This was much more interesting than I thought it might be!! But, you putt well look forward to that even getting better... But, Dude, come to Oregon give me 45 minutes and I'll have you knocking in every putt either addressing orthodoxly or with eyes shut, standing on one leg, hat backwards, and holding putter between legs - your choice....
Is it a new thing to give GG apparel to all the instructors in these videos? Garret's instructor had one as well. Bartering? Great lesson, easy to understand.
Interesting video, Kwon. I wish I could have followed the logic better. Unfortunately, even though I may understand something logically or intellectually, I may not be able to convert that into action. I do so much by feel. If someone can get me to make a change and I can “feel” it, I can duplicate it better. Did you feel the difference? Regardless, it was fascinating to be a fly on the wall and witness your lesson. Thanks for sharing.
I wonder how someone who’s known for their short game like Wesley would do on this drill. Seemed like your results were pretty great especially during the touch drill.
really enjoyed this video. To these very amateur eyes, it appeared that you allowed the ball to get in the way of a more confident stroke near the end. In the beginning, it seemed like you were guiding the ball just a bit. Happy for you that you were able to try an improvement that allows you to feel the difference as opposed to only analyzing everything. Good luck!
what if you put the ball back in your stance just a tad? wouldn't that effectively do the same thing assuming that you aren't putting it back so far that it affects the quality of the launch and roll?
I asked him the same thing but he said I would have to move the ball back about 4inches from where it is now for the path to be 0 degrees and at that point I would have a negative attack angle, causing the ball to be hit into the ground and backspin involved and all that lol. But yeah I had the same train of thought when I was there it mustve not been when the camera was rolling
