- Wanting to know how to sublimate on wood? Me too! Here is what worked for me using Minwax Polycrylic on natural and painted wood!
I picked up a few small pieces of wood to practice on from Michael's Dollar area and one piece from Dollar Tree.
You always want to make sure your wood is nice and smooth. Give it a light sanding to be sure. If you are wanting to sublimate on the natural wood, go ahead and add 2-3 light to medium coats of polycrylic, letting each layer dry completely between each. Once all it is completely dry, give it a very light sanding to make sure it has a nice even surface. Choose the image you want, get it printed, taped and ready. Then, you are able to press! I used the settings of 380 degree F for 60 secs. Let cool before removing the paper.
For painted, you will first paint your wood. I tried Rustoleum High Heat spray paint in white and basic acrylic paint! Both worked great! Let that dry completely and then follow the same steps as above!

Laminate sheets work well when sublimating on wood!!! 🤩
Thanks, boo! But I know! I talk about it in the video 😘
Thank you for your explanation it was very detailed and enjoyable! Great job!!
Thank you so much! I'm glad it was helpful! 💗
Thanks for the video, your video helped a lot. I appreciate videos for newbies like myself, that help us so very much!! Going to subscribe and watch more of your videos! Thank you!

Thank you so much! I'm happy to have you join! 💕
Super helpful thank you
I'm so glad it was helpful! 💕
I wonder if the high heat resistant paint might resist letting the paper attach at regular temp? Interesting. Thanks for the info!
I'm not sure, but if you test it out, I would love the feedback! 💕
You can spray your paint into a container/bowl and use that paint to paint with.
Thank you for sharing! I'll keep that in mind!
Just use acrylic white paint. Sand smoooth after painting dries. Then sublimate and spray with a gloss finish.
I'll give it a try! Thank you for sharing!
Ok i know this video is 6 months ago but since i cant find an explanation on google im here to ask you: what is wood sublimation?
It is simply doing the same process of sublimation, typically done on polyester, and trying it on wood.
@@KraftingWithKandace this doesn’t help me as my question is what is sublimation
I apologize, I didn't realize it was about sublimation in general and not directly to wood. In crafting terms, and to the best of my ability, sublimation is when you print an image on sublimation specific paper, (with sublimation specific ink and a special printer) and then heat press that image into your "blank", which in most cases is a polyester fabric. The heat takes the ink and turns it into a gas. The gas gets permanently trapped into the fabric. That being said, many are experimenting with several different materials, like wood, and many others. I hope that helps, however, I still consider myself new in this area!
Did you try the High heat paint without the Polycrylic?
I did not. It's my understanding that the Polycrylic is what makes it work. However, I'm still new to this and playing around with everything!
@@KraftingWithKandace I'm new to sublimation as well, but from past "woodworking" experience, the high heat paint wouldn't normally get a clear coat over it, especially a water based clear. I am pretty sure that I saw someone just using a piece of painted wood, no Polycrylic. We tested on bare wood the other day. I have a piece of wood with Polycrylic to test on today....and we might try just painting a piece white to see!!! Thanks for your reply!
Hi! I'm sorry I'm just watching this now BUT, I saw that you gads a hard time pulling off the paper. I feel like this is 'normal'. You need to take a small rag and water and clean off the wood with just water and it should clean up nicely and work! Let us know!
Thanks for the tips! I have since learned that trick, but I'm so glad you added it here for others to learn as well! 💕
