  • This is the DC metro's (WMATA) Orange Line Eastbound Full Ride (Front View)!
This is my second time doing a railfan video. They're some improvement on the video unlike the last video. The previous rail fanning video was contrasty due to the rail operator not turning on the headlights while underground. However this railfanning video now has improved lighting underground. And a rail operator did his job right by honking the horn and turning on the headlights. Which made the underground stations seeable. Sooner or later the orange line westbound video will get the deleted once retaked it right. But yeah enjoy the ride! I’ll also put down how to do railfanning on the front view on the WMATA metrorail pinned down in the comments.
Camera and equipment used in the video,
    - iPhone XS
    - Tape
    - Shot at 1080p 60fps (Fan Railer Style)

I do appreciate the 40K+ views on this video! A fellow commenter asked if there is a westbound portion of the line. I have the video published but it’s not public anymore, it’s unlisted. So if you’re willing to watch my mistake on the poor lighting underground and still see it the westbound portion regardless, here’s the link: th-cam.com/video/KrA4dry2LIQ/w-d-xo.html
As a bonus, I have an unreleased failed railfan video of the Blue Line from Franconia to Largo (if you can call it that) that was published but got private because the metrorail operator block my view of recording by placing a backpack on the left side of the window that I cringed out and have to end the video short. If you want to see it here’s the link as well: th-cam.com/video/Y_24itW6QOI/w-d-xo.html
The like ratio and the comments are disabled on those two videos. I honestly don't want any criticism on how good or bad it is on the railfan and especially people going mad or spam and point interest that was good on the video in the comments section. (*Clears throat* Jeremy Horwitz)
Again, thanks for the huge support!

Is there a webpage or email address through which to request permission to take cab view vids of entire metro lines?

    • @Reallynow101
      @Reallynow101 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

You can’t sit in the operator’s cab because the operator has to do left side door operations from the left side. It’s a safety issue.

According to the website, photography and filming is permitted at most stations, but filming on board buses and trains that are in service is prohibited. You can learn more here: www.wmata.com/about/media-relations/filming.cfm

@@davidng2336 Metro is public transit which is funded by taxpayers so your first amendment rights apply so you have every right to film/photograph on public city transit whether they like it or not. @@gluse This sadly doesn’t apply on the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) system in New York and New Jersey, which is the train I take to NYC. You need permission in order to take pictures of PATH. Otherwise photography is prohibited, including to the public. If they catch you, they will ask you to turn off the camera and delete the footage, otherwise the police will take it from you. The worst thing that happens if you don’t comply is arrest.
This is unfortunately the case with everything owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Airports, bridges, tunnels, maritime ports, the bus terminals, PATH, and even World Trade Center. This became much worse after 9/11 happened, and I received the PATH threat in April 2019 after they figured out I was recording.

Awesome, back in 2003 I got to spend a week (Canada Day & July 4) in the DC area visiting the in laws, who lived right near one of the orange line stations. Used it to do all the touristy stuff and I think the DC metro system is amazing. My town (Ottawa) has just started it's metro system (using LRT but it functions as a metro).

the term you are looking for is Super Elevated. the outside rail is banked. This enables the to hit curves at higher speed without slowing for the tight track curve it would normally have.

Alessandro J. Montaño After 6000 series carts or lower are still around after COVID-19 when metro is back in schedule, then yes, partially though. Because some of the lines the yellow and green line aren’t using the 6000 series carts or lower. So I may only do the orange and blue lines. I don’t know about the silver line. Because They’re extending the silver line to Londoun county VA. It’s like a two and a half hour commute ride. The only camera I use is my phone. If I record too long either my battery’s about to die, or my storage space is too high. So I may not do the silver line. Maybe the official WMATA TH-cam channel will have a Silver Line Ride along once they officially extended it.

I don’t know if it’s actually in the handbook, but you really know Metro’s PA announcements expert wise. You use to work with Metrorail before or you’ve ridden many times, that you start liking the PA announcements on the older Metrorail carts? Because to be honest I love the old PA announcements on the Dc metrorail before still to this day.

Cuz you know you're spamming the crap out of everybody's videos and it has angered some people on this platform. You know you can't do that! At least keep your comments to a minimum and only point out the specific varities, we don't need to know every single detail in I don't know how many comments. I know this video is wonderful.
