Hello Jules, This lens has interested me since it was announced. I like that it is a wider aperture than the more expensive 1.8. Also, it is a reasonable size (and I assume weight) than the ridiculously expensive 1.2. I am glad to see that your purchased and are reviewing it. Would be interested to see the results you had with the basketball shoot. BTW, did your niece actually eat that marshmallow? LOL! Anyway, thanks again, keep them coming!
@@leod1671 Thanks Leo. I’ll be shooting a high school basketball game on Dec. 11th with the 50 1.4 and the 135 1.8. Will post a video the following week.
Thanks for this review, one of the few out right now. I notice that this lens is being sold along with some of the Z cameras as a kit on B&H. Interesting to think about why they're doing that.
helpful review, thanks for all the sample images. I do have both the 1.8 and the 1.4 z mount, and at least for now plan on keeping them both for different situations. For exceptional clarity, sharpness and detail the 1.8; for a more pleasing overall look (a bit less perfection, but to my eye better for portraits and other situations) then the 1.4. Colors are great on both, just slightly different. Think the 1.4 will probably be my default.
Excellent review. Still difficult choice between 1.8s and this. No clear winner. Wide open 1.8's do much better job and colors have more punch wide open. 1.4 image look more pleasing though. Having used 1.4 now would you recommend 1.4 or 1.8 as both are almost equally priced now
@@riazukhan I have never shot the 1.8 Z mount. But I love the look of the 1.4 at 1.4. If I don’t need to shoot at 1.4 I have the excellent 24-70 2.8 zoom. Thanks for watching and your comments.

I hadn't noticed that they were selling it as kit. Thanks for watching.

Thanks Bob. Good to hear from someone who has both. The 1.4 has just what I wanted in a 50mm lens. Great for 3/4 and full length portraits.
