You have to understand that the vast majority of (European) football clubs started as a local sports club of a neighbourhood or of factory workers. They didn't start as a business. And most of them are still deeply rooted in the communities they spawned from. Ajax supporters and members even hated the fact Ajax moved WITHIN the city of Amsterdam. 😅 Moving cities is unthinkable.

True underdog story was Union Berlin. They used to be financially broke even they can't repair their own stadium, so their fans did free labours to repair their clubs and reise some fund for their operational cost. And they were in champions league on the previous season. And they've done it without any Hollywood dollars

Rangers vs Celtics rivalry was also had crazy background it was about Protestant v Catholic, native Scotts vs Irish immigrants. Imagine social and economy aspects as the ignition for a rivalry, and you add religion and ethnicity for your rivalry game. To put into perspective imagine a team that endorse by white supremacist vs a team that came from black movement play in the same stadium.

A fun fact about rivalries. Almost every big or medium city in football countries, have 2 teams of the same town, that fight in a bloody rivalry. imagine every city of NBA having a Lakers-celtics rivalry between 2 teams of the same city. We hate the rival with our souls.

You should react to AS Roma vs Lazio or River Plate vs Boca Juniors these are very fierce rivalries, there is a derby days videos on them very in detail and they do a lot of indepth interviews with local fans about the history of the rivalries I personally suggest the River Plate vs Boca one its probably the best rivalry in football imo, the river plate vs boca one is 50 minutes so maybe good stream material, to spice the video up it was done during the libertadores final between those 2 rivals really great material and would help u get into south american football or italian football with the lazio roma one.

In regards to the decision of choosing a club to follow, why does it always have to be an english club?
I know why, but still.... it gets on my nerves!
I'm not saying to start watching the Portuguese league, but does it always have to be the Premier League?
I like the Premier League ever since Man Utd won the Champions League in '98, but I'm so fed u with the Premier League sometimes. The actual Superleague!

But if your local club (if you have one) isn't doing well, and the national team has been mediocre for 10 years, it's understandable that football doesn't really interest you.
Matter of fact, most football fans in the world grew up playing it, so if you didn't, you probably won't understand much about the game, i.e. how to enjoy watching it.

Good job Luke , keep ‘converting’ your friends to the religion that is football 😂 if you don’t want Dillon to support a spurs rival, then you can also discount Chelsea and West Ham. They both hate Tottenham too 😅 I’d recommend Crystal Palace right now. Good club, great manager, on the up at the moment. Brighton if you want to take a bit more of a risk. You should look up a bit more about Brighton’s history, particularly the hard times when they had no stadium.

The main thing people hate isn't oil money, it's the corrupt rules that protect the top clubs and punish those who try to get there (such as PSR/FFP)
The super league is hated because, it's a closed league, meaning the same clubs will always compete, always receive more money boosting their PSR/FFP allowance to further protect them from clubs who are trying to close the gap, but since they will NEVER have that income from the super league will n ever be able to financially.

15:13 as both an arsenal fan and a philadelphia eagles fan (sorry luke lol), the closest I was able to see this kind of reasoning within american sports was during the 2020-21 NFL season in week 17, we were playing washington and we didn't have any chance of making the playoffs but we were well aware that if we lost, giants would also miss the playoffs.. long and behold, Doug Pederson took Hurts out of the game and instead put our second backup QB for the rest of the game 🤭😏 new york fans were PISSED lmao (oh and it was a primetime game hahaha)

As a West Ham supporter living in Dallas, I can honestly say we were ok with losing to city to assure Arsenal not winning the league. To be fair, we weren’t gonna beat them anyway and we had nothing to play for. But we were in the pub that is a west ham pub and a few Arsenal fans came to watch their match against Everton and we were SINGING and CHANTING in the highest of spirits knowing Arsenal was gonna come in second.

At first you can say "soccer" as much as you want, becuse moste of us then know that you dont talk about "american fotball!
In anyway if one talk "english".. I recon they have different name for the sport in different languages ower the world??
However.. or at least for what I know about Europe and South America, the fotball/soccer team is localy based, it representent ones city/town/comunity/borough! Its there fan-base.
In anyway it could be much nicer to watch a local match.. especialy if your friends/yours or your nabours kids/teenagers plays in one of the teams! Its altso a splendid oportunity to be social and suport your local team!
Soo, the clubs often rely on there fan base.. that often is members of there club, they pay to be members.. even if they dont play them self!
Soo.. nr2, in my country one often buy an "all home matches ticket" and membership is included!
Soo.. nr3, what about the money thats needed to compete in the highest league.. its payd by "sponsors" and other advertisments!
Nr 4, "sponsors" get there brand on the team jersyes, advertisers got there brand on the arena!
Enough about that.. and its different in every country!
What about the beauty of fotball/soccer.. its actualy about that its easy and cheap.. one only need a flat area and something to kick around! Preferely something that is similar to a fotball.. at least in Europe and USA!
But wait.. its more to it.. try some Copa Cabana Beach soccer.. its not flat, its on sand, its even more challeging!
