- Volvo Trucks’ 2017 family of D11 and D13 engines features a common-rail fuel injection system. The common-rail provides a more efficient burn, reduced noise and greater fuel efficiency and overall reliability.

i have 01 d12 with 1.755.000 miles running 3000 miles average week and in last 7 years i replaced only 1 injector and who knows how may gallons of oil change :) im very happy with it

Scania's are the best trucks, which surprised me, I thought Mercedes or M.A.N. were better. Not so according to a lifetime truck managing director and now trucking consultant whom I've known for 52 years.

More torque will be produced and more balanced will be there if two similar motion piston fires at the same time, not sequentially

Before 2017 the injectors would get 70psi fuel and the special cam would press on them to make the 30 000 psi. Basically each injector was its own fuel pump. Thi system is know to last a million miles before injectors need replacement. Also, if one fails, the other five would allow you to keep driving to the next truck shop. Common rail has a single high pressure pump. If that fails thats it. Tow truck... just look at the cummins isx notorious fuel pump issues
A lot of the earlier isx's were unit injector and they were junk

What is the cuz of white smoke of Volvo diesel engine? During operation?
I just wonder the sense of putting one cylinder head for the entire big 6 cyl. diesel, gasket issues? Piston damages occurs now and then = much easier to repair if each cylinder has it's own head.
While it is not a bad idea, there are several reasons to have one head. Apart from what you said of gasket issues, there is also the benefit of overall needing a bit less material and being overall stronger as one unit, and say being less complex and expensive because of what binders would need to be manufactured. Another manufacturing challenge that comes there is the added time to cast six small heads instead of one, and the tolerances that will be more strict for fitting the other moving parts.
To summarize why have one head, it is because you get better strength; reliability and way lower costs, but I say it would be possible and very cool if done correctly.

@@domesticwingman389 For humans one head is better than multiple :) , but heavy truck engine. I somehow understand the strenght issue but the long term dependability, this is the question. Also, it is easier to manufacture and handle single heads. What about the other truck makers, do they find this a good option? I have to admit, I've been off from this business for decades. I get your point. But I think it has something to do with the flow of coolant. At least that’s from what I have read.
@@SupahEXPE00, Easy to arrange with a coolant collecting mainifold. I think this is a weight issue: One can make the engine a few kilos lighter without losing strenght.
N14 had 3 heads . One per every 2 cylinders.

Emission-free transportation technologies have been available for mass production for over 25 years, but without the needed infrastructure. Their working range can be several thousand miles, cars could weigh 200 kg less, and their price could be 3-4000 Euros less. Segments of nearly the entire car industry secretly have the prototypes and successful tests. At the present moment we are poisoning our environment just out of mere arrogance and greed. We live in a cheap and indecent world. I firmly claim that we simply shouldn`t lie to 7 billion people, and this is only the tip of the iceberg. This information is entirely true and I hold myself accountable for its validity.

Nice sales pitch, but does nothing for techs. Yes Tech Tools is great, but could you provide something with more detail or a service manual link? I agree. I'd rather do a starter or any repair on a Volvo v/s an International. Their engineers did a great job of cutting down service times.
