Van Morrison created his own genre. He sounds like nobody else and nobody else sounds like him . The way he has taken so many different influences and musical styles and molded them into a genre that only he exists in is unparalleled.

Van Morrison is a LEGEND!! My mom was murdered in 2006 when I was 19...Van Morrison was her all time favorite musician.
Since she passed my sister and I have had so many bizarre experiences with Van Morrison songs coming on randomly at the strangest times in the strangest places. We believe that's one of the ways she is communicating from heaven.
I'm fulfilling a lifelong dream of seeing him LIVE next week and I feel so blessed and thrilled!!!

After all the beautiful music, it must be remembered that Morrison grew up a tough Belfast street kid who fortunately found his way into music. As an American I visited Belfast and that place was no joke in the 50s 60s 70s. It was a rough enviornment and must have had aprofoundeffect on the development of Morrison's personality.

Common one is another one of my favorites. All of my favorites happen to be all of his albums that became classics years latter that were not given their due at the time of their initial release . Astral weeks Veedon Fleece A period of Transition and common one are my favorites. It was the performances of the common one material live at Montreux 1980 that turned me onto common one . The live performance of spirit at Montreux 1980 still blows my mind every time I hear it. The instruments work is mind blowing

Dylan had quite a few peaks and troughs threw out the 70s 80s and early 90s but he hit another great peak and had a huge resurgence with time out of mind in 1997 and he has stayed at that level ever since . The last 25 years had been very consistent for Dylan with each album being fantastic . Although van has been releasing albums in a more prolific manner . Dylan releases a new album every 4 years or so while van is still releasing albums every 1 to 2 years.

For me, my favorite van is the 80's through the 90's--his more "spiritual" music. I will always love Van and forgive him for his near-constant complaining on his most recent albums--but I miss the more "tender" side of Van--the instrumentals, meditations, the spoken poetry--songs like, Across the Bridge Where Angels Dwell, and "Sense of Wonder," and "Avalon Sunset"---with the strings, the choirs. Honestly, I worry about him. He seems to have spiraled into more bitterness, anger, and confrontational-songs than ever, and I worry he is somehow suffering inside. Anyway, just saying, I miss his albums like, "Common One," "Beautiful Visions," "Innatriculate Speech of the Heart," "Sense of Wonder," "Avalon Sunset," "Enlightenment," Hymns to the Silence." Anyway, Van to me, will always be, the Man.

I probably have as much Van Morrison music as I have of anyone. It's a shame his last couple of albums have gone a bit off the deep end with conspiracy theories, paranoia and what not. Still, I will always listen to his music. Sadly, I've never seen him live; my brother did, but Van was really drunk apparently and left the stage after a few tunes. I was fortunate a few years ago to be back stage with a couple of members of Average White Band, and Morrison's name came up. They had some stories.
