  • This film brings you first-hand recollections of the band members selected from film and radio archives worldwide alongside classic performance footage. Also features interviews with Clare Torry, the vocalist behind the magnificent vocals on the majestic track The Great Gig In The Sky, and George Hardie, Pink Floyd contemporary and the designer responsible for the classic refracting prism artwork.
The Dark Side of the Moon is the eighth studio album by the English rock band Pink Floyd, released on 1 March 1973 by Harvest Records. The album was primarily developed during live performances, and the band premiered an early version of the suite several months before recording began. The record was conceived as a concept album that would focus on the pressures faced by the band during their arduous lifestyle and partly deal with the apparent mental health problems of former band member Syd Barrett, who departed the group in 1968. New material was recorded in two sessions in 1972 and 1973 at EMI Studios (now Abbey Road Studios) in London.
The record builds on ideas explored in Pink Floyd's earlier recordings and performances while omitting the extended instrumentals that characterized the band's earlier work. The group employed multitrack recording, tape loops, and analog synthesizers, including experimentation with the EMS VCS 3 and a Synthi A. Engineer Alan Parsons was responsible for many of the sonic aspects and the recruitment of singer Clare Torry, who appears on "The Great Gig in the Sky".
The Dark Side of the Moon explores themes such as conflict, greed, time, death and mental illness. Snippets from interviews with the band's road crew are featured alongside philosophical quotations. The sleeve, which depicts a prism spectrum, was designed by Storm Thorgerson in response to keyboardist Richard Wright's request for a "simple and bold" design representing the band's lighting and the album's themes. The album was promoted with two singles: "Money" and "Us and Them".
The Dark Side of the Moon is among the most critically acclaimed records in history and is often featured in professional listings of the greatest albums of all time. The record helped to propel Pink Floyd to international fame, bringing wealth and plaudits to all four band members. A blockbuster release of the album era, it also propelled record sales throughout the music industry during the 1970s. The Dark Side of the Moon has been certified 14× platinum in the United Kingdom and topped the US Billboard Top LPs & Tape chart, where it has charted for 962 weeks in total. With estimated sales of over 45 million copies, it is Pink Floyd's most commercially successful album and one of the best-selling albums worldwide. In 2012, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
    Directors: Tommy Vance, Graham McTavish
Cast: Malcolm Dome, Doogie White, Krusher

TRUE STORY: Christmas, 1979 I was 13yo and the album Meddle was on my “Christmas Wish” list. My brother went to purchase a gift for me, but couldn’t remember which PF album I wanted, Atom Heart Mother or Meddle… he purchased Atom Heart Mother. Christmas morning we are opening our gifts, and with a big smile on his face (believing he picked the right album) he hands me my last gift to open! I unwrapped to find AHM… though I was still very thrilled to receive it, I explained it was Meddle I had on my list. I said, “well, let’s get it on the turntable!” I broke open the cellophane wrap it was still in and pulled out the album and much to my SHOCK!… the label on the album was MEDDLE!!! My brother and I just stared at it and each other for a minute speechless, then ran to the stereo to play and it was Meddle! We called it a “Christmas Miracle!” I, of course, still have the album and a picture of that Christmas morning of my brother and I together right after I had unwrapped it! ❤️🐄🐑🐖🌒💎⚒

I remember listening to a radio documentary about the making of Dark Side Of The Moon, it was about 25 years ago and the band and those involved were talking on it. I can’t remember which band member said this but they were saying that their Wife/partner was complaining about him being constantly away from home making this album. The band member brought her a finished recording of the Album and she listened to it. She just burst in to tears after the album ended.

I would just like to say, as a lifelong musician, music lover and a lifelong Floydian ... Thank you for all the music, Roger, David, Rick, Nick and Syd. Obviously, when you were all united as a force to be reckoned with as Pink Floyd, in all three incarnations of the band, and for all your solo albums, even you Nick 😊
All the Floyd boys for your pioneering live shows, your personalities, your uniqueness and depth of insight into the human condition. Pink Floyd, the best band of the 20th and 21st century! David by far the best guitarist of all time, although naturally he would disagree, for your wonderful voice and your smile. Roger, one of the greatest lyricists of any band, your unique vocal style and musical genius. Rick, for your soul, emotive playing and harmonies with David, especially on my favourite track 'Echoes.' Nick, for your drumming, although minimal at times, and expansive when needed. It's all about the spaces! For your natural sense of humour, as 99.9% of us drummers have, and for playing all those pre DSOTM songs with your amazing band 'A Saucerful of Secrets, ' especially those songs that were penned by Syd, some of which had never been played live before. Absolute genius and such a wonderful treat for all Floyd fans both young and old alike! Saw you play at The Roundhouse on your first tour. Never in a million years, when I first heard 'Planet Earth' and by Duran Duran back in the 80's would I of said that one day Gary Kemp would be playing Syd Barrett songs, as well as such Floyd classics like 'Echoes!' In my humble opinion, Gary does a fantastic job too! Guy Pratt, big shoes to fill, but you've gone above and beyond since 1987. Big respect, plus you're married to Rick's daughter.
Glad to have walked this planet earth 🌏 at the same time as all three incarnations of the band, and having been a part of the Floyd's journey since 1968. RIP Syd the originator and Rick the soul of the band 🙏🏼 The music of Pink Floyd will live on until the end of time.

Pink Floyd is one great Rock band. They all performed perfectly when writing and recording the Dark aSide of the Moon Album. May Rick Wright rest in peace knowing what an achievement he helped make. Plus to the others, Roger yes, you wrote the lyrics but, it did take all of you "Four" members to create this album of great music that has lasted over 50 years now. THAT IS an achievement to say the least! Just think of how many estimated hours people have listened to this Album. How many times a radio station has played each song on the air waves. All that can be said is " too many to count!" One thing is for sure! I will never stop listening to the Dark Side of the Moon Album. It IS that good!

I was 15 years old when I bought this LP and 52 years later, it's still one of my favorite albums. It made me smile to see the FAB 4 graffiti on the wall outside of Abbey Road Studios. It seemed that the vidoe panned Obscured By Clouds which is a great LP in it's own right and from time to time, I'll put that on the turntable just to listen to San Tropez. I think it underscores Rogers creative range and it's an enigmatic song because I feel it's reminiscent to an early period in time in music, but I can never put my finger on whether it's the 30's or 40's of if it's just Pink Floyd being original!
    Great video.

For me it’s always been Gilmour’s masterful flowing guitarwork in the first few opening tracks that set the mood of the album and are the stand-out highlights which stir my soul to the core. Hearing his guitarwork in those first few songs is like climbing into a warm bath at the end of a long hard cold winter’s day. From the very first time I heard the album as a 16 year old one summer night back in 1975, and thru all the decades since, it’s been Gilmour’s guitarwork that does it for me. And of course Roger’s inspired, masterful, thought provoking lyrics that still amaze me at the feelings evoked in me by them. I’m convinced that the very words that were incorporated into the album as its undergirding structure which the music was perfectly suited to, were just waiting in the shimmering ether of Eternity to be birthed and gifted to mankind thru The Dark Side Of The Moon Project by way of Roger’s gift as a worldclass lyricist second to none.
Everything about that album was just waiting for its time to come forth into organized existence. It was all meant to be, and it was David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason who were always the ones meant to bring this gift of masterful magical musical artistry called “The Dark Side Of The Moon” to mankind. And it was always meant to be Clare Torry to bring us the vocal brilliance of the surreal “The Great Gig In The Sky”. And Storm Thorgerson was the one and only human being meant to eternally link the now world renowned signature visual graphic of the prism and light beam to the music of the album. Every part and piece of all that is “The Dark Side Of The Moon” are inseparably connected as one. No part of it can be left out or dismissed without creating some kind of rift in the ether of Eternity. It is all JUST AS IT WAS ALWAYS MEANT TO BE. I cannot imagine my life without the Pink Floyd album “The Dark Side Of The Moon” in it. Such has been the depth of its impact in my life. It is indeed A PART OF ME that has been interwoven into my soul.

It was sung by Rick or Roger,is around 6 minutes long, had a melodic upbeat baroque style pipe organ, psychedelic middle 8 guitar solo, was in a minor key(about 6 chords)and snippets of lyrics that went;"AS WE DANCE","STILL WE DANCE",and I think,"PICTURED IN TIME NOW THAT MOMENTS ARE ALIVE". Annoying that throughout the documentary, subtitle "applause" kept on appearing randomly; nevertheless, this was only a minor irritation.

And Sid wasnt a product of drugs. I HATE hearing that cause the truth is that "mental illnesses" were not explored in depth as they are today.......
SID was a very bright young man with a problem that nobody understood then. But good old marketing people now a days only hear what they want.

The interviewees here overly praise the album. The exceptions are Pink Floyd members and Clare Torry.

Meddle is when they found their sound, my opinion. Was able to see "The Wall" in L.A. was only 19 yrs old, high risk mail order only, send a check in the mail and hope for the best, luckily we got Lodge level directly in-line with Stage. Roger Waters got his wish, he always wanted a Wall between the audience and the Band.
