Thanks in no small part to this (in my HO the best of SO many I've seen) review I finally did it, went out and bought the 1100 Special for a crackin' price after 12 months of deliberation. Fantastic bike. I love it. My wife loves it. We've put 6000 on the clock in 6 months of ownership. (I work 6 days a week). Thanks for getting me over the line after so much "shall I or not..?"
Thank you so much for making a video which is more relevant to the real world perspective buyers who would be riding on the road for every day purposes. This helps clear out a lot of things that I look for in reviews not just numbers and specs of the bike and how fast it can ride on track and the gadgets that help it perform on track. How often will one have the time to go on track and buy something just for that purpose. Please keep on making more such videos. Love from India ❤❤❤

This is Hogan from Super bikes, he definitely knows what he is talking about please keep him on the channel. Though I disagree on 4 years before changing the oil 11:28 . This should be done yearly regardless of mileage
The 1100 is very likable . I have other bikes that are faster, better handling, and more expensive but I don't have any that are more fun. Great review.
Nice review. But the motor is what makes this motorcycle such a blast to ride. Brakes, clutch and suspension are terrific but the motor is the key to its character.
God this bike looks so badass. I’m currently saving up so I can buy one outright, it’s going to take a minute but I’m so stoked for the day I’ll be riding one
Got my 2018 demo with 300 miles for $7999. Had the known issue with the piston slap (on 2018's) fixed under warranty. Have been enjoying the bike ever since. Thanks for the review! I dig the black tank panels Ducati put on there. Not a fan of all the aluminum bits. I'm thinking of anodizing them all on mine. I will be putting on my competition werkes exhaust today and will probably post some vids of before and after.
Went to test ride a Monster 797 here in Thailand last year, liked it. Had an 800 Desert Sled test mule available, rode that, preferred it, even though i'm more of a MonsterMan. Different gearing i think. Sat on the various Scrambler range in the showroom, nice but too small for my 110 kgs and 6'3" frame. Until i spied the 1100's, lovely. Nice colours and much bigger in proportion, really liked them. Must ride one. Not keen on all that plastic shrouding that covers airbox, reg rectifier, oil cooler stuff on the the 796/1100 old Monster range, even worse on the 797 and Scrambler range - hiding a lot of the motor from the R/H side. Surely could be detailed better? Not overly keen on the sticky outy bit on the speedo either, and being a Luddite, not a fan of ride by wire. Having said all that, and being a twin type of guy, i drove 200kms to my nearest Yamaha dealer a month ago to test ride an XSR700 with a cable to the injection bodies, loved that, but the showroom manager said one of his staff wants to sell his farkled out, full system XSR900 triple.... have a go... Possibly the bestest, most insane street motor i have ever ridden. Insane torque and fantastic throttle response. I mean smiles per miles? So, 2 questions John please, what happened to your project XSR900? and what bike do you prefer, Yam triple or Ducati 1100 twin? Both bikes have the same peak torque figures too. MotardFeio SC you have beautiful roads mate. I’ve ridden them in the dry as well and they’re incredible. They were very sloppy the day we filmed out there.
I know exactly what you mean about having to stick your leg out in the wet. The mountain climb out of Grenoble, France is deadly in the wet. It was as though someone had laid and lacquered marbles. Great review and I can't wait for the next Desmo build vid.
I have the yellow one and love it. Only done a thousand miles in a year mind. I have fitted an oil cooler and engine guard - my only gripe is that the short mudguard on the front allows the front wheel to throw up stones that chip the black paint on the front cylinder. Problem solved now though.
I just got one about 2 weeks ago and is exactly what I wanted from a bike It can do so many things ! Is like 3 bikes in one seriously Fun to ride ! Love the sound of the exhaust being the stock one , gear box and clutch are so smooth and can be aggressive if you want to ! Is very comfortable even with someone in the back , the more you get to know the bike the more you get from it , I’m happy I got this exact model , I was going for the hypermotard or multistratada but after look at them close and thinking 🤔 I’m 40 and I need a serious bike , this was the right fit ! Great review. True words. A bike is never just a sum of it's numbers on paper. The 1100 feels much more substantial and the motor feels way more lively than and of the 800s. It is to the point you'd think the bikes aren't related. It also sounds and revs much nicer, sportier than the R nine T. That is preferential however. I regret getting the Cafe and not the 1100. Likely sell mine privately and pick up a 1100.
Great review mate. I only just discovered this model. I have been thinking about what type motorcycle I would get next. Honestly I had been thinking about a standard bike like a Royal Enfield Continental GT. But I've grown kind of fond of the scrambler look and I'm not serious about an adventure bike. The scrambler looks like a great Urban brawler. The ability to take a dirt trail now and then would be fun. I'm surprised I see the great bargains are leftover 2019 or even 2018 models brand new. Under 10K USD. I think the Ducati will do it all for me and will be my next motorcycle 🤠
Like listening to a review from a mate, no bu11shit full of fluff. Everything you want and need to know, no pretentious bollox that you don't. Nice one my man!
Great review, I love my 800 full throttle as it has enough power even in A2 restricted form. Only downside in summer is the raging heat that comes off the bike. In UK I imagine that is welcome but not commuting in south of France 🤣🔥🔥
When I reviewed the Special a year + ago I had very similar conclusions. The engine is wonderful and punches well above its weight and the bike handles like a peach in traffic. The 1100 is a superb urban tool that sounds and looks great. Definitely worth looking for a 2nd hand low mileage example. Here in the US there are leftovers around too.
I found 2 with with basically no miles on them. They are 2018's. $8,500-9,000USD. I am going to look at the Yamaha XST700 on Tuesday. The Yamaha has to absolutely slap in order to talk me out of the Scrambler 1100.
@@atastefortheroad4475 Thanks a lot man. I watched your review and I gotta say, great job. Hope you're still riding and enjoying that beautiful VA country side. I have to ask, did you try the 1100 sport at all? Or do you have any experience with the Yamaha's? I found a 2018 1100 Sport for $9,500 with only 75 miles on it. It's a dealer demo bike. Just wondering if you think the Ohlins shocks are worth the extra $500-1000 it will tack on to the price of the base models I found for sale.
@@burroaks772 I haven't ridden the 1100 Sport. I do think the Ohlins are worth the extra and the bike will always be worth more. The Sport (due to its price) has never sold well and will be always be more rare. I haven't had experience w/Yamaha and it's a fine brand. Going this route would be satisfying. But being partial to Ducati, I think you'd really enjoy the 1100 Sport. $9500 is quite good w/only 75 miles. Typically, Ducati requires more miles on a demo bike for a dealer to qualify for the "demo" discount. Ducati must be waiving this. You might see if the dealer will waive the setup and delivery costs because of its demo status. Or see if they can throw something else into the deal. Whatever you choose, Yamaha or Ducati, you'll be getting a nice machine!
@@atastefortheroad4475 First off, I'd really like to thank you for taking the time to reply to me. Your experience and insight has been extremely valuable. I think with the current situation of how the world economy has been looking, Ducati is probably just trying to push as many of the older year bikes they can off the showroom floor. I'm assuming that's why I'm able to get such good pricing right now. I know the dealerships are wheeling and dealing hard right now too. Luckily I have the advantage of being able to pay cash and not finance the bike. I'm not going to put them through the ringer, because I know they have to make money too. However I think they are looking for an influx of liquid capital over inventory and long term payments. They sweetened the pot by throwing in the first scheduled maintenance @ 621 miles in for free about a $300 value. From what I've read and talked to the dealers about, looks like the 7,500 mile service runs around $600 and the 15,000 is about $1100. So I'm factoring that into my purchase as well. Looking forward to checking out the Yamaha Tuesday. I'll let you know what I decide if you are interested. Otherwise have a great day. Thanks again 👍
@@BikeWorldTVshow thanks mate... it did cross my mind,, maybe the lighting just made it a bit more of a badass. so thought it was a different model from shark
I’ve got one of these. Only gripe is that while it’s easy to switch riding modes it’s cumbersome to switch traction control levels (I.e 4 is for rain). Best to set city mode with DCT4 so if you want to power down in the rain it’s ez.
Now, this is my opinion. friday, saturday, and sunday we had a test days at an official Ducati dealer. And I must say I own Ducati's since the 80ties. Often among other brands. But Long time ago I fell in love with them.... I tested the scrambler 1100, and the new Monster. each about 3 hours. mostly on little country roads. Some gravel , and cobble roads. The scrambler is indeed what the review here said. Feels light, confortable, easy handling. decent braking. Enough power for the little roads... almost enough. But its not a Ducati. It doesnt make heads turn. Its doesnt have the Ducati feeling. Nor the aggression,... It doesnt have the grunt... Its a motorcycle. I think it is good for traffic between home, work. The Monster is even worse. A girl who was with me and also a long time Ducati fan. Drives a monster 1200s. She tested the new monster too.... She said, " it drives, it brings you from point A to point B. But thats it". Not the Ducati radiation. I'm afraid Audi isnt a good thing for Ducati.I know competition is hard between constructors. But I think its the end of an era. Soon we will be driving a hairdryer anyway.
I'd say it's a Ducati for those who don't want to turn heads, but get all the great feelings :) And I've also already ridden a "hairdryer" (Energica SS9+) - I'm not afraid anymore :D
I’ve got one of these amongst other bikes. This is my favourite of all my bikes including my MT10. The bike pulls hard, more than the power figures say. In a drag race the scrambler will dispose of an R nine T easily. In addition the brake hose is supposed to look like that. It’s a feature to make it look like an old cable brake. I wouldn’t bother with the spoke wheels for the extra weight and tubes.
Sticking up for the 800, at age 54 and 5’8 tall, the 800’s smaller size and weight is more manageable, everything you’ve said about the 1100 applies to the 800, they are both great bikes
Awesome 👍 review thanks! I currently own an 800 and looking to upgrade in the near future. How would you compare the 1100 to the z900 RS Cafe? Which one would you prefer to tackle a weekend day trip.
Thanks David, I think it all depends on what you're comfortable riding. When we were out filming with John he rode the Cafe more like a sportsbike, have you seen our RS vid: th-cam.com/video/Z5gnC-i87-4/w-d-xo.html
Tian Tsering I think the longer trips (300+ miles) suited the Monster more. There was more speed available on faster A roads as well, for those two reasons I’d probably choose the Monster.
Yes, 4K is glorious. Shame you only uploaded in 1080k though! 😀 Nice real-world review, talking feelings and generalisations, rather than number crunching obsessing. Good job!
Very honest… myself after 23 T ks in 18 month… on long tours, tons of curves… loved it… save, trust…had even lots of fun on the racetrack🤪…the only thing, I have to learn to hold her… cause Im just 165 cm and a woman.. two weeks ago I switched to the Hyper… a little beast😆
I've a 2010 Monster 796 and i like the retro style of this Scrambler and also the desert sled version. I am 1,86 m (6'1ft ?), and now my 796 feels a small bike (it was my fisrt bike, so in the first years i didn't felt that). Do you feel that the 1100 scrambler is a small bike for a guy with my high? Keep up with the good and down to earth, daily use, reviews. ;)
In India it costs 19-20K $ !!! Thanks to the Import duties :( It's one of the best looking bikes apart from R9T (29K $) and Z900rs(24K $). And the Desmo services costs 400$! We can only do window shopping here unless have black money :(

Thanks again 👍
honest review, respect . but real question here.. the helmet on 0.29 second,, what model is it ?? asking for a friend
That's a Shark Drak helmet.
@@BikeWorldTVshow thanks mate... it did cross my mind,, maybe the lighting just made it a bit more of a badass. so thought it was a different model from shark
My dream bike. Handles wayyy better than a BMW Nine T. And the low power band is perfect for city hooligan riding.
Great review. That grey colour was used by Italian police on their Alfa Cop cars.
I’ve got one of these. Only gripe is that while it’s easy to switch riding modes it’s cumbersome to switch traction control levels (I.e 4 is for rain). Best to set city mode with DCT4 so if you want to power down in the rain it’s ez.
It sounds gorgeous
I like the bike, but couldn't they have done something with that front brake fluid tube?
They have made it shorter now but honestly I never notice it because I'm too worried about watching the road in front! 😀
John, aren't the valve service intervals still 7.5K on these? I thought they were. That's even worse than Triumphs!
I hAve the sport version and I LOVE 💘 like crazy
Lovely bike, I think I would have the triumph speed twin over this.
This real world review just sold the bike for me. Ducati UK should let you have one for another year just because I’m on my way to the dealership!
Okay... that was a good one. Maybe one of your best ones. Touché
Just a coincidence, I was listening to Gerry and the Pacemakers before this.. and there they are in the background!
Massive fan of his reviews
Great review. What you'll think the deferences will be compare to the scrambler 1200 xc , in every day use.
Thanks
I would say this would be more usable everyday, the XC is a bit tall.
3:04 とても良い加速で最高!👍
Sticking up for the 800, at age 54 and 5’8 tall, the 800’s smaller size and weight is more manageable, everything you’ve said about the 1100 applies to the 800, they are both great bikes
Nice review as always.
I wonder if they are considering a Desert Sled 1100. That would be sick but than again maybe too big/expensive for off roading.
Sick [adj]: ill; Sick [verb]: to chunder.
Ducati already got you covered fam.

Great video! Thank you!
Great review and brilliant bike! Cheers.
Is it a full system or just the end cans??
Jesus mate, smile once in a while!
Save your cash - buy the 803 Icon - and spend the extra on mods. Great bikes!
When we were out filming with John he rode the Cafe more like a sportsbike, have you seen our RS vid: th-cam.com/video/Z5gnC-i87-4/w-d-xo.html
how does it compare to the monster 1200s you reviewed last year?
Tian Tsering I think the longer trips (300+ miles) suited the Monster more. There was more speed available on faster A roads as well, for those two reasons I’d probably choose the Monster.
Yes, 4K is glorious. Shame you only uploaded in 1080k though! 😀 Nice real-world review, talking feelings and generalisations, rather than number crunching obsessing. Good job!
beautiful bike
Hello, is it nearly as agile as the 800? Cheers
What helmet is that?
You got that shark raw! Nice. That’s my helmet! 👍
" No replacement for displacement " was first said by the founder of Bentley. It is not an American tag line sir. 1:42
@Ben Daulton SURE , what ever floats ur boat
I've a 2010 Monster 796 and i like the retro style of this Scrambler and also the desert sled version. I am 1,86 m (6'1ft ?), and now my 796 feels a small bike (it was my fisrt bike, so in the first years i didn't felt that). Do you feel that the 1100 scrambler is a small bike for a guy with my high? Keep up with the good and down to earth, daily use, reviews. ;)
Thanks, John's about the same height as you and he found it really comfortable, the Sled is very cool though.
Great style of review 👍
Thanks
Can you let me know which Shark helmet that is that you're sporting?
Nice review ,, ive got the desert sled , so maybe up the anti and go for the 1100. Nice helmet ,,what is it ??
In India it costs 19-20K $ !!! Thanks to the Import duties :( It's one of the best looking bikes apart from R9T (29K $) and Z900rs(24K $). And the Desmo services costs 400$! We can only do window shopping here unless have black money :(
I like this bike... sounds good, looks good. Still trust a Triumph more than an Italian though... My money would go to the British twin
