Colour notes for fabric dyeing.
Low emersion technique - wet, white Zweigart fabric scrunched in an ice-cream tub.
All dyes are made up in warm salt water and then filtered through a paper towel to remove undissolved dye before using
Winter - I made a base dye with Pearly Grey and a few drops of Denim Blue. I then spooned over some Denim Blue in places. Mine is a bit bluer than true Mirage
Spring - I made a base dye with tan. I then spooned over a green mixture made with Kelly Green, a few drops of Yellow and a few drops of Pearl Grey
Summer - I made a base dye using Pearly Grey and a few drops of Aquamarine and a few drops of Kelly Green
Autumn - I made a base dye of Tan. I then spooned over dye made with Caramel and dye made with a very weak solution of Cocoa Brown (it seems to be a much stronger dye than others and shows a lot of red)

Love your fabrics. I will have to give that a try with that method. So far I only ever died with one color and then used a coffee/ tea dunk.
I am planning to do the In the Woods piece but I am still waiting for my first pattern to arrive. It does take a while living in Australia. I am planning to do it on Fox and Rabbit’s Hogsbristle which I am waiting to order. And I will rearrange the order to suit our seasons. This will need to be more creative.
I started watching your videos yesterday. Saw your parade of kitted projects. I'm so impress with the fabrics you dyed together in this video. Hope you can make a video on how you dye each colour with the mixture dyes. It's really interesting how to get the effects you achieved.

Love the fabrics that you dyed. They are pretty. I wish you had done a video of how you did them. I am a very visual person and would like to learn how to dye fabric. I have been looking for the country vintage mocha for a while but I thought you were saying "Mocker"! lol! I finally realized what you were saying when I read a comment from some one below!

You have really nailed it with the fabric dyeing, fantastic. I'm new to your podcast and loved your video thank you. I will need to find out about the SAL of the woods project. Because I live in NZ I don't have easy access to patterns so may have to follow your progress and perhaps try and get the pattern from somewhere. Doubtful that I could get the different coloured fabrics either. but will try and see what can be done.

You had a chart called "Christmas visit" or "Santa visit", beautiful chart with tons of floss needed. I got the chart from one of the shop you list since I couldn't find it on this side of the pond. I got all the floss together and decided it is going be a long haul to do it. Did you decide the same thing since I haven't seen it on any of your FlossMas segment? Yesterday's lipstick look great on you.

Your fabrics turned out so well. I keep having trouble with my Rit dye as certain colors keep leaving bright magenta spots which ruins my fabric depending on how many there are and where. They don't come out. It seems my taupe, grays, black and purple seem to do it. I have better luck with my blues and aqua. I don't see other people having this problem. Do you think my dye is bad? It seems to show up after it is dyed and drying. I dont see it as I am putting it on the fabric. I heat my water, use salt, dissolve it well and shake the bottles vigorously.
No - my dye has the same. All you need to do is to mix your dye with water as normal and then filter the dye through a paper towel into another container and then use it from there. It’s just undissolved dye 😄

I already said wow on Instagram but I will say quadruple wow here! What a beautiful job you did with the fabric dyes. I have only ever dared tea/coffee dye. They are going to look great. Are you going to sew them together or finish each season off individually?

I have been loving all of your FlossMass videos especially, all of the past stitches that you share with us! I was wondering if you could share the name of the pattern of one of your samplers that is in the background. It is the black crow standing under a red flower that is right behind or under #18 envelope! That reminds me of either Blackbird designs or La D Da. If you could share the pattern name and maybe even show us your finished sampler, I would really appreciate it! Your stitching is really awesome and I really like that you don't stick to only one kind of style.

Where do you get your base fabric for dyeing? I keep finding linen that is not evenly woven, usually 25 stiches x 42 stitches.
I buy plain white Zweigart 😄
