Or Sex Pistols (along with many like Motorhead(Lemme was friends with ISD btw)) they can wear swastikas because they're just "being annoying." Right. The hypocrisy is deep. Punk is an attitude not whether or not you have major label contract.
Do it yourself, make it yourself, tour on your own skin, write about what is "real" to you, over cliches or what will "sell".

Used to be a big punk/NOFX fan, still am to a degree but Mike is such a hypocrite....i remember buying heavy petting Zoo and in the notes he banged on about mtv etc to quit bugging them and that they dont do mainstream yet years later they had their own TV show, music videos on MTV and a book....not to mention that in that book he says how he was a poser and would wear punk band t shirts despite never hearing the bands....he also said in the book after hearing suffer by bad religion he wanted NOFX to imitate their sound....how punk....
Liberal animation is a good punk album but most that follwed wasn't....they certainly changed their sound to be radio friendly after Ribbed...

    • @childrenoftheabzu
      @childrenoftheabzu ปีที่แล้ว

I dont see it that way. At the time he diddnt want to be on MTV and radio and was happy with their level of success without it. Decades later he wanted to do a show for whatever reason. Point is, different time, different person and different circumstances. Things in punk are not what they were in 94. As for the other stuff, I really have nothing to say. It is clear that he is a true fan of music. That is beyond question. I sure dont miss the days of being quized about what bands shirt you were wearing. "oh you like what ever band. Name every 4th song on every album in alphabetical order. Oh you cant. Poser". But I dont like mainsteam pop culture exploiting and commodification of sub cultures. Has happened to everything I have been heavily into at one time or another. I also dont like fashion punks. Sorry ranting now

Elite PUNKERS! (Me in Highskool) would be "They're not punk!!! How could they be in there! Cause they bought and used hairspray for their spikes also!?"
Now... sensible me is "HELLSCHYEAS they go in there!! People were coming up to MOHAWK me with PUNK dripping and spewing from all points and asked me about punk and bands... I started talking all the bands and stuff and they're "yea we like Good Charlotte" I didnt have cable so I had no clue whom they were.
Saw Benji and was "they must like Casualties and Exploited"
When I finally heard them I was UUGGGGGHHHHH THEY CAME UP TO ME ABOUT PUNK!?!?
And now the sensible person is
YES THEY DID!!! AND YOU KNO WHAT!!???
if it wasnt for the Madden Bros!!!
They would've never said "you like punk?" And been curious or cared!
    GC does belong in there.
They hit a peak that few do!!🤘🎸🤘🎸🤘🍻🍻

I wouldn't frame it so much as "You can't cancel bands for what their views were when it was somewhat acceptable" so much as "If they aren't truly hateful and grew past it" kind of deal. Remember, in their early years a lot of these bands were 14, 15. 16 year old dudes and gals. Idk about you all, but I said and did some pretty shitty things at that age that I've regretted for a very long time.

There was a time when Skrewdriver played at the 100 club and were very punk rock '1977. before, they became Ultra right wing fascist. still they influenced early punk bands that are not racial. although thier Nazi following influenced Nazi Oi/ RAC bands in the hundreds.

You can't call yourself a historian without including the unsavory parts. That is a total contortion on his part. A complete contradiction. Screwdriver and the skinhead movement were seminal to the development of punk as a whole. This is why I completely disagree with the meme that punks are anti-normative rebels with a heart of gold, bullshit. They weren't, they were complete degenerates that rejected society at its core. Which often came with extreme shades from left and right. It was counter culture in its purest form. By eliminating the hateful and bigoted corners. You're misrepresenting the movement entirely.

Good Charlotte is poser, but in early 90's Greenday is punk back then, they started their debut from indies & underground punk gigs scene, it different now, both band even NOFX no longer punk anymore, since they sold their "ideologi" for major label, mainstream and democrat party, they just spreading democrat campaign under the guise of punk band. punk museum is bullshit with bunch of politics agenda on it.

Good Charlotte was such an awful band that their record company spent 1000's buying them plays on the radio to make them appear popular.
