Richard Ayoade has the humility to imagine that he lacks social presence, which ironically gives him more social presence than most people in the entertainment industry.
The way he can effortlessly and savagely roast even big-name actors in the rare moments where he's on the same set as them is great proof of that. I loved him on the Graham Norton show
@@anonb4632 exactly, all his books are about him! He is super self centred and smirks the whole time. I guess he was born entitled...Ayoade on Ayoade says it all. No insights gained from this woke icon.

+kitty buckley I gave up on Doctor who after the master Tom Baker left. It was all downhill from there. It's now some sort of Carry On Doctor Who dreadfully camp thing that I can't bare to watch. I can see there's real talent in there, the writing is top notch but its not Doctor Who. It's like a caricature of it. People do seem to love it in great numbers so I'm like, fine, go enjoy this thing. Richard Ayoade probably wouldn't be able to bare living within what Doctor Who is now. Unless he was himself a character like Moss but that wouldn't really work. He'd have to be a fairly dynamic character to fill the role. So really the only way I could see him playing the Doctor is for it to be completely re-written and I'd give him the reigns to do the writing. He's a brilliant writer, director and actor so I've no doubt he could pull something completely new off. But probably not what the new audience want. They want silly camp sci-fi with complex plots, lots of weird characters and a healthy dose of sexual tension. Still it would be fun reading the comments of outrage as Richard turns Doctor who into some kind of hard science fiction realism study like a cross between 2001 with Hal9000 and the IT Crowd like cast running the Tardis. hehe
Richard Ayoade possesses that rare kind of social awkwardness that actually increases his charm. Not everyone needs to be like Chris Pratt or Leonardo DiCaprio to be charismatic in their own quiet, self effacing way.

What he says in the beginning is the reason I avoid Meet and Greets of any kind like the plague. I find the one-sidedness really awkward and the power imbalance very unappealing. That's not anyone's fault, it's just the nature of a meeting where one side is mostly trying to protect their image and has no reason to be interested in it at all.
Some celebrities are happy enough to meet fans because it stops them being on a pedestal by others as they are able to interact with 'normal', 'ordinary', 'non-famous' people.

2:03 - 2:25 is just so perfect. Older people think young people have it easy just because we have lots of little "apps" and "gadgets". If you ask any 20 - 30 year old in the UK what they want most in life, the answers will usually be: a job, a house and a family/stability. These days kids almost always *must* go to uni to get a "good" job, which means at the very least they will start working 3 years later than their parents did - that's a huge amount of income they're missing out on. Additionally, kids go to uni (and get into debt) to get into jobs which aren't really that much better paid than their parents'. The two above points, combined with the massive increase in UK house prices between 1990-present means that kids have been priced out of buying homes (ironically by their own parents). So you have this horrific set up where the rental market is maxed out, giving landlords (boomers) huge amounts of bargaining power, which allows them to set rent prices really high - further slowing down kids being able to buy their own homes. This all has a knock on effect where we are now seeing 'young adults' in their late 20s, with very little savings, working silly hours, and still renting. With all this instability, it's no wonder millenials are finding it harder to allocate time to finding partners and establishing families. And worst of all, their parents are asking them: "why haven't you bought a house yet? Why haven't you got married yet? Are we ever going to get grandchildren?"... to which I advise any young adult to respond with: "I'll do all those things when the generation before me stop stepping on my throat".
