Great synchronicity - in the book I wrote for my students on dealing with inner (and outer) critics, I told a story about a teacher telling a child, "Trees aren't purple!" But they can be absolutely any color you really want them to be - I'm so glad you overcame the "Trees aren't blue!" critique you got hit with. And Green Gold and Quinacridone Magenta are such an amazing combination... I took a little side-journey with them way back, and though I returned to my favorite palette, one of those paintings stays on my bedroom wall and makes me very happy. Perhaps I should consider revisiting them (especially that Green Gold!).... 🙂Great colors, fun videos - thank you for sharing!
I LOVE your attitude to your art ❤ this video was great with the colour talk and play. I'm going to play it again now while i paint. That purple and teal combo was delicious (in a non eating way!).
My friend Ellie, another TH-camr called the Lazy Redhead, also does unusual colored trees …especially pink and red. I find the free-spirited use of color to be inspiring! ❤
Thank you for listing all the colors - they are amazing. What I don't see is whether you are using watercolor or acrylics - can you confirm this for me?
In the starting point green gold area, if I sit back and squint I can see the perfect flower heads on long stems (drips). The shapes in similar size that you pointed out are the flowers I was referring to.
Excellent start to an abstract showing how to blend! the pop of red and the drip of the reddish magenta are my to favorites parts. I would love to see the progression on this. The mop brush is something I just started using. I bought some cheap makeup brushes to use for now. As always thank you for sharing!💖💖💖💖
First thing I watched this morning and am sooooo happy! I MUST try some of these blends. My faves are extremely close to yours and am inspired! It’s going to be a great day! Thanks Julia ❤😊
I love this. I am not a canvas artist, but I was a scenic artist at Walt Disney World. I am familiar with most of the colors you refer to. We used paint by the 100s of gallons- Modern Masters Theme Paint, Nova Colors, My favorite go-to colors: Nova Color Trans Yellow Oxide, Nova Color Trans Red Oxide, MM Moss Yellow, Raw Umber, Burnt Umber, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Paynes Gray. I was a lead painter on Disney's Avatar and I used a couple of particular combinations. Ox blood: Trans Red Oxide + Paynes Gray+ Trans Black Oxide. Mossy Green/Yellow: Moss yellow + raw umber. Lovely forest greens from: Phthalo green and blue + raw umber and burnt umber. I have done a lot of woodgraining using these colors too. I wish to covert to doing canvas paintings. Do you use any Trans colors? Any phthalos? or Wild Fire? Continuing to follow....
So weird to see the white background, but it does work better since you are using watered down paints in your abstracts😊Love the teal/turquoise so much I painted my front doors that colour 💙
Great advice re blending colours together to create harmony. I love Golden paints but having a hard time finding them here in Ontario (supply in Michaels is limited) - any suggestions?
I am so confused, I realise these are acrylics but in any watercolor paint I have ever used turquoise is paler than teal and your paints are the opposite? All the other colors seem to be the same, I'm watching this because I love your paintings because of the colors 😅
@@juliaveenstraartist if you google turquoise and teal the turquoise is paler and teal is darker. Apparently they are both cyan but teal has more green and turquoise more blue but another source says the opposite. So maybe it's just their paint?
Thank You! Wonderful tutorial ❤❤

So gorgeous these color mixes!! 😍
What hue was the bright red you put on the middle? Is it standard cadmium red medium or another red??

That was fun! I am wondering about that mop brush. Does it shed hairs? I have not found a mop brush that doesn’t shed!
I found a make up brush doesn’t shed. I had the same problem with my mop brushes
I haven’t used it long enough yet to be honest!
