Showing up and doing the work. So true. Inspiration does happen though! I recently learned something to try. Spend 5 minutes and walk away for a good while. Repeat. It’s freed me a lot. It doesn’t have to be finished like ever number one, number two I get a pain in my shoulder blades due to carpal tunnel if I spend more than an hour and 3/4’s. I tried new positions new chair standing etc….learned it was connected to carpal tunnel. So I surgery on one hand done. My left thank god! It will be a year before I know if this was a failure making things worse or not. Anyway. Aside from paint drying on brushes I lied the idea so I did it for black polychromos drawing. Drawing is bit more intensive ….more work to get darker darks etc….anyway, I love it! I’m sure for paint there is some solution to the drying threats
Hello- if you're in or near Portland - we host an exhibit discussion with each of our exhibiting artists. The next such event will be with Yoshihiro Kitai on Saturday, December 14th at 1pm. Great explication of the perils of the process. My phone is full of lost paintings that ought to have been turned to the wall for a while but I am working on reducing the backlog of pieces with something wonderful about them but set aside because I was afraid to accept the challenge to continue. Wonderful video presentation.
Such good points. There’s just not enough time in our lives to agonize over the creative process. I have to just move away from it and come back to it later.
Everything you said Laurie mirrors my issues with painting and it's great to know. Btw your non painter friends must think you're slightly eccentric sometimes which is also great, Mike from the Czechlands.

I really appreciate Laurie's honest discussion of her work. Much respect. She seems like a genuine and serious painter.
I TRULY miss having discussions like this with other artists. Would love to be part of her inner circle. Linden

agonizing over process is painful. producing a piece that speaks . . . to anyone . . . is wonderful.
Enjoyed this so much! Thanks for sharing so much about your process.
I understand about that documentation of your work as it progresses….I go back and look and think….why didn’t I see this? Great video. Great art.
Thank You for You🎉❤. Cape Town

I just saw this show. Go see it! It’s up through Nov 30. 714 NW Davis
It works good to check the stages of your painting in black and white . It works for me
Thanks. I related to so many things you said.

I like this woman painter! Direct, abstract thinker, whimsical, concrete and logical. A bit child-like with the teacher at her side.

the process or the product?
Wish I could SEE HER PAINTINGS. typical utube, talk talk, painting is a visual process....NOT an audio experience. too bad
