    I just lost my mother...and the sound of your dad chopping his vegetables on the cutting board, brings back a NOSTALGIC past time of when I was younger. I never liked being in the kitchen when I was younger..but i was the first one there when pot done. Lol...Blessings to you❤

    Wow...this may seem small, but my dad was Jamaican and passed 13 yrs ago and seeing your dad sharpen the knife in the beginning made me tear up. It unlocked a memory of him doing that when he was in the kitchen. I love cooking because of him. Thank you for sharing your Deddy with us 💛🖤💚

    Ok, as a Jamaican I will say that you forgot an important step...letting the dough rest for at least 20 -30 mins (I now do it overnight). As a child, my mom would make the dough first thing and then go tie out the goats and come back and fry them. I never connected this crucial fact to the taste and I always wondered why my dumplings never tasted as good as hers.

      I SO agree with you!! I found on another video a while back... that people put the dough in the fridge after kneeding it. I started that day... and NEVER stopped.
      It DEFINITELY changed the game (final product)!!! 😋😋

      Try having it with sautéed spinach. The recipes that you see for callaloo and salt fish/codfish can be made with spinach and without codfish. It’s super delicious and freezes well when done.

    When making anything with dough it's imperative to let the dough rest for a couple of hours after working it before baking or frying. Good tip.

    • @brandonmcloud5017
      @brandonmcloud5017 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This doesn’t need to rest for hours but definitely 5-10 minutes would have made this smoother and more manageable

      Same here. Milk adds lift making them softer and fluffier. I usually don’t knead as much either that way the gluten isn’t handled so much to toughen up.

    You can’t use olive oil (or sesame seed oil) for frying bcuz it has a low smoke point and will burn. Have to use oils with a high smoke point for frying.

    Those are the most perfect looking fried dumplings I’ve ever seen. I’ve missed a beat as I’d never thought to keep flipping them on low heat to brown evenly all over.

I ran out of milk but I had ensure and I added half ensure and half water mixed it together and used it instead of milk and let the dough sit for 30 minutes before frying it. Try it and see and let me know because I will never make it any other wayyy best ever..

    When I make fried dumplings, I put soft or melted butter in a big bowl with a lid as my cooked dumplings come out I put in the bowl, shake them well on the melted butter..remove place on plate..it's so taste.
