Hello Melissa, thank you for your videos. I realised I've been using the La Roche Posay Effaclar DUO and the Effaclar Ultra Concentrate Serum all wrong in my first 2 weeks, no wonder I've been experiencing breakouts, irritation and redness in my face. Btw, I have old acne scars in my cheeks area, new acne that pop out now, especially in my cheeks area, and blackheads. My routine was like this. In the morning, I wash my face with the La Roche Posay Effaclar foaming gel, use La Roche Posay Effaclar DUO and then the Anthekios UVMUNE 400 invisible fluid SPF50+ sunblock. In the same day, in the evening, I wash my face with the La Roche Posay Effaclar foaming gel and then use the Effaclar Ultra Concentrate Serum. Now, I know I should not do that, I am enlightened, thank you. I would like to start using a moisturizer afterwards, as my skin feels like it needs it. Can you recommend me other moisturizers for oily skin if it is possible? As the moisturizer brands you have mentioned, do not come in my country. Or maybe I can use a moisturizer from the La Roche Posay brand. Honestly, I don't know if it's too much to use for my skin. Thank you :)
Hello Christine, It's likely just too much for the skin to handle, so I would really suggest reducing the frequency of the Effaclar Ultra Concentrate Serum. It's quite potent, especially when used alongside the Effaclar Duo+. Try reducing the frequency and see what works for you. For moisturizers, you could use CeraVe Ultra Light Moisturizing Gel, or the new The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Beta Glucan. Another option is the Beauty of Joseon Red Bean Water Gel. Unfortunately, in my opinion, La Roche-Posay does not offer great formulations for oily skin types.
@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Thank you for the quick reply. I will try the moisturisers you suggested, and I started from today what you said in your video. Thank you 😊
Hello, Melissa! Once again, AMAZING VIDEO. I'd like to know if I can use a serum on top of the Effaclar Duo +, 'cuz I'm using Eucerin Anti-Pigment and I'd like to know if I can top it over the Effaclar Duo.
You can technically combine them, but I believe it might be too intense for your skin. Therefore, I recommend using them at alternate times. Also, if you decide to use them together, remember to apply the serum before Effaclar Duo+. ;) And thank you 😃.
Hello, I kept using these two products at the same time in my night routine. I wash my face with La roche possay cleanser, apply this serum, then immediately apply Effaclar Duo +. Is this too much? Note that, I have been using this method for so long now. Please answer me.
Well, if it works well for you, then there is no need to change it. You will notice changes if your skin becomes sensitive, develops unusual breakouts, or experiences redness, etc. If that is not the case, then you do not need to change anything. Generally, I offer guides that should ideally benefit everyone viewing the videos. These recommendations are based on both my personal experience with how the products have performed on my skin and the specific ingredients they contain.
And also is it normal to have tiny bumps like sebum bumps/clogged or open pores all over your face (more on forehead and cheeks) while using tretinoin? I use them for a year and a half now, I don't think it's because weather change because the weather is pretty much the same everyday. I feel like my skin texture is going a little bit downhill this past few weeks, do you have any suggestions i can do? Thanks so much 🥰🥰
Well, that is odd, as many people are currently struggling with this issue. So, I really think that it has something to do with the weather, or it might be a global shift, which is common with the weather fluctuations that we have nowadays. However, you could take a break or try to hydrate your skin well during the day while not using tretinoin. I often do that with Adapalene, and I currently have a break because I experienced a lot of flakiness/irritation. Surprisingly, my skin now looks much better. 🤷♀️
Hello, can i use in the order of these 3steps, step 1,La roche posay serum, and 2, effaclar duo+ and the last step, moisturizer? I always use like it and im not sure if tht is a right way or not.
Hii, thank you for the video. I have a question about the frequency that i should use. My dermatologist recommended me in addition to these products, a gel with benzoyl peroxide. I have very oily skin with a lot of acne around my cheeks. How should I introduce it into my routine? Like, I'm currently using CeraVe Blemish Control Cleanser, Effaclar Duo(+) and La Roche Posay Oil Control Sunscreen in the morning. At night I use Effaclar Cleanser, Effaclar Serum and Effaclar Mat Moisturizer. I noticed a lot of improvement in oiliness, blackheads and pimples, but the skin turns very red and i notice some acne spots. I also tried the CeraVe PM/Ultralight Moisturizer but I found out i have allergy. Should i remove some product in my routine? Change for CeraVe Blemish Control Gel instead Effaclar Duo? Remove CeraVe Cleanser? Reduce the frequency of Effaclar Serum? Thank you.
Well, overall, I think it's too intense, especially if your skin turns red, which indicates some kind of irritation or sensitivity. Does it burn or sting afterwards? And when exactly does this happen? Apart from that, if you have been to a dermatologist, it would probably be best to ask them for advice on how to incorporate this treatment, or what they think about it. I mean, I can help you with general advice, but a dermatologist can analyze your skin and, knowing your history, provide more tailored guidance, making it much easier for them to assess and advise.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet It burned a lot in the first few days, now it just turns red. And I noticed that my skin is now textured, bumpy. I talked to her a few minutes ago, she said to intersperse the benzoyl peroxide with the serum, like, every other day. Do you think it’s too much?
@@almeidaueel Just to clarify, have you already used the benzoyl peroxide gel? If so, did your skin turn red and burn after using the gel, after the exfoliant, or was it after using both?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Yes, I used the benzoyl peroxide gel in the evening routine, but not with the effaclar serum and it doesn’t burns. But when I use with the effaclar serum my skin turns red.
@@almeidaueel Well, in that case, I would simply choose to either stop using the Effaclar serum altogether or reduce its frequency to a couple of times per week. Then, I would observe how that goes.
Hi Melissa, thank you for this nice video. My skin type is from normal to oily. It needs moisture and is prone to staining. I have blackhead, acne and acne scar problem. I want to ask if I can use effaclar serum one night and C10 serum the other night. And in this routine, I planned to use B5 serum in the morning. Or, is it ok to use effaclar serum one night and niacinamide serum the other night? In this routine, I thought of using effaclar duo cream / C10 serum in the morning.
Hey! :) What skincare product do you currently use? Do you get a lot of acne? Do you have physical acne scars or dark spots from previous acne? Yes, this can work. Still, if your blackheads are too deep into the skin, it's best to extract them occasionally.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Hi, thank you for your response :) I use Cerave foaming cleanser, effaclar duo (+) cream, anthelious invisible fluid suncream and %10 AHA 2% BHA exfoliating facial peeling. But, I am undecided whether to buy effaclar duo serum or not. Should I continue with exfoliating red peeling for blackheads?
@@busracelik9200 How's your current skincare routine working for you? Do you enjoy the Peeling Solution? Yes, Niacinamide is a great brightening serum. If you enjoy the Peeling Solution, there is no need to buy the Effaclar Serum. Just go with a Niacinamide Serum.
Hi Melissa 👋 Please guide me Can I use hyaluronic acid niacinamide and alpha arbutin together with cerave resurfacing retinol at nite routine Please reply And guide me which product I applied first
You can use them together, but I think it is a very potent combination. Therefore, I suggest using hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and alpha arbutin when not using CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol.
Thanks so much Melissa! I will start off 2-3x a week! Is the serum basically like an exfoliater then? I know my skin well and usually only use exfoliation once a week but do want to get the best use of this serum so please let me know what you think is best! Thanks

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet yeah so actually my skin did get brighter and all but i noticed little breakouts . I thought it might be because i lacked serum in my routine or like you mentioned in the vid the frequency of using the products ( i have been using it daily)
@@hodamer99 That's good to hear! Well, you can try using it less often-either once per day or every other day. Alternatively, you could skip using your moisturizer in the evening.
I think using these products may irritate the skin over time. So, I suggest using them at alternate times or even days to minimize sensitivity or irritation that may occur due to over-exfoliation.
I'm sorry if I asked too much before, because i already went to all esthetician in my city but everything they recommended did not work on improving my skin 😭 i think tretinoin is the only thing that improves my skin so far, but lately my skin doesn't feel much improvement unlike before. Now i feel like tret dries/dehydrates my skin a little bit making my pores more noticeable and more tiny bumps appearing (I don't think it's because of the weather like you said before) 😔😔 thanks again Doc 🙏😄
Well, it is also possible that your skin has become tolerant to the effects of tretinoin, and you may need to adjust your skincare routine or switch to a different treatment to see continued improvement. One option is to decrease the frequency of tretinoin use and/or switch to a lower concentration. This may reduce the dryness and dehydration that you're experiencing. Another option is to incorporate additional skincare products that can help improve the overall appearance and texture of your skin, such as the hydrating serum or toner you mentioned. To use these products effectively, start by cleaning your face, patting it dry, and applying toner. Wait for the toner to fully absorb and give it a few minutes before applying tretinoin. Then, wait for 10-15 minutes before applying moisturizer. Still, if you continue to experience persistent dryness, dehydration, or other skin concerns, it may be helpful to consult with a dermatologist.
Hi👋 I have been using Paula's choice bha for a long time and have not benefited me a bit. I have seen so many reels about how good this product it. I really want it to work. Can you tell me what I might be doing wrong? I have oily acne-prone skin and I use the product in my routine with niacinamide.
Hello again, The reels are mostly sponsored content, as it is a bestseller, which means that a lot of money flows into it. Therefore, many people showcase it, but the results are often not accurate and do not represent the actual outcome. What other products are you using, and how do you apply them? Also, what do you mean by "for a long time"?
Hmm, okay. Have you ever considered using a retinoid like Adapalene? Here's a simple routine you could try: PM: Clean your face with a gentle cleanser, like CeraVe Foaming Cleanser. Wait 5 minutes. Apply Adapalene gel or cream. AM: Clean your face (you could use the CeraVe Acne Control Cleanser every other day, but don't overdo it as Adapalene can be pretty drying). Apply a hydrating sunscreen that suits your skin type and needs.
I just watched your video before this and saw a comment about using hydrating toner while using tretinoin to help dehydrated skin. Can toner really helps/needed to help hydrate the skin??
Yes, of course, that can work. However, it's best to apply tretinoin to dry skin, especially in the beginning, as it absorbs slower into the skin that way. Additionally, I recommend to use hydrating products when not using tretinoin, such as during the day.
@@michikochua9463 It would be more like this: clean face, pat dry, apply toner, wait for the toner to fully absorb and give it a few minutes, apply tretinoin, wait 10-15 minutes, apply moisturizer.
Hey! :) See here: th-cam.com/video/zq9w8rd8rd8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mO9UqLba3mgGiAdX Alternatively, you can use a Salicylic Acid-based Cleanser instead of a Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser. Still, to get your acne under control, you need to determine its root cause. Is it genetic, due to excessive oil production, caused by using the wrong or overly rich skincare products, hormonal, related to hygiene, food intolerance, foods containing preservatives or antibiotics, lack of sleep, stress, etc.? While topical acne products can help to some extent, if the underlying cause is something else, you also need to address that!
Can i use both products with The Ordinary Glycolic Toner? Or toner is not necessary? I will try to have new routine as i am breaking out again. I wear heavy make daily due to my work. I have now Cerave SA smoothing cleanser, effaclar serum and effaclar duo + M. I need to put on Make up after my AM routine. Pls help
No, the Glycolic Acid toner is not needed as the Effaclar serum already contains AHA. Make sure to adjust the frequency and routine of each product to avoid irritations. Are you making sure that you're taking off your makeup properly?
I use bioderma cleansing oil to remove my make up then the cerave SA smoothing cleanser. Could u please help me with AM/PM routine with these products.. and if u have any additional recommendations. Please! 😭
@@sjmendoza09 From my experience, I prefer balm cleansers (such as Beauty of Joseon, Geek & Gorgeous, Good Molecules, or The Ordinary) over oil cleansers. Additionally, using reusable makeup removing pads or washcloths while washing the face helps a lot too! As for an example routine, I've shared it in the video. Breakouts can be caused by skincare/makeup products, but they can also be related to stress, diet, hormones like the menstrual cycle, etc.

The reels are mostly sponsored content, as it is a bestseller, which means that a lot of money flows into it. Therefore, many people showcase it, but the results are often not accurate and do not represent the actual outcome.
What other products are you using, and how do you apply them? Also, what do you mean by "for a long time"?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet products and order: cleanser+ bha+ niacinamide+moisturizer+SPF(in the morning)
It's been like 6-8 months.
@@tahreemhayath2006 That is a very long time. However, which cleanser, niacinamide serum, and moisturizer are you currently using?
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet cleanser - cerave acne control cleanser
Niacinamide- the ordinary
Moisturizer- the inkey list omega water cream.
Hmm, okay. Have you ever considered using a retinoid like Adapalene? Here's a simple routine you could try:
PM:
Clean your face with a gentle cleanser, like CeraVe Foaming Cleanser.
Wait 5 minutes.
Apply Adapalene gel or cream.
AM:
Clean your face (you could use the CeraVe Acne Control Cleanser every other day, but don't overdo it as Adapalene can be pretty drying).
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet is it okay if i use toner first, moisturizer (wait until absorb/dry) then I'll use tretinoin?? Thank you very much 🥰🥰✨
@@michikochua9463 It would be more like this: clean face, pat dry, apply toner, wait for the toner to fully absorb and give it a few minutes, apply tretinoin, wait 10-15 minutes, apply moisturizer.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet thank you very much for the suggestion 🙏🥰🥰
Im 16 years old and i have acne pls help me. What should i do?
Hey! :)

Alternatively, you can use a Salicylic Acid-based Cleanser instead of a Benzoyl Peroxide Cleanser.
Hi any suggestions for sensitive skin sunscreen???? Affordable one with no white cast.
I already told you that I don't know of any affordable versions without white cast, but I hope that someone else who is reading this can help you further.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet oh yeah then tell me the ones u know sensitive, combination skin. And dry skin.
@@akilarahmanchy9999. The ones I always show in my videos work well, and I like them. Therefore, I always recommend them.
How can I use in addition to the effeclar duo+ and effeclar ultraconcentrated serum, the cicaplast Baume B5 with these two?
Keep in mind, Cicaplast Baume is for dry to very dry, irritated skin, not for acne. Unless you use the Cicaplast Gel, which is suitable for oilier skin types. However, you can use these products and alternate them. The combination may seem odd unless you really have combination skin and apply the products to different areas of the face like so:

Hi,
I have been using this la roshy possy effeclator dua from 15 days and it cause my skin burn and all my face have red big patches now, please let me know what should i do 😭😭😭
Well, if that's the case, I recommend stop using it immediately and see a doctor if needed.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDietin the start 5 days it treats my skin good, and my pimples gone, but now it makes my skin bad than before. I already stop using this, but, is there something you can recommend me to remove that big red patched on my face 😢 it looks like i got injuries on face, i got punch from someone and face turns red 😢
What else are/were you using while using LRP Effaclar DUO+?
As I mentioned, if it is that bad, I recommend seeing a doctor.
hi melissa! currently i have hada labo for my toner, to niacinamide, to caffeine solution, to azelaic acid, and la roche posay effaclar duo.
i also use melano cc vitamin c and canmake sunscreen in the morning.
can u help me with my am/pm routine?
Hey! :)
Do not use your Vitamin C and Niacinamide product in the same routine. So, use one in the AM and the other one in the PM. I also recommend not using the Effaclar DUO and Azelaic Acid in the same routine as it may be too potent and does not layer well.
A routine could look like this:
AM:
- Cleanser
- Toner
- Vitamin C Essence
- Caffeine Solution
- Effaclar DUO
- Sunscreen
PM:
- Cleanser
- Toner
- Caffeine Solution
- Niacinamide
- Azelaic Acid
I still recommend watching the video below for better guidance:

Hi Melissa, thank you for this useful video. I was wondering if I can use Effaclar matt moisturizer on top of the Effaclar serum for evening routine?
Yes you can!

You're welcome!

Hi !! I have a question, i recently purchased the la roche posay cleanser the gel foam one for oily/combination skin and I want to start using the cosrx bha blackhead removing liquid, can I use them both? I only plan on using the bha blackhead removing liquid 2x a week but I’m unsure if the ingredients will not mix well. Thank you ^^
Do you have the Purifying Cleanser, the blue one, or the Micropeeling Gel Cleanser, the green one? If you have the blue one, you can use it alongside the COSRX BHA Blackhead Removing Liquid. Otherwise, it would be best to alternate between them.
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet I have the blue one !! Thank you so much ^^ I have one more question if that’s okay haha. I recently purchased the neutrogena hydro boost,, im not sure if it’s causing some skin irritation or not because my skin burns a bit after? I was considering buying the cosrx cream instead since I already have the essence. I’m so sorry for asking many questions haha I’m just a bit confused !!

Where do you get acne?
Do you know the cause of your acne? Like stress, hormones, food...
@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet always in the jawline and chin area and its big sometimes red acne
@@untayaoshelmarjoy5991 Have you ever been to a dermatologist?
It sounds like you're experiencing hormonal acne, which, if you can't balance your hormones, your acne will likely come back. As for your acne scars, they seem much deeper than just on the skin's surface. In that case, I recommend talking to a dermatologist.
